I have a bit of an interesting take away from this video. The Koko is my favorite sounding of the bunch, followed by the TC Electronic, and then the Boss, which I really dislike. I would agree with people online saying the Koko is a clone of the Phase 90. I know it has more controls, even more so than the Phase 100, but with all the knobs at noon, it sounds extremely similar to the Phase 90. It even has that little bit of a high end roll off that the MXR has. The downside to the Koko, other than the mislabeled knob, which I agree would be resonance, is just how out of control it gets. Seems like a subtle bump of a knob can get a little crazy pretty fast.
Although it sounds very similar to the TC, it sounded to me like the Blood Moon has a much larger filter sweep sound going on underneath that really throws the two into different realms. With the knobs past the noon position on the Blood moon, I think it starts to sound more like a subtle envelope filter more than a phaser. I just don't think the Blood moon handled clean tones quite as well as the Koko. The Boss is another story all together, never been a fan of that pedal.

The Kokko also sounds much better on Bass, I had recorded a section of it on bass but that bass on it’s own doesn’t sound great and I was looking to cut down the time on this vid.
I can see what you’re saying about how the BM handled clean tones, like if you don’t give it information in the frequency range it wants, in comparison to the Kokko and boss, it almost doesn’t do anything.
And oh boy, the PH3 is horrible for live stuff, that volume drop is bad enough but even after that it can be super finicky and inconsistent? In the studio I feel like I can get more interesting stuff out of it between the tap tempo and step sound, but as soon as I find something I like I’ll record it, then put the pedal back in it’s box rather than keep messing with it.
Maybe when I sell that PA or enough plasma I can just get the chase bliss one and get it over with.

Good stuff. The Kokko is a terrific phaser but I had no idea the Blood Moon was so similar.

around the 8:20 Mark you're getting vibrato tones out of the TC electronics! wow! never heard a phaser do that before.
did you notice that? beautiful tones. it doesn't sound like a phaser or a vibrato. just its own thing

Sorry for the delay in replying, I had to go listen.
It is a thick tone, for sure, even now while I dig the weirdness of the ph3 I keep the blood moon as the best “standard” phaser of the three. Like wise, a lot of pedals from that particular TC electronic line seem to fill in the “super solid tone” demo graphic

@@BGBSATX yea it's getting a very linear / vibrato like modulation on that setting. interesting. i might try to buy one

It reminds me of the DOD Vibrothang. 😀

I doubt it’s a clone of the blood moon, because the blood moon is most likely a clone itself. Boss PH-1r or Ibanez PT-909 would be my guess. The Kokko sounds like the Boss and the blood moon sounds more like the Ibanez to me. Pretty sure they are all 4 stage phasers, other than the PH-3, which is why they sound similar. The PH-3 is digital

Mix sounds like volume or gain. Just order one. Cause it's small. Don't like bigass pedals.

Well, if you like the phase 90/Phase 100 sound then there you go- certainly smaller than the phase 100... I for one love big pedals with a ton of knobs though, like to get into the grass with the controls

How does the TC do with high gain distortion?

Do you have a particular pedal in mind? I have a metal zone and a heavy metal 2 clone

@@BGBSATX I have a metal muff, the new one with the noise gate. A Revv G4, and one of those really cool Amptweakers. The Tight Metal with a side track. I really want a phaser, but I just don't know which one to get. I like the adjustment range of the cheap TC. But I read that it kinda has a pop, and messes with the volume when you use it. The 90 and 95 don't really appeal to me much, but everyone says they are the best.

@@9hk38f I don’t have a 90 or 95 proper (though the consensus seems to be that Kokko has cloned it) but the TC doesn’t add lower frequencies like the other pedals did.
I would assume with more metal-y pedals you’d want more high end which TC would be more more friendly to, but I think the boss would be better.
I’ll do a couple tests with them tomorrow against my heavy metal clone tomorrow
