Wish | Booth to Screen - "This Is The Thanks I Get?!"

- Опубліковано 23 жов 2023
- Here’s your first listen to "This Is The Thanks I Get?!" performed by Chris Pine as King Magnifico! 👑 See Disney's #Wish only in theaters November 22.
Following in the footsteps of classic villain songs like “Poor Unfortunate Souls” (1989’s “Little Mermaid”), “Be Prepared” (1994’s “The Lion King”) and “Mother Knows Best” (2010’s “Tangled”), Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney Music Group today released “This Is The Thanks I Get?!,” performed by Chris Pine as the nefarious King Magnifico, from Disney’s upcoming musical comedy, “Wish.” The song is the second of five songs being revealed as part of a weekly “Wish Wednesdays” music campaign ahead of the film’s launch only in U.S. theaters on November 22.
Grammy®-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy®-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice penned seven original songs for the film, including “This Is The Thanks I Get?!”-now available on SiriusXM’s Disney Hits Channel 302, UA-cam, Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music and all digital service providers.
In the movie, people come from all around the world to give their wishes to Magnifico, a charming and confident king who promises to grant their deepest desires-someday. But the King isn’t entirely altruistic; he alone decides whose wish will be granted, and he relishes the control. “He’s charismatic; he’s handsome-and he knows it-but I think he truly believes their wishes are safest in his hands,” said screenwriter/executive producer Jennifer Lee, who’s chief creative officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios. “So when Asha exposes the flaw in his philosophy, he feels underappreciated and threatened.”
Cue “This Is The Thanks I Get?!” “We just had a blast with it,” said director Chris Buck. “The visuals are terrific-he’s the king and he feels like nobody respects him. It’s been a while since we’ve had a good villain song, so Julia and Ben just went for it.”
Director Fawn Veerasunthorn said “This Is The Thanks I Get?!” is a good example of how a song can help shape the character. “We’d provide a rough version of the script [to Julia and Ben] and they’d go away for a while and come back with a song. Their songs inspired us. For ‘This Is The Thanks I Get?!’ we knew we wanted Magnifico to be charming and, of course, evil. He’s also funny! In the song, he cracks jokes-he’s narcissistic. But it’s all tongue-in-cheek and he’s still somehow completely likable, which is great for a villain.” - Фільми й анімація
Not gonna lie I know this guy is Pure Evil villain but I must admit he is handsome but in the Silver Fox kind of way, like Old but Good looking
I agree
@lorenzopaschoalpossatti6192 yeah I didn't watch full Guardian of the Galaxy 3 yet but after Thor Love and Thunder I kind of temporarily stop watching MCU. Just temporary. I will resume watching. I prefer She-Hulk over Thor Love and Thunder any day.
That's because Chris Pine voices King Magnifico. Hopefully, that would gladly explain why Magnifico is gorgeous in body and voice despite being evil.
chris pine is so fine even in animated form
I agree with you on that, mon ami!
So Chris Pine can pull off both Sondheim and pop-style songs? How is this man not on Broadway already?
Exactly why he is not on Broadway???
One could argue that he prefers being on screen, as opposed to being on stage, but I’m sure there’s a theater bug out there that hasn’t bitten him yet.
@@Bitsy83 You are correct there is a bug inside him espcially when he started in theater
No one remembers him singing in Into the Woods?😂
@@har5814the movie.
Probably the most cheerful and upbeat villain song I ever heard and I mean that in the best way possible!
Honestly it’s kinda refreshing to have a villain song that isn’t all dark and gothic.
It’s kind of like Mother Knows Best in the sense where it doesn’t feel very dark and intense but upbeat and comfy.
@@uwishuknewwhoiwas27 Then later on, it gets a darker and more sinister reprise.
Agreed! This slaps. It’s pretty much the 2020s version of the Gaston song
Love is an open door?
@@thefirstone4864 I’m not sure that’s a villain song, more like a false romance song.
I’ve seen people say the villain song is a bit meh. But honestly I think it’s catchy and kind of fits the character. He sounds like he’s trying his best to sound happy and willing to help, but a bit of his frustration slips through the cracks and he quickly lets out that frustration when he’s alone. It’s a nice detail.
I think a lot of people expected him to be a Frollo-esque figure and it looks like we're getting a Gaston instead. We haven't had a childish villain in a long time- I'm looking forward to it!
@@americaroleplayer so it’s not just me getting Gaston vibes. That’s good.
@@americaroleplayer I had a feeling he would be more Gaston-esque when I saw the first images of him a while ago, considering how good looking he is. I've seen some more images of Magnifico lately where he does get darker/creepier also.
This song is so goofy, I died at first listen. Still reeling from his performance as another singing buffoon (i.e. Edgin) and this is the surprise I get 😂😂😂
He doesn’t see himself as a villain that’s why
OOOOH, just by this little sneak peek I'm already liking this villain song .He seems to be like a comedic yet maniacal evil villain we are all gonna love. Chris Pines seems to be having a blast singing his character tbh
Well no, good guess tho
@@themug406uh he kinda was yea? But what is your view on it? I watched it yesterday for the 4th time and yea I think the op is right
I don’t mean to be rude but what in the hell is wrong with you? This sounds awful and doesn’t sound like a villain nor a villain’s song, the lyrics make absolutely no sense and isn’t he supposed to be mad in this song? So why’s everything so upbeat?? He’s the villain not the hero!!!
I don’t mean to be rude but what in the hell is wrong with you?? His voice isn’t fit for a villain, this song doesn’t sound villain like at all, the lyrics make absolutely no sense, they use words like ‘rent’ and ‘vent’. This isn’t like a modern world? Isn’t this like set in a similar time as Rapunzel? And isn’t he like supposed to be mad in this song? So why does everything sound so upbeat! He sounds more like a vain side character not a villain!!
@@ThatGirlThatLikesMuffinsLiterally everybody hates this movie and especially this character and this song. People are also saying that the sounds seem like they’ve been written by AI.
This is NOT what I was expecting from a villain song but I love it
I mean i expected sth more dramatic and evil
he is not evil@@MinisterChicken he is completely crazy, power hungry, narcissistic and psychotic 😂😆
Well, it does explain what made him into a power-hungry psychopath.
I have a feeling during the end it'll be one more fast paced and aggressive- showcasing King Magnificos descent into madness 🤷♀️
Since this is only a snippet
maybe it’s the other way aroun, the main character (the girl with braids) might be the villain
Chris Pine is a really good singer.
Yeah don’t forget he played Prince, charming in the Disney, live action film into the woods!!
@@calebcarver5082 I already knew that.
@@disneyrules7808He also played Jack Frost.
I like him.
@@Palpmiono5463-oe8ok Same here.
Okay I love this. So much fun to have a villain that’s so gleefully comedic while still being totally conceited and evil, makes him that much more unhinged in a delightful way. I’m so looking forward to this movie.
Honestly, the last time I remember a villain so gleeful in a fantasy-type movie, was probably the bad guy in ELLA ENCHANTED.
@@MorriganWarrioress Omg I LOVED the villain in Ella Enchanted! He was hysterical! Give us more gleeful fantasy villains!
I was trying to express to my bf how excited I am about this movie because of this song and this villian and I wanted him to see this clip. Then I saw your comment and read it to him because it expresses exactly what I was trying to convey to him about how I feel.
After 13 years, we finally have a villain song
Shiny?
@@rock_pie_mlp. Doesn’t technically count, since Tamatoa’s more an obstacle than a villain. Te Ka’s the main villain in Moana, but there hasn’t been a legitimate villain song since “Mother Knows Best” in Tangled.
@@EmperorScrat that’s a very long gap.
Disenchanted also has a villain song
@rock_pie_mlp I think you mean 13 years, because there was "Mother Knows Best" from Tangled.
Happy 100th anniversary Disney 🎉
Yep
Yes and l love disney!
Yes I love Disney is the best
Me too y’all
I never understood why people hate this song I think a perfect Disney villain song
I know right!
Honestly its very catchy, the lyrics and the little “duududududu” in the background is just so funny to me. “I let you live here for free and I don’t even charge you rent” Thats basically just saying the same thing twice lol. Not a big fan of pop songs in Disney, its well done in other movies but in this one its just FUNNY, I wasn’t exactly scared of the “Villain” like how its usually supposed to be! >w<
so yeah its dogshit and yall are npcs! probably got the shittiest music taste 😂😂
cause everyone is so condescending and nitpicky
So do I!
@@aidanbarnes4290Someone being critical of a huge franchise is not them being condescending. You can like the song. They can hate it. Everyone should think what they want.
Chris Pine as the villain of the movie is magnificent, he has a great song whether it's English or dubbed and it sounds incredible, plus this "villain" is really good, he had no evil, it's just that the protagonist made him go down that path 💙😢
exactly
Slave mentality
The villain suffered from vanity since the start of the film.
He wasn't even evil lmao
@@r-yv5uz. Yes
Asha is the villian
King Magnifico 😘 Chris Pine will a great job with him, i'm sure!! I want to hear him sing!!
If I don't make a good job on the voices actors, I will have to invite the real voices actors to voice the characters
@lorenzopaschoalpossatti6192 my favorite song of 2023 are steal the show (elemental) and part of your world (the little mermaid).

“When You WISH Upon A Star Your DREAMS COME TRUUUEE!!”
- Disney’s OFFICIAL National Anthem
Yep morning star. Cuz God don't grant everything you want what a film.
Dang, that sounded like a banger. I haven't heard a good villian song since maybe Mother Gothel's "Mother Knows Best", but that is definitely on par with it. Manipulative, self-serving and a subtle hint of the villiany. I can't wait until it's out to download.
This better be a success!
Já s vámi úplně souhlasím.
I wish this movie is better be successful up to fresh 98%
This song perfectly captures how King Magnifico is falling from grace and having a breakdown that turns him into a villain rather than there being another twisted villainous force out there.
EDIT: Thanks for all 100 likes.
i know right so amazing i hope the movie is good
Can we just appreciate how well the teamed up Chris Pine and Magnifico? He looks so alike to Magnifico. If Disney did a live-action Wish, he would fit it so well, and the face is so similar. This is the best Disney/Actor team up. Good job, Disney.
This movie is pretty
When people think of a Disney villain song, they think it's suppose to be dark, brooding, and foreboding. For Magnifico's case, it's in character with him; greedy, self-serving, comically egotistic. You could see how stressed he gets when the facade vanishes.
I’m so glad to live long enough to see Chris Pine sing
I think the choice of making the song itself upbeat even though it's the villain song is actually great, because it fits with the whole fake-nice persona he puts on for the rest of the kingdom. But then, the lyrics are really bitter. It actually suits both sides of him really well!
Yo! An actual Villain Song 🤩 Now I’m even more excited
This song is easily in my Top 5 Disney Villain songs. Thank you Chris Pine and Disney!
I am STOKED hearing Chris Pine get to go off like this 🙌
This is catchy asf 🙌🏼 instant banger
Well. That's going to be stuck in my head all day.
I Know He's The Villian Of This Story But, How Cool Is This Song 😅💚
Villain songs tend to be the best songs.
Crazy development for this antagonist. He started off truly benevolent, wanting to bring peace and prosperity to the kingdom he made after suffering such losses in life, but his success went to his head. Truly, he didn't mean for this to happen, but he deluded himself into thinking he was still a man of the people when really, it became all about maintaining his own status quo and was terrified of losing it. He was even willing to listen to his wife's council until his paranoia finally caught up with him. The fact is, it was more the book then Magnifico being evil.
I'm digging it! He strikes me as being like an older, wiser Gaston trying hard to come off as a noble, benevolent ruler but whose underlying ego and narcissism is revealed when push comes to shove.
This is catchy! I also like how it contrasts with Asha’s song since she sings about wanting to helping her kingdom, but the king’s song is all about what he wants-an interesting contrast in the “I Want” songs of Disney Princesses! I hope we get a full release soon!
Full version is up on UA-cam right now
King Magnífico and Chris Pine are so accurate jiji❤
They both look exactly the same even physically!!
Bro I can NOT stop listening to this! I’ve watched it like 5 times already
FINALLY! There hasn’t been a good villain song in ages! Hopefully this means they’re stopping with the twist villains for a while
And that's the way I like it.
Chris Pine actually kinda resembles the character he’s voicing a little bit. He even has the facial hair!
The film isn’t even out yet and this is already my favorite song in the film and that’s just a little bit of the song
Finally a 100% Disney Villain song… after who know. No twist villain or misunderstood character… so far I love the song and can relate
@@lenirasusana5693 like is catchy and is actually a villain song
this song is cringe it ain't even villain but Chris did well on his character
Happy anniversary Disney. Wow he's amazing, he's got so much talent. I've watched his movies. He's so good looking.
Finally, a genuine villain song, from a non twist villain!
This is going to be the best Disney villain song EVER!!! It's so CATCHY!!!
Ok, This is a banging villain song
Man, the songwriters went hardcore on this villain song!!! 💯
I love Chris Pine!
Chris is PERFECT n finally Disney is on the right path with their magical 2D animation
He is the only character that captured me from the start... He is soooo freakin handsom-ly designed
Admit it, he's incredibly handsome
The villain King is so gorgeous
This singer really looks like his character. Thats very cool! :D
Exactly Chirs Pine is exactly as his character
I think they specifically had Chris Pine in mind for this role (kind of like how Robin Williams was specifically chosen for the Genie) since Magnifico looks exactly like an animated Chris Pine.
@@Marujita71 Wait, this is Chris Pine???
You mean this guy from The Princess Diaries, Into the Woods, Star Trek, etc? He is THIS old?! 😲
We havent had a villain song since Tangled and GOD this sounds so good already
I thought Moana had a decent villain song even if Tamatoa wasn’t the main bad guy.
@@caseysaisi3417true. He was technically a bad guy.
Some say that “Love is an Open Door” is a secret villain song.
@@narendramartosudarmo6112 I mainly meant a villain song sung by the main villain clearly stating their evil desires and wishes. Love is an Open Door is above anything a romantic duet since at that point in the film it isnt revealed Hans is the villain.
I really liked the songs. Though they sound so modern
Omg 😱 He Sings So Phenomenal As King Magnifico And his vocals are on point I’m so excited 😆 for this movie Wish And I Love 💗 It WOW 😮Also Happy Anniversary 100th Disney Wooo 🥳!
I mean, it’s Chris Pine. We all know it’s going to be awesome.
Got to admit, the art style is growing on me. It's similar to Puss in Boots 2, they gave the characters and backgrounds a more storybook look.
I think this is the first sign of Disney noticing how Spiderverse revolutionized animation, which is good cuz if they utilize well it could be a game changer for their future animation features
@@madtitan0825At this point, Wish might be Across the Spider-Verse’s new competition
@@raymondmaciel4047 I doubt that, Across the Spiderverse is gonna be the king of animation movie for decades, it is just unbeatable, maybe until Beyond the Spiderverse
@@madtitan0825 I know but I’m willing to give Wish a chance, besides “this is thanks I get” is really catchy
They did him injustice, he deserved so much better. The fact people actually liked the antagonist instead of the protagonist says it all
The classic Disney villain song is back!!!!!!!!!!
Wow… this is an absolute BANGER! I haven’t heard a Disney villain song like this in years! I can’t wait to see the film! 😁🎞
Chris is such an underrated singer! His voice deserves more recognition & attention.
Chris Pine as King Magnifico song sound really good 😍

Now that's a HOT silver fox of a Disney villain! Jonathan Young, please cover this!
This song is out now.. and I love it..
"This Is The Thanks I Get" perform by Chris Pine..
Magnifico is obsessed with himself, he doesn’t see himself as evil, OF COURSE he wouldn’t have an over the top evil song. This song represents a big almost mental breakdown for this character, because he NEVER saw himself as evil. So he didn’t need a song that screams I’m evil.
>Gives literally anything, asking only to be respectful to him
>Evil
I love it. It's definitely not your typical Disney song, he's so Sauvé and handsome so the song fits perfectly. But this is also just 50 seconds of the song. It's obviously going to turn more villainy in the later half as he makes his way up his tower, but the trailer shots here in the trailer do a good job at hiding it. Also this isn't his only song, according to the soundtrack he's going to have a duet with Ariana DeBose which is sure to be a way more dramatic song
Maybe the other song will be something like Wonderful from Wicked. Where it was the Wizard of Oz and Elphaba
I see in this piece a person who gives everything that is asked for, as far as possible, but everything is not enough for people. And no gratitude. And in the chorus there is already a hysterical “And this is the thanks i get?!” It's basically like Maui if it took a different path. Both heroes give what they need and what they ask for, but take it for granted. I really hope for competent development of the antagonist, and not just “evil, because all my desires”
When he kicks the knight, I lost it! 😂😂
Thinking how catchy this song is
Kowalski: Why do the bad guys always get the good stuff
Ladies and gentlemen! After all these years, finally, we have a song just for a villain.
