Why USMLE and Residency 🏥 in the USA? This video 🎥 will discuss Resident Salary 💰, Education 🏫, Lifestyle, and Work hours in the US and will answer all your questions if you are not sure whether residency in the US is the right option for you after medical school!
About 40 hours work per week, here no one counts for the hours, are just logistics on paper. When a resident, I worked only 5 official days- but 4 to 6 times a month we were “lucky” enough to be unpaid on-call (this meaning we would work for 34-36 in-hospital hours). And I would be naive to say after bring board certified this crazy hours stopped (even the professor in my clinic has more than 24h shifts). After finishing my residency I had 3 yrs equivalent holiday days to take (my residency =5yrs). In medicine, in my country almost nobody has all those 20 holiday days for good 😅
How does American patients treat doctors from abroad? Is there a lack of trust ? Right now i feel inclined to do residency in my home country and a Fellowship in usa.
If I understood it correctly, you get 55k yearly salary and you work as long as the Program need till 80h/week, that means there are no baseline like 8am to 5pm, there is just this 80h border that the Program cannot exceed. Im not sure if you will understand me. In my country there is 40h/week max, which means every hour after that must be paid separately, but in the US as I understand, they give you 55k and can make you work any hours long but till 80/week.
@@MalkeAsaad sir ..I'm little bit confused . Can you make a podcast with Indian IMG who is currently working in USA , and ask him what's his/her reason to leave India and go for USA ?? Cause India has a large number of audience and everyone wants to know these points
Dr. Malke, i was trying to apply for electives where step 1 status is not required. But all institutions like mount sinai, kansas a d harvard were saying that they will accept only LCME accredited schools and schools which are part of VSLO. IMGs will not be allowed for year 2022 to 2023. Is this realy still valid
It varies. It includes it in the beginning but as you advance, you take home call which means you take a full night call, you work the next day (normally), and only hours that you got woken up or came to the hospital counts towards your 80 hours.
Haha… you say something about annual exam. Bro, come in my clinic, weekly quizzes (sometimes very spontaneously random), JCs, presentations (like Sparta)- no one cares you just finished being on call and have 8 more hours to stay in the hospital. The feedback: is always public, and all the clinic will know how dumb I was in a test (not normalizing this). All my 5 training yrs (in Europe we have different training organization- all IM residencies have 5 yrs, except cards). My board certification -17 mini exams in 3 days, both practical and theoretical. After every day I felt I survived another day in Squid game. 🎭 My point is competition mainly resides in yourself in most of the training programes in Europe
I graduated in 2017, I postponed many times the step 1, and now I feel it's too late. Someone who has many years from the graduation to application can match in a good program?. I want to do neurology.
The older your year of graduation is, the harder it gets, but it is not impossible. To discuss more, check our one-on-one Residency advising 👨🏼💼service: bit.ly/3yzDmGk
Can you make a video about what will happen to an FMG after he/she finish residency in the USA? Will he have to go back to his country for 2 years? How likely is it to bypass this? Thank you

Nice video doctor. Thank u!!
Amazing video! Thank you Dr. Malke so much!
Did you suffer from being away from direct patient interaction when you took a couple of years of research between medical school and residency?
You can do observerships during your years of research.
Can you make a similar video on attending lifestyle?
Thank you doctor for the useful informations

You don't get paid more here if you work more. The salary is fixed. However, if you moonlight, you get paid per shift.
@@MalkeAsaad that's very sad . Residents are paid very very less in USA. How much can one earn from moonlighting??
@@PranayBrajabashi Around 800-1000 a shift.

It is getting harder and harder.
These 80 hours include breaks ? How long are the breaks ?
And is it doable? To make my food ,do laundry, work out and then do 80 hours in hospital?
Does 80 hr/week include night shifts too? Do you work the day after a night shift?
It varies. It includes it in the beginning but as you advance, you take home call which means you take a full night call, you work the next day (normally), and only hours that you got woken up or came to the hospital counts towards your 80 hours.
Hello, do you think the online courses from researchers academy is worth and can it be used on our cv .
