  • The Gentrification Project examines Griffintown, an historic community along the Lachine Canal, next door to Old Montreal. Business and property owner, Harvey Lev, thinks the city and developers in Griffintown have no plan to develop the area responsibly. Lev says the high-rises are only being built to serve young, urban, professionals, because of Griffintown's proximity to downtown. He,
and a small group of residents, have taken it upon themselves to inform Montrealers as to Griffintown's unique cultural heritage.

The real problem is ...lack of engagement by the community. Most people have this mindset that it's someone else's problem to be dealt with.

I grew up in Pointe Saint Charles. The area, The Ponit, Griffintown and Goose Village, (when it existed), were vibrant communities with a heart. Now they're just non existent.
