I cannot think of a thing St. Saens wrote that I don't enjoy. What a master!
My grandmother used to say: 'Want to fill the concert hall? Schedule Saint-Saëns.'"
It's stunning how much better this orchestral version is to the rather uninteresting chamber version.
The woodwind parts are of course great in both versions, but the orchestration really makes a world of difference.

The static banality of the piano writing is completely transformed into fun and nimble orchestration. The woodwind parts are of course excellent in both versions.
I almost think that this orchestration is the original version rather than the piano one.

Funny. But I'm sure you notice she's a flautist and there are also no visible clarinetists. The soloists must be the principals of the orchestra and don't need doubling of their parts.
