You are my number one UA-cam subscription now and I will be looking for the next Video soon! I just can't thank you enough you are amazing!
This was the way our Beautiful Mom always woke us up in the cold mornings so we could go to school. All 4 of us would jump put of bed to be the first to get a big bowl. Mom would always use at least a quart to 1/2 gallon of oysters. How I miss her so much. Mmmuuuaaahhh to my Mom and Dad for providing the oysters..
This is exactly how my mama used to make it before she passed! As I recall she also used this base for salmon stew and it came out great each time! Thanks for the bit of nostalgia, Ma'am!
Brilliant! Best recipe I found on youtube........My Mom made delicious oyster stew using your same ingredients I believe. This was wonderful....the cutting of the oysters made for Oysters in every spoonful just like you said! Plus the blending of the Liquor and the tough part of the oyster gave an additional flavor boost. Absolutely delicious! I'm eating a bowlful the next day and it's even better then fresh. Thank you
Just finished some Oyster Stew I made. The Oysters I picked. The recipe is similar to your recipe, but I added some potatoes. I had crabs in my Oysters also. Thanks and take care.
Juliann Akers I encourage you to make it too! I can’t wait for October and cooler weather to arrive. That means oysters will be available again in my corner of the world!
yummy I love making oyster stew in the winter its so good...I buy the oysters in the can and I do add the juice I also add very fine onions that I cook for a couple of mins so good.
This is how my mom made hers.I rince off my oysters off and drain the oysters.I dont like the strong taste. But my mom and dad did.Thank u for the video.
Evaporated milk gives it a rich flavor similar to using half and half or heavy cream. My Mom always had several cans in her pantry and there was a big difference in the price. I want mine to taste just like my Mom’s.
Great video! My mom taught me to briefly boil the oysters in the liquor before adding to the kettle with the butter + milk. Wondering if that has been a mistake all these years?
One of my friends that grew up in Key West he told me about a recipe that’s super simple, but it uses only evaporated milk, and then he grates one carrot along with some butter and black pepper, and of course the oysters! Super simple and the carrot offsets the saltiness from the Brian and then if you want more salt I guess you could have it, but it is so easy and delicious!
Blake Turner thank you for the prayers. We weathered the storm and didn’t even lose power . We have a tree down in our yard, but it didn’t hit the house. We’ve been helping at a shelter this week. Hope you are safe too.
PERFECT ! This is the ONLY way a Southern gal makes Oyster Stew ! ( 8th generation Atlantan ). Only change I would make is to put the oysters into the melted butter and let the edges curl first.
Thank you, Phyllis. This is the way my mother made oyster stew back in the 1960s when I was growing up. So good.

rebecca robinson Hope you will get to enjoy some just the way you like it soon!
Can you use regular milk and heavy whipping cream instead of evaporated milk
What does the evaporated milk do for the dish?
Evaporated milk gives it a rich flavor similar to using half and half or heavy cream. My Mom always had several cans in her pantry and there was a big difference in the price. I want mine to taste just like my Mom’s.
Can I come over to visit? LOL. I am going to try to make a 1/2 batch (just enough for two)
Ken Strain hope your half batch turned out perfect! BTW, I wish I could meet everyone that loves my food! That would be so much fun!🦪🥄🥣
Great video! My mom taught me to briefly boil the oysters in the liquor before adding to the kettle with the butter + milk. Wondering if that has been a mistake all these years?
My wife always fried the oysters in butter, I never used evaporated milk. Or cut them up ,I like oyster Crackers in mine.

My mouths ah watering
Thank You.
ronald fousek thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!😋
I hope you and your family make it through safely with the hurricane! Please be safe! In our prayers. :(
Blake Turner thank you for the prayers. We weathered the storm and didn’t even lose power . We have a tree down in our yard, but it didn’t hit the house. We’ve been helping at a shelter this week. Hope you are safe too.
I’m in Houston, TX, so I know how scary that can be. Glad you all made it safely through.
Yum 😋
Where is the white chopped onion and celery that you saute in the butter before adding all the other ingredients.
I make mine the same as you except i rinse my oysters and dont use the juice, because its to strong for me.Thank you for shareing.
I think my mama
used a little sifted flour
to make it a little thicker
happy pappy I'm sure the flour makes it nice and thick!
In Louisiana we use roux.
It would be helpful to have a list of ingredients displayed. Otherwise well done.
Thanks for the kind comments! The list of ingredients is onscreen starting about 1 minute in.
Dayum I'm hungry
Jim Arnold time to make some oyster stew now! I just bought my first oysters for this year!
PERFECT ! This is the ONLY way a Southern gal makes Oyster Stew ! ( 8th generation Atlantan ). Only change I would make is to put the oysters into the melted butter and let the edges curl first.
🎉اعملي لفات صغيرة من الملح الخشن واخرة من حبة البركة في اركان البيت ووعاء ماء بملح تحت سرير المسحور موضع نومه🎉🕋🎀😅
Wheris the potato
😎
We do it without evaporated milk, and this is making me mad, because I can’t have none right now but I will be trying this way.
Hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!
where did you go? I really like you!
You may like to use a high quality sea salt and not the Morton salt, save that to clean yer cast iron pans.
Not saltine crackers. Gotta be oyster crackers!!!😊
Finding out that jug milk is the leading cause of heart disease. Grocery store junk milk is what it is refered as.
Don’t take the crabs out!
I would add an onion.
Monty Farnsworth feel free to add to it the way you like.
That was seriously way more then 3 cups of milk.
Buck Shot it was 3 cups of milk plus a can of evaporated milk.
NO carrots?,,potatoes?..onions? That equals NO GOOD
