Although there are crores of trees on this earth some of them are alive for thousands of years and some are miraculous. There are some trees which were planted by some important person thousands of years ago or that person had meditated or performed Samadhi sitting under that tree.
Located inside the Allahabad Fort complex in the Patalpuri temple Akshay Vat or Akshayvat is an ancient fig tree. After 2011 darshan of this tree can be done only after taking permission from the Commandant of the Ordnance Depot of Allahabad Fort. Only on one day during the Kumbh Mela festival this holy place is open for public darshan.
The story behind this holy and immortal tree is woven into Hindu mythology. It is believed that when Sage Markandeya asked Lord Narayana to present his divine power he submerged the entire earth for a brief moment. Only the Akshayvat tree survived when the flood receded. Thus it is considered to be the immortal and
