The 1st time I ever heard this waiata was last yr 2022 when my mokos sung it @there local school kapa haka it hit me hard & bought me to tears I know it resonated with me because it made me cry. I knew from this moment my decision to return home after being away for so long was the right decision for me. I returned home end of 2019 after 20+ yrs away. I tear up & struggle to sing it when I try to join in with my mokos during practise times a beautiful waiata indeed💖
I got taught this song in intermediate and know i'm in collage singing this song on matariki, who else was the same thing if you do like this and also love this song it brings back memories.
Kia ora Rahera Davies. He waiata ataahua. Kei te ako taku kura katoa mo teenei tau. It's important for our tamariki to learn through waiata because 1-they are musical, and rhythms and tunes carry the kupu that they are learning about and 2 - Expressing our appreciation, acknowledgement and emotion is natural when we understand what we are singing about. My year 7 & 8 tamariki listen to this during art time. Next week they'll know it and teach it to our kura.
Kia ora Rahera and thank you so much for this beautiful waiata. I have taught it to our senior children at Gorge Road School and the rest of the school will be learning it also. Waiata are hugely important as a way of linking to the past, connecting with ideas, uniting people and possibly the best way to bring Pākehā into a realisation of how rich the Māori world is. Ngā mihi. Sheree
Tēnā koe Rahera, ka rere atu ki ngā mihi nunui rawa ki a koe. Tino rawe ki ōku taringa ki te whakarongo me ngā kupu. Today I let the children at kura watch the waiata. Ko te mea e rua miniti te roanga a tēnei waiata. Lovely simple to teach. Everyday I sing to the tamariki while they are doing their mahi. I tell them about the waiata in a story and let them act the waiata or do mahitoi and then sing. Miharo miharo. Learning Māori stories is so important to remember events and ingoa and learning through waiata allows the children to combine listening, writing, singing, movement and voice control together. I hope this helps. My moko showed us your video. I kuraina ai ia i tō kura kaupapa i tērā tau i Nelson. Kei te kura kaupapa o Te Wairoa ia naianei.
Kia ora Rahera, We have learnt this waiata at our Kura, Kaikohe East School. I believe that learning about Kaupapa through waiata is very important and an easy and engaging way to strengthen understanding with very little effort.
Kia Ora Rahera, Thank you very much for your lovely waiata, which goes with our Play of The Mataariki Story, we are students in our Second Year of Bacheor of Education, studying at Te Whare Wananga O Awanuiarangi in Tamaki. We would like to use your song in our Play, that is for our Aromatawai AHO 202 Paper, Our group consists of 4 People, and will be performing in front of our class with our lecturer on the 5th July at our noho and this will be judged. We have chosen this song, as to teach our class and Tamariki within our Practicum and as a Teacher. Much appreciated Marion, Lovinia, Shaunni, Chevelle.
Kia Ora! Thank you for letting the world learn this waiata. We will teach in school this week as a part of our Matariki celebrations and will definitely identify you as the composer x
