  • Hello and welcome to this series which will look into various elements of Kingdom Death: Monster with a focus on both strong "meta" strategies and also how to make more goofy and fun options work, because it's not a board game if you are not having fun!
    In this video we will be looking at the gear that comes when you take down that lonely ruler of the long lost Silver City.

    With Earthquake I feel like there should've been a flow after "full move the Lion God Towards the Target". Similar to some of the Phoenix's ai cards.

    Great review!
    Regarding the layout of 43:25 - if you move lion god statue and white lion helm one up, ancient lion claws one to the right and white lion skirt on the free 8 position - then you are only loosing one red affinity (4 instead of 5) and therefor one strength, but you can now activate the helmet. so layout would be: 1 - gauntlets, 2 boots, 3 statue, 4 longclaw, 5 golden plate, 6 helmet, 7 coat, 8 skirt, 9 lion claws).
    but I agree with what you´re mentioned afterwards, the ancient lion claws should just replace the white lion gauntlets (and get the armor keyword?).
    And then maybe an additonal "ancient lion armor set" card, which gives u pounce and some additional armor points.
    About the golden plate i am then unsure if it should replace the coat - or be more open as currently. Who knows, maybe we can make some fur-titan-bee-armor set, which the golden plate will buff further.

    Butchers blood becomes an incredibly amazing, if not broken item, with killenium butchers new Cleaver Proficiency. The mastery allows one to discard five Hit Locations to cancel the trap and put it back shuffled into the deck. Really high insanity survivors will be able to practically have the opportunity to hit and wound every hit location in a monsters hl deck in one turn provided reactions don’t stop their attack from going through. Certain monsters would keep this in check with first strike, Lightspeed, etc. But it’s still a really powerful thing that I think survivors should be looking for in the future that could make a trip to the lion god worth it! Imagine pulling every hit locations and just stacking up all the good ones for you to wound or crit and putting all the bad ones at the end of the attack chain(or discarding to rid the trap), and having a harmless reflex reaction for example cancel the rest of the attack before you get to those nasty locations. It may not be a counterweighted ax that auto wounds, and that’s probably what keeps this in check since you still have to deal with the reactions. But honestly, it’s still pretty up there in how good it is. It is locked behind the restrictions of killenium and being a novel proficiency so I do think this one has enough hoops to jump through to make this feel justified…but we shall see, this new proficiency is brand new and bound to make some splashes in future campaigns to come!

    I would like to see a mechanic like "Overlay" where the gear cards sit overtop of gear in your grid, maybe letting you keep an affinity or key word or something? Otherwise, I think "Lion Knight" armor set would be cool.
    All in all, I 100% agree with you that I want more from the lion gear. I find daggers and katars to be generally underwhelming weapons, having armor that buffs them is incredible, but its basically untenable in the gamblers chest late game.
    I said before in your review of Xell and Lenore that I would love to see lion armor get the violet phoenix gear treatment. That is still true, but I think that the Lion God is another great place to develop in CoD and indomitable white boxes. There are some expansions that I think Team Death was just inspired and on their A-Game in development, and there are others that fell flat. Unfortunately, I think that the lion god was a basket of great ideas that just didn't get the time it deserved in development.

      Yes, it really does feel like it was the last expansion in their first cycle and got pushed out of the door without enough polish. Campaigns of Death and the Silver City are the places where it can get redemption now, we'll have to see, but so far Team Death have delivered a lot higher quality of designs in their later stuff. So I think we can be optimistic.

    Do you think Ancient Lion Claw would be better if it had outfit?

      I'm not sure, it would need some adjustment because the problem isn't so much the claws (though the slot they take up is pretty significant) it's also that the base armor set is just not good enough to make an upgrade that is this small worth it.

    Can you have 2 items in the same armour slot? I didn't think you could have the Gauntlets and the Ancient claws at the same time. I may have been playing wrong.

      The Ancient Lion Claws have the Accessory ability.
      Accessory
      A gear special rule. Accessory gear may be worn in addition to armor on a hit location. Each accessory specifies the hit location it covers.

      Also, just a quick note to help you with stuff like this in the future which may help clear any potential confusion. Gear is the umbrella term for items/armor/weapons. Items are a specific subset of gear and usually they do not have survivor hit locations printed on them without the Accessory ability.

    what do you use to simulate these cards? Is this tabletop simulator? If it is, what mod or so on do you use?

      This is on the official KDM simulator. All the TTS mods in the workshop are out of date and generally the use of them is discouraged. Complete mods exist, but not on the workshop. If you've got the funds, the official sim is generally recommended.

      Yes, I use the official Kingdom Death Simulator and I would absolutely recommend it over any alternatives.

    Earthquake is awful. I misremembered it as a legendary card from watching someone else face Lion God now realising it's an auto kill basic. what the heck. I like the idea of the ascetic of Lion God but I just wish Knowledge Worm was just a resource you could chose to interact with in storage but you need to have 10+ insanity to do it. I think killing someone who is about to depart or screwing up their build by making them a necromancer out of the blue isn't the best thing. I think making knowlge worm something you interact with on your own time once you get it makes it less of an issue.
    also Adam for the love of the Godking fix that damn basic.
    Fen I think I have found a broken GCE combo involving Butcher's blood. it's VERY specific. ok Survivor with Buchers blood the ????? sword from the King it's in gibrasish langue it's effect is first hit per showdown roll 1 D10K insanity. that could easily given you 10-20 speed on a low roll well you'd just run into the trap BUT what if that survivor has the Queen of Hands knowledge (The final Verminism knowledge and a personal favourite of mine design wise.) you may reduce your speed by 1 equal to the number of successful hits before the hit locations are drawn. Gaining +1 Luck for each discarded hit location.
    So we have hit reduction to handle high speed but the final part of this madness is the regal helm seed pattern from the Regalism philosophy tree (tear 1 event table on a 10.) Spend 3 insanity to put the top card on the bottom.
    Scout checks hit locations trap is on top second person with regal helm puts trap on bottom of deck then our queen of hands butchers blood and ???? sword survivor rolls a number of D10's equal to the number of HL's in the deck -1 knowing trap is on bottom and discards some of the hits for extra luck and more or less auto cries most wound attempts given the character doing the hits only needs to spend 2 gear slots 1 for the sword one for the butchers blood.
    don't really want to see ether Queen of Hands or Buchers blood nerfed but still might need to be done. That or a change to the regal helm, exclude the trap or you need to make a tough D10 roll if it's the trap you are trying to put on bottom on a 9-10 put the trap on bottom otherwise trigger it. is the best fix to this I can think of at the moment.
    P.s absolutely loved your Alice in Wonderland X KMD idea had the idea myself it puts a smile on my face knowing that Adam likes the idea and that you have creator poots attention.
    Lastly what music do you listen to if any while playing KDM. I really hope we get some official music to go with the simulator been hoping for something like that for years. I believe I have just the right group in mind to fit KDM's tone an atmospheric music group Cryo Chamber they are made up of a large mix of artist and do tend to go for the subtle horror vibe.
