Totally agree with you on the boost function. If I have a boost on a guitar, its always on, no need for a switch. If I want a boost for solos I have it at the end of the signal chain post effects loop. Having a switchable boost pre-gain is pretty useless to me because my backing and solo tone is pretty much the same save for volume. Pretty rad guitar though and a very detailed in-depth review!
@@ManBunMetalHead I have been waiting for a year, because they make so few, but I'm first in line for the 2023 model. I'll try to do a review on my channel, since there are no unsponsored reviews for the Majesty 8, and I'm actually buying mine. 🎸
The nut is a compensated nut, which helps the intonation. I think it's a music man exclusive and it works very well. Not to be rude, but it sounds like you're playing through a transistor radio speaker. I've had one for 2 years, and it sounds great on a real amp. The boost button works very well when you switch from a light breakup to a more overdriven sound for a lead break without having to step on a pedal.
Hmmm…. A transistor radio? I would respectfully disagree. I absolutely love that tone and it’s one of the reasons a JP Majesty will be my next guitar. If fact, I want in that same blue color.
I really appreciate how you tell how you got the tone and didn't over produce to give the guitar the best tone ever. It's hard on most reviews to tell if it's the guitar or their pedal chain that sounds good
Nice review, not a guitar I would buy , but now I know the facts in regular guitarist type setting. I always want to see how a guy like me would use it.
Incredible instrument but I must say, the comment at 5:10 is enough to discourage me. Magnetic pickups like that should always work, battery or no battery. I would like to see them figure out a passive bypass for that situation.
good review! I think the trem is fine, Petrucci has no issues with it. i do wish however, it had a PTFE nut and not a Melamine nut. i fixed all the tuning issues on mine with big bends nut sauce in the nut slots and the saddles. and i wish the bridge saddles were made out of a harder material, as playing with these for an extended amount of time can cause burrs and indentations on the saddles, making string breakage much more likely.
Just a personal preference: When you demo a guitar make sure you play it clean first. You cant tell an instrument with distortion. When you play it clean dont strum, its not an acoustic guitar. Play a melody on different positions, let the instrument show its colors and capabilities (if any). And maybe use an amp, with a mic.
About the boost, Petrucci has stated (Anderton’s interview) he will use it for solos sometimes when he really wants to stand out in the live mix. It also gives you noticeably more sustain (and brings overtones out faster). But obviously I’m sure YMMV based on the rest of your rig’s setup.
I wish theyd make me a custom version with PAFs instead of the high gain Pups they have. Even when I fool around with heavy stuff I prefer lower out put Pups.

I've owned my majesty for 2 years now and couldn't knock it out of tune if I tried including dive bombing it over and over it's all in the setup. Just as stable as my fr guitars.

Nice review! Thanks for pronouncing piezo correctly and making a point of it. Interesting guitar. Thanks for the in depth review.
Thanks!
Best reviewer I’ve come across. Very informative and no nonsense

Been waiting forever for the new model year. Got my pre-order in on a Majesty 8, and it should get to me by April. Cannot wait.
Nice! That looks like a sweet guitar. Never played an 8 string myself, but have been trying out 7 string multiscales lately.

Lots of brands use compensated nuts. Earvana nuts are probably the most common compensated nut.

Honestly that wouldn't be a hard problem to fix on it. We could probebly rewire it to be like that

Thanks for your input. Probably not something I'd ever use, but if it works for Petrucci, or anyone else, that's awesome.
Just ordered mine, had to lie through my teeth with the wife, but it's on the way!!

It's the Archetype Petrucci plugin from Neural DSP

Would like to hear one plug directly into a Marshall stack
Wondering if you’re gonna do a review of the E-II horizons, they’re pretty similar imo
So, doesn’t stay in tune especially on the third string? Not worth the big dollar sign
Can you make a review of a Musicman Stingray Special 5 strings bass :-)
