    Great video! I think this is a huge help for people. A lot of people take Mega Man 1 far too fast, so they think the game is actually difficult. In reality, a lot of it is very simple commands that can be learned with practice and understanding of Mega's controls and limits!
    As a veteran Mega Man fan, 1 continues to be a fantastic little time full of interesting and unique game design.
    Thanks for shedding some analytical looks at this amazing game!

      For sure! A lot of the challenge of these old NES games is fighting against your instincts to go all out. It really helps to hold back sometimes and wait for an opening.

    I beat this game for the first time 34 years ago, and Cut Man was the first robot master I was able to defeat. It's wonderful seeing someone else, 34 years later, go through the same motions, learning to adapt, learning from defeats, and figuring out a way to win. Well done!

    I am a casual player, but i really like Cut Man as a first boss, it implements most of his mechanics in a very simple way and it works well with a perspective such as the first MegaMan, where bosses can be either a complete pain or if you look at how they work, a pushover, Cut Man's AI works in a simple way, he runs towards you, when close enough he jumps, with a random interval he throws his rolling cutter (it being random i am not sure of) and upon getting hit he gets knocked back unlike most other robot masters, if Cut Man is damaged while his rolling cutter is on his head, he will immediately throw it as well, a strategy i often see against him is just cornering Cut Man with well timed shots, same strategy can be used with Elec Man due to his long attack windup at the begining of the fight

      Is Elec Man a good boss to tackle second?

    • @leyulis8882
      @leyulis8882 9 місяців тому +1

      @@gnosis_gaming Elec Man is kind of a dirty fighter to be honest, his fight is most likely not happening buster only if you mess up the timing, he has three pivot points in where he shoots, upon you firing a shot he jumps as he pleases and if you fire twice he shoots back at you, while Elec Man is weak to rolling cutter, destroying him in just three hits, he can also destroy you in three hits, that combined with his fast movement and big blast radius and Elec Man is just a really tedious bossfight to do for a begginer at buster only

    This was the first MM1 boss I defeated as a kid. I remember being super confused that I could beat all of the robot masters in MM2, but had so much trouble with one XD In a 7 year old's mind, 2 should be harder since it came out after and I remember several times being completely wrecked (especially where you'll glitch through the foot holders in Iceman's stage and the beginning of Gutsman stage with the dropping platforms).
    The trick I used was getting Cutman on the ground to the left of Mega Man, then jumping as the cut blade hits the wall behind so your jump clears the forward and backward movement. Keeping him on the lower level instead of the blocks and dealing with his jump just when switching sides.
    I think the next I ended up beating was Fireman, then Gutsman, but I can't remember for sure (might be the other way around?). I was completely stopped by the second set of disappearing blocks on Elecman (always ended up on the left side instead of the right), the disappearing blocks on Iceman, then the foot holders, and the spike pit on Bombman where the flying shells come across (I'd always mistime the jump and end up hitting the spikes since invincibility didn't apply to spikes until MM2). Eventually I got through all of that just to be stuck in the room a bit before the Yellow Devil (Rock Monster in the Nintendo Power days) where you had to use the magnet beam to make steps to get over the column and to the ladder. I don't think I even saw Wily stage 2 until after I'd completed MM2 and MM5 (maybe 3rd or 4th grade-ish? so definitely a few years of trying and failing at MM1).
    It's for sure a toughie, but it looks like you're on to a great start! Now with the cut blades you're ready to lay the smack down on Elecman! There's also an easy way to beat Elecman with just the buster, but I didn't know about that until Legacy Collection came out thanks to whichever youtuber posted it. Good luck on the rest of the game, you've got this!

      @gnosis_gaming  9 місяців тому +1

      I also had trouble on those disappearing blocks!
      Do you like Mega Man 2 more? From what I've seen, a lot of people seem to think 2 is one of the best in the series.

    • @xeroxero9541
      @xeroxero9541 9 місяців тому

      @@gnosis_gaming MM2 is probably my second favorite in the series mainly due to nostalgia as it was the first Mega Man game I played, and the soundtrack is amazing. It is a bit easier to get into for beginners too since they added 'normal mode' where your damage is doubled and the 'difficult mode' setting is the original japanese difficulty.
      My favorite overall is 7. I had a really hard time finding a copy as our walmart and target only had Mega Man X3, and I checked week after week with no luck. My dad was the hero in that story since he contacted our rental store's supplier and they put him in contact with another place that had a copy in stock. It ended up being the latin american version (still fully english and identical dialog just with a different serial number on the box and cart), which I was a bit bummed about at first since it didn't have the preview for series 2 of the toys on the back cover like the north american version did. I still have it to this day and after the massive effort dad put in toward getting it, I think it will always be my top Mega Man game, or possibly Mega Man Legends (there's another story behind getting that one, ha ha).
      Gameplay-wise, 9 is very good albeit a bit challenging compared to the others. Lots of clever uses of the weapons and interesting level design with an oldschool feel.
      Have you played or planning on trying the X series as well? I prefer the classic series, but X is definitely the fan favorite!

      @@gnosis_gaming I don't think it will. The double gear system is a nice addition, but it seems like the game was designed around it rather than it being a crutch, so you won't miss it too much going back. Relying on anything too much will make you notice its absence I guess though. Taking away the charge shot and slide in 9 and 10 was a bit weird at first, but I just imagined I was playing 1 or 2 again and it was fine :)
      Who's your favorite robot master in 11? I was a fan of Fuse Man's design myself.

    My main strategy was to run under him when he jumped, then nail him with a buster shot as he was landing. Then fire a second buster that hit him as soon as he stopped moving backwards from the first hit. Shooting at him again would usually cause him to jump, in which case I'd run under him again, rinse and repeat.

    I was browsing the comments but it seems that all the strategies for cutman is to pre-emptively attack him. You already have the idea in keeping cutman on the blocks, but i suggest to do the opposite. For an easy, no-fuss strategy for cutman, when you start the fight, just stay still. As the battle starts, he will move towards you. Now when he is near the blocks, he will jump towards you. At this point, jump and time your shot so that it will hit cutman and he will fall back on the floor. He will fall back on the floor and do that cutman animation thingy (also funny because it looks like he's angry). Repeat the process until he's defeated. No running. No dodging. Just jump and shoot.
