Budget 2/10
Trying & passion 3000/10
That's why I wish this guys da best. Because they have passion. You know. They really trying hard to make awesome movies. And I like it. It's funny and entertaining. Their movies have soul. It's kinda trash-movies in good meaning of that. They have near-zero budget but a lot of passion. Love such things. Wish them luck. And go and buy a signed DVD for supporting them =)

This is the shit. The movies may be corny as hell, but these guys are following their dreams and creating a precedent for a film industry in the country. Who knows, maybe one day Uganda will be know for it's films.

5:39 This skirmish right here is actually one of the best fights for a low budget film I've seen in awhile. It's not a neat and obviously choregraphed fight, it's dirty, it's how an actual fight would unfold in a exaggerated action film.
yeah that’s some pretty good choreography
You are not wrong at all man, I actually really like that scene, you can really see how they up the ante with each film. Loving how they aren't buying new products to film the movie but using old scrap metal and customizing into a weapon. This is just not only a film but a piece of art.
Keiji Ishida its not easy to have a real gun in uganda and i heard that the police refused to hire them real guns thats why they started making their own.
Thank you I didn't know that the laws in Uganda was strict with weapons. I am a High school student who goes to an art High and I always wanted to see an independent film that is creative and uses prop thats not been bought but made. And many people now a days is not really thinking to much about the film and the shot it self but the tools there using and I don't like that.
but its a good idea, we still have fun out of what they produce
Katongole Paulinho II Even in the UK you aren't using live firearms that much. The most common types of weapons used for filming are soft-airs and replicas. The live firearms come with an armourer and fire blank shots.
Keiji Ishida exactly. when i saw that part, i felt like ron swanson at a woodworking convention.
That was a really deep point about "stereotyping African violence." The people just like their action movies, like any other people. They like to feel attached to strong action heroes. Maybe even more than us. We all like having someone to root for, someone on our side.

Strange how we respect Wakaliwood more than actual Hollywood. Because this is passion, doing what you love regardless of the circumstance. While Hollywood complains about having to break even at the Box Office, Wakaliwood just does their own thing.
Honestly a lot better than high budget Hollywood movies, I watched Who Killed Captain Alex from start to end and enjoyed it a lot more than any Hollywood movie I’ve ever watched
They might not have the production value, nor the skills or equipment. But damn their passion, sweat, tears and blood is behind it. I respect the hell out of them.
Just remember, they were rated 8.8 on MDB, pretty good for a low budget movie

They got the skills, the kung fu scenes are great

They entertain people, which is just special.
They're so passionate about this. It's amazing what they could do with a larger budget.
William Simpson Well, budget is one thing, but resources to learn to improve is another. I think the director (and producer) not only lacks the computing power for better programs, but also lacks knowledge of how to use those programs.
a bigger budget could probably help, but what they really do need is more foreign directors and producers to help out, as the new yorker said in the video.

Best example of where there is will there is way. The amount of effort and passion they put in the movies deserve much respect, awards and funding.

This is the real essence of cinema... George Melies, Murnau and the other "fathers" of cinema did the same more than a century ago, creating everithing with their own forces.

Absolutely love these guys. They have just a tiny morsel of a fraction of a percentage of a traditional movie budget, but their drive and passion for making their art _absolutely_ shines through to create something bigger than the sum of its parts.
His movies make me laugh, but he always makes me cry. He sold everything he had for the camera, and he didn’t have enough, so he made bricks by hand and sold them to get the rest. He built his PC himself. He wanted to make movies and he brings so much fun and joy to everyone on his village, and from there it spread out to millions of people. If I’m not mistaken, the first time he was in a movie theater was when he was watching his movie in a film festival, and these guys watching Enter the Dragon and mimicking Bruce Lee make better fight scenes than most Hollywood studios. Ffs I love this man. He’s an inspiration.
Well said

Art is important in a society, it creates heroes and sometimes heroes can inspire people to lead creative and productive lives. It's awesome that these people are using this time and energy to create rather than destroy. Uganda has long been plagued by conflict and tragedy so hopefully this might allow people more of a common ethos.
So true. I thought this was brilliant, find their vision inspiring having been in Africa a few times
Corey Knight and that from a person using a picture of Stalin as a profil pic ^^
dogmatix15 I have never been to the continent but I have studied it a lot. I think that most of these people could easily devote their skills and determination to any of the many militia groups or rival gangs, but rather than perpetuate the cycle of war they work together on these projects. Imagine future generations of Ugandans refusing to contribute to civil war for a dream of Wakaliwood and making friends from enemies. People from one village might learn new admiration for an enemy village when one of their villagers play a lead role in their favorite film. I might be an optimistic westerner getting ahead of myself but I think there are things that no amount of foreign aid can influence but these films might be the solution to apathy, despair and hatred.
Corey Knight Order from chaos - Terence Mckenna
Corey Knight Oh lord, okay, Corey, no offence meant mate,i hate to be that guy but, a few things i should clarify, since you say you have "studied" the continent(and btw, there are so many cultures from Africa that that generalization makes me doubt that statement ), as a Ugandan :
-There hasnt been actual civil war in Uganda in close to 20+ years . Also,if you count Kony, he was a mad man who ,together with a bunch of goons, terrorized the Uganda/Sudan border and was chased to Congo years before the International Community took notice
-There are no "rival villages". That notion is so ridiculous i dont even...what exactly did you study? Jesus , who has time for that? There are tribes yes, but tribal violence is unheard of here . Like....what did you study? Jesus
-Current generations, present generations, etc are all just like you and any other american/european/asian/south american. No one is riding around in a mercedes shooting at pedestrians like you see in the movies .
Look, i hate to shit on an "optimistic westerner" but your statement was so .....off point as to actual Ugandans and any actual problems they have that i had to type out this TL;DR response
Reminds me of this article i read , by a western missionary who came to Kenya and was "let down and disappointed" by how normal everything was, supermarkets, cars ,etc, no starving fly children and ebola patients like she expected. SMH

"Because I enjoy what I do"
