    The Dell PowerEdge R620 server is a dual processor system. The R620 has two LGA2011 sockets, which means that the R620 accepts Intel Xeon E5-2600 or v2 series processors. Please note, that in order to use the v2 processors, you must have an updated BIOS. In general, it is best practice to keep everything on your system up to date, which you can learn how in our Mass Updates video. Below are some of the CPUs that we recommend for the R620 server. This list is not a complete list of supported processors, but it consists of a few great processors within the E5-2600 and E5-2600 v2 series.
    Low End CPUs
    E5-2660 - 8 Core 2.2GHz
    E5-2670 - 8 Core 2.6GHz
    E5-2680 - 8 Core 2.7GHz
    Value CPUs
    E5-2660v2 - 10 Core 2.2GHz
    E5-2670v2 - 10 Core 2.5GHz
    E5-2680v2 - 10 Core 2.8GHz
    High End CPUs
    E5-2690v2 - 10 Core 3.0GHz
    E5-2695v2 - 12 Core 2.4GHz
    E5-2697v2 - 12 Core 2.7GHz
    In this video, we also show you how to remove and replace your old processor. It is important to be cautious so you do not damage the pins in the CPU socket when removing the old processor. It is also important to make sure old thermal paste doesn’t get into the socket. We will show you how to handle your CPU and perform a CPU upgrade. These step-by-step instructions are great for beginners as well as those who need a refresher.

    I know this video is a little older. But I have there of these Dell r620's in my homelab. I bought 3 pairs (6) of the E5-2690v2 processors to upgrade them. I install them in server 1, server 2, and server 3. The system boots up detects a configuration change, figures out what CPUs are installed. All three servers seem to work fine. However servers 1 and 2 just SCREAM all the time those fans are just flying. Server 3 boots does the configuration change detection but then returns to a lower RPM fan speed and is fine. All three servers seem to detect the CPUs accurately.
    The lifecycle settings seem to all be the same, for the life of me cannot figure out what's going on. I wanted the extra headroom of the e5-2690v2's but I might have to downgrade because this is too much noise for a homelab. If they ran as quietly as server 3 with the same CPU it would be manageable.
    Ideas?

    great stuff! great hardware, great videos! Im doing a test with my servers at render farm because i wanna test wich servers can I tur n on having the highest power-energy drained factor

      also we're not having so much time because the render farm is like everytime 100% full because there are much 4k 60 fps animation rendering with all the kind of beautyenss (right?) in the frames

      That sounds like a fun project. Especially since power has gotten so expensive.

      But we have 14hW solar panels with batteries but the farm consumes up to 2.7kW and we have all the offices with lights and other great stuff

    Will a SR1XS INTEL XEON E5-2670V3 work or does in have to be a 2600v2?

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  10 місяців тому +1

      Has to be V1 or V2.

    Hi, can I use a Dell PowerEdge R620 motherboard in a Dell PowerEdge R630 8 x 2.5" Bay 1U server chassis? Is there compatibility?

      Interesting question. I've never tried it, but I have a feeling it wouldn't work.

    Quick question, the heatsink is compatible with all of the available cpus for this model correct? I'm adding a 2690 v2 to my system and didn't know if I had to upgrade heatsinks or not.

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  Рік тому +2

      Your original heatsinks will work fine. Just make sure to clean off old thermal paste and add new thermal. Good luck!

    Is it possible to install an Intel Xeon E5-2600-v3 series processor or is that not supported at all?

      Great question. This is how I view it...but of course you should consult with your parents... a server is just a computer in a different form factor that is built a little stronger with added features. Think truck compared to car. If you are seriously interested in learning, then I think owning an old cheap one is a good way to start, play around, and pick up new skills. Servers are only becoming more important so depending what you want to do for work when you are an adult (which don't worry if you don't know now!)... you could get a great head start compared to others your age. Just know going in certain servers need a lot of power and fans can be loud. Plenty of people put in their homes but those are 2 of the biggest draw backs to having in your house. Good luck!
