400EX Axle On 250R

- I took this video down shortly after I put it up because I saw a post on a message forum that suggested what I say in here may not be totally accurate. I've searched further, but all other sources support what I have. I intend to take a couple of measurements off my quad to double check, but I've not been able to do so, yet, and visual inspection doesn't show anything amiss. If you know for certain that there is an issue, let me know and I'll take the proper steps.
Someone asked a couple of years back for me to make a video of my axle setup. This isn't a terribly thorough video, just what I'm doing.I do want to investigate a couple of other options down the road, though. Also, I forgot to mention that the 400EX bearing carrier is a direct fit replacement as well.
Can you make some more videos? I really enjoy watching your 250R projects. What are you working on these days?
Lately working on problems with my trucks and a few other things. My 250R's been a garage queen for a few years, while I've been on two wheels with friends.
i have a durablue axle from a 400ex and a baldwin racing 400ex carrier but im using stock 250r axle hub and axle nut and the nut bottomed out still wont clear the snap ring. I have a stock 250r axle just due to the head ache it has cost me. Im glad you posted this vid im a fan! My next horror is trying to get a 450r rear brake setup to work on my stock setup. Any suggestions rusty?
To my knowledge, none of the 450R rear swing arms are a bolt up deal. It'd have to be researched. If I ever get the Hooptie running, I've been considering a 450R rear for that because of the sprocket alignment with the XR motor.
rustyATV I think so.eone told me that the 05 and earlier 450r swingarm will fit.
The swing arm fits.just need to use trx250r shock from a certainty year and linkage from a certain year.works fine.and sprocket goes on opposite side of sprocket hub
They need cleaned mine are crusted up as well My lock nut is pretty chewed up also I might look into getting a new one. This rear setup and finding rear shock and motor mount bolts is keeping me from riding kinda sucks. I just found out also that im going to have to run a 450r hub and disk if i want to run the 450 setup. Ive heard so many different stories on how to do this on forums im in a head spin dont really know if its worth the added head ache and money to try it lol.
I tried doing what you did in the video but had no luck. Because I race xc ill just use my stock setup. As for rear brakes Ive found all im missing is the 450r brake stay so im hoping that will work if not ill just run stock
My next task after all of that is to do the 450 front end setup all i need to do with that is sell my walsh +3 arms and find some +1 arms
Are you saying my video helped you fix your problem, or that you have a similar stock axle nut that isn't working like mine did?
I'm really close to doing a 450R rear brake on my quad. I've been rebuilding a stock 250R rear caliper only to find that Honda made one of the pad isolation clips available only as an assembly for about $80. Someone on ATVriders made a thread about it, you have to buy the rear brake hub and add a spacer, if I recall.
Where exactly did you machine the antifade down at? The side that is threaded or the side that butts up against the snap ring? Thanks
It was the big threaded end. I haven't had my 250R apart in years, but I want to say you don't end up actually cutting any threads, there's a bit of shoulder that can be faced down in a lathe.
i run a 400ex axle in mine
Hmmm. How clean are the threads on your lock nut and spacer? I remember mine getting crusted up pretty well when I raced with it, making it tough to get off.
why run a 400ex axle when you have a 250r axle
Because I don't have a usable 250R axle, but had a spare 400ex axle
+rustyATV oh I thought those other two where 250r axles my problem right now with my 250r is the sprocket hub went bad on my dura blue axle but I have a spare 400ex axle laying around. can you take the sprocket hub off the 400ex axle and use it on the other axles.
The other two ARE 250R axles. One is a +1/+4 axle that came off the Craigslist Special I disassembled, but is wider than I want to go for a woods quad, and the other is the old Durablue I had on my 250R, but has worn splines and trashed sprocket hub when I neglected the axle bearings. I had the 400EX axle on hand from the Hooptie project and didn't want to shell out $500 for a new axle when I wasn't riding it much, anymore.
No idea regarding swapping the two over; I've never tried getting sprocket hubs off. You might pose that question to a forum or Facebook group.
Alright. Cool
what swingarm is on that R
factory 88-89 250R
+rustyATV oh I got an 86 250r
