For those of you who have this problem the solution is simple. If you flip the shaft and the gear over and look at the end of the shaft that goes into the case, look at the end of the the two...there is timing marks punched on the gear and shaft that have to line up on the shaft for the spring tension to be correct. It is that simple.
No it is not I have the parts installed correctly and the spring still pops off every time the case goes the spring is worn where it insert into the hole and the hole itself is showing signs of wear. Replacing the spring solved the issue.
the spring is located in the hole closest to the gear. not the hole on the shaft. this will allow the spring to sit closer to the gear and to be pretensioned. he has put the spring in the shaft hole not the hole closest to the gear.
RIP, the mounting point for the spring in mine is a piece of metal secured by a allen screw. The screw immediately stripped out and I do not feel like doing a full tear-down to get that fucker loose. I'll survive, it only takes a couple of kicks to start anyway.
To clarify further...the gear is a two piece ratchet and the inner ratchet piece is what has the stamp mark on it. Line this up with the stamp on the end of the shaft and your good to go. Hope this helps you out.
The honda cr85 kick shaft is really tricky to get on, the hole is located bottom left and when spring pops off there is no way to get the spring arm past the clutch basket whilst its still in place so you have to pull kick shaft off completely (making sure the locations marks are lined up ) put the pin in the hole then use the actual kick on the shaft and turn it putting tension on the spring until it goes past the little catch that sits behind the shaft then push it all into place while making sure the other spring at the back sits in its place and the main spring doesn’t spring out of the hole, takes a good couple of tries ill tell you that 😂
You need more preasure on the spring. Move the spring back more, or the post that it gos on. You should have to really pull on the spring to get it in place so it will hold
I wanted to take the pull starter off a 79 cc predator and replace it with a kick-starter what problems do you foresee and what solutions? Obvious I'm not going to have that spring toe-hold.
My Foster son bought a 93Yamaha RT180. The kick start spring was broke. Got a new spring but cant seem to see where the free end of the spring connects. Cant find a video or Pic to show where it connects . Any help PLEASE would be appreciated!! I'm assuming under the clutch maybe?
The gear does not look like it is in all the way and I think u got the wrong hole look for an other free hole on the back side that is where mine is but I don't know what bike u got or anything hope this helps
I had the same problem on my cr80 take the shaft out check that the two punch marks are next to each other and if that dosent work use rtv to hold the spring in the case so you can get the side on
Dude, I’m completely rebuilding an 89 Cr 80 and trying to restore it to new condition. Parts are all but gone out there but I have 3 toasted crankshafts in 3 lower ends which still. Have plenty of good parts. I can’t get that spring to seat. Is it supposed to go in that inner hole on the center casing? I have new seals and gaskets and that’s the only thing that’s stopping me from completing this bike. I managed to get all the plastics back to nearly new condition with powder coated frame . Found a seat cover for that specific 1989 year. It’s the all red CR 80. I’m just hung up on this darn kick start spring assembly. This was a comment from six years ago. I hope you will hear me out there in the UA-cam world.
your inner washer notch must slide over the inside spring tang you dont have this properly installed. The outer spring tang DOES go in that hole if you have a honda crf 04-06 do not attempt to bend the spring until you have the base properly installed.

He never gave a solution or even verbalized his issue

Yours still a hero 7 years later! Just rebuilding a car 125 2001 and run into the problem! Legend

You just got me back up and running i didn’t see the hole further back and put it back together wrong and broke my case. It’s fixed now!!
yo i love you. i just spent 2 days fighting the case and you just pointed out the exact priblem. your a absolute legend

Sweet, just broke my spring this afternoon so now I know I don't have to take the clutch off.

Omfg you saved my life ! I couldn’t figure out what the hell was wrong with my bike until I seen this
Did u manage to get the kickstart locked on to the shaft that turns the engine over
@@cliveswabs9365 yes
@@cliveswabs9365 wasn’t easy tho
@@johnnygalvan1344 i made the mistake of using silicone gasket which is 0mm thick ...when 1mm thick is needed to release the spring
Tolerances are so tight
i think u gotta use the kick start lever to actually turn the kick start spindal to get the spring into place~
This is exactly how you must do it.
Nice, I was looking for the answer before actually trying it. Thank you very much!
Line up the marks on the gear and shaft. I did the same thing. Once.
How
Putting the case on keeps it all together
when you say mum i got this but you dont no what you are doing ahha
When the kickstart shaft is in the correct positiong. The correct hole for the spring is towards the bottom left.
