My older brother said the Magna in our hometown were gapping the v6 holdens and fords I saw someone else comment the same thing few times also. Can confirm she was shockingly quick.
I think 510 Ralliarts were built mostly in 2002 with roughly 1 of 4 cars manual, 5 colours Red, sable black pearl, white and pewter silver but 2 autos with sunroofs were wasp yellow. About 497 were numbered. There was build number 1 to 498 and 12 unnumbered cars built in 2001. The first Ralliart was a white manual built on October 10, 2001. The last one a red auto (build no 496) was built on 30 September 2002. My TJ Sports reaches 100km/h in just under 8 seconds in drive with just me alone inside the car (17x7 Alloy wheels, 235 tyres).
The ones that were built in 2001, I think there was at least 5 of them. Ex-Show car's or pre-production examples. Possibly some unnumbered ones too. But 5 of these came with different camshafts & compression ratio. They boosted power to 210kw from 180kw. There was concerns about them not meeting emission regulations, but they were still sold as such by Misubishi. I think that Autospeed previewed one & did a drag race against a Subaru WRX STI. They claimed that the Ralliart Magna killed the STI despite the Ralliart Magna being weight disadvantaged by the presence of another passenger. But think they were 13sec car's based on what these owner's have put on record.
The reason the car was so fast & good was because it was alot lighter than the competition. Most of it's RWD competition were over 1600kg. The Ralliart Magna was 1470kg, 1430kg with a flat tyre repair kit like it's competition were using. But 30 of them were Supercharged, which means that they could have 250kw. But they were the fastest car in their class around the Australian Motorkhana, so they handled really well. It also had a very low aerodynamic co-efficiency of 0.28.
Mad car man & very rare these days I've always admired the look of them,in my honest opinion the 80's & 90's were great but the early 00's is where it was at its best in the car scene what a time to have been alive & no one can change my mind I'm sure you agree Johnny, nice review thanks mate.
The standard 3.5L Magnas are pretty fun cars to drive, not the greatest handling but a lot of grunt for what they are being a bit lighter than the competition. Also being FWD you can be pretty silly with them without getting into trouble
Mate used to have a manual vrx with a 380 engine conversion and bit of work done and it went pretty hard for a magna for the short time he had it before it caught fire and burnt to the ground!!!
These cars are absolutely amazing for what they are and quick too! Check out the speedway Magnas in street stocks and production sedans classes, they’ve been tearing up the field as of late, the current aus 1 is a Magna!
I love the Magna, especially the TJ. I had a manual TJ VRX and it was the car that made me love fwd cars from before previously thinking rwd was superior. Also the 3.5v6 was one of the most responsive feeling engines and sounds amazing for a V6. I used to beat BA XR6s and V6 commodores from the lights. I've also driven a base auto Magna and while it was good for a family sedan it wasn't what the VRX manual was. Currently drive a Mitsubishi Pajero io and it's also got a great manual gearbox.
Keep finding awesome cars in my erya i had a mits vereda factory evo sleeper 2000 got off my mum bloody awesome traded for the clubby another great review bro Vz Glenn
Certainly an interesting and obscure car... For memory, I've heard that the Magna Ralliart tried to compete with performance Commodores and Falcons, and was priced like one as well, which is the reason why it didn't sell well...
Definitely enjoy this vid as i remember when this version came to market, it was Mitsubishi last chance unfortunately it wasn't enough but these Magna have stood test of time. The best front wheel drive car that i had was Leyland Mini but wouldn't mind Manga Ralliart in my garage.
Something you dont see everyday.........a car to hang on ......i liked the interior for its time....nice to see you hit the Limiter.......on the 0-100.....😅...enjoyed the review....
After driven my Mum's 2004 TL VR Magna I... didn’t hate it as much as I though I would lol it goes alright with the 3.5L V6 and its 5sp auto was surprisingly good, subtle bodykit/wheels, nice blacked out interior with red fabric highlights, white dials, leather wheel etc even has a sportier muffler from factory on the VR. I think it must've got most of the VRX catalogue minus the more aggressive bodykit and maybe missed out on the AWD option in VR spec? Well equipped car and nice to drive, i still prefer my Commodores but its still better than expected. After owning a Holden LX8 Adventra thats AWD aswell, I'd be interested to see how the AWD Magna models feel to drive, i remember reading Mitsubishi used Evo parts for it.
@@lawbricktimboynton1818 30 came with the Sprintex Superchargers. No they aren't factory, but the setup was applied to 30 Ralliart Magna's that were brand new. Also they did this to some AWD Magna's too. I'm not certain how many though. The most powerful one created was a wasp yellow TJ series Mitsubishi Magna VRX manual. It had 251kw & 440nm while weighing 1450kg.
Love the mits 3.5 had 02 tuned vrx 5speed tiptronic. Absolute weapon, one of the most underrated cars. The vrx looks better in my opinion also with no rear wing looks sleek
Definately the Magna was the better car to drive around the streets, more nimble, my dad had one, got to drive around in it when I first got my licence 😆 Great exhaust sound for this engine also 👌
All jokes aside they weren't to bad of car for a magna and even the stock version of this car had a pretty punchy engine. They'll really rev and aren't afraid of it. Very fuel efficient but I absolutely hate front wheel driven cars. They were a comfy ride to. Sounds pretty crisp especially being a manual too!👌 Great video Ross thanks for sharing buddy.👍😀
I love it when you review niche rare cars like these. Pretty good competitors with the falcon and commodores. Heard ppl tell me a magna has beat their commodores and falcons in a drag at least once 😂. Quite funny but goes to show that these cars have built up a great reputation over the years

Nothing could run away from it especially in the Adelaide Hills. I live in America now and I miss it. But I got a 400hp Volvo S60R 6 speed manual now.
ive never driven a ralliart magna. but the standard magnas went hard , the felt much faster then a stock commodore of the day. even up against a v8 commodore they felt more eager from the lights
Recommend driving one in the auto I’ve had several magnas as a daily and a verada gtvi is the best daily I’ve had super comfy and quick enough you can give a stock vy ss a decent run and seem to go forever. The auto is an underrated thing far better then the 4 speed slush box of the time
I had one 30M I converted to manual using the 5spd from one of these! Great fun till I had to sell it. I now have a white manual Ralliart, it’s much better imo. But could always be better, maybe some MIVEC heads would help 😅
Nice work Ross. You pretended to be impressed. I dips me hat. I bet you couldn't wait to get your back side back into your ute and feel the raw power of a rear wheel tyre shredder!
They are great cars the TMR 380s. Braking & from a roll on, no doubt they were striking. But they weren't as fast as the Supercharged Ralliart Magna's. 30 Ralliart Magna's came Supercharged, they had about 250kw & weighed about 240kg less than the TMR 380. They weighed 270kg less than the TMR 380 if you equip them with a flat tyre repair kit. Plus some AWD Magna's were Supercharged too. They weighed 100kg less than the TMR 380.
@@DA_81C Yes, the Cordia was very fast in a straight line at the time. Some had alot more power than other's too, plus their was the Cop car's. But the true performance gun back then was the Starion. The Starion won many awards & achieved many notable racing win's. In standard trim, it offered a significant portion of the Cordia's straight line go. But it made up for not being as quick by being very quick in the corner's. It was excellent at drifting too.
@@DA_81C Actually I'm not sure if you recall them but do you remember the Mitsubishi Sigma Turbo's? They were incredibly fast when they appeared. It was Australia's first RWD turbocharged car. It had 116kw & 235nm weighing 1197kg. It allowed the car to go from 0-60mph in 7sec flat & cover the 1/4 mile in 15.5sec. That compares with the Mitsubishi Starion. Which had 125kw & 245nm weighing 1260kg. The Widebody JDM Starions were a bit quicker as they got 150kw & 280nm with the superior styling ques, but weight increased due to the body kit to 1320kg. The Cordia Turbo had 110kw & 210nm weighing 970kg. The Sigma Turbo's got overshadowed by the Cordia & Starion turbo's due to them having superior styling. But the Sigma Turbo's set the pace for them I think. I will still grab the Widebody Starion myself, love the styling & racing heritage.

The last one a red auto (build no 496) was built on 30 September 2002. My TJ Sports reaches 100km/h in just under 8 seconds in drive with just me alone inside the car (17x7 Alloy wheels, 235 tyres).
Thanks for the information 🫡
I knew a guy who loved Magnas especially the awd ones.
Cool car just hope the red don't fade
The standard 3.5L Magnas are pretty fun cars to drive, not the greatest handling but a lot of grunt for what they are being a bit lighter than the competition. Also being FWD you can be pretty silly with them without getting into trouble
They Were Better Than A Commodore And Falcon.
End Of Sentence.
have always liked these, this example sounds really good!
Glad you like it! not a bad note at all
I remember racing one of these in my AU2 XR8. Had 3 drags, and this thing was only about one car length behind. They were and are a great car.
They move pretty well eh
Just depends on which one it is.
30 were Supercharged after all.
They put out about 250kw.
Mate used to have a manual vrx with a 380 engine conversion and bit of work done and it went pretty hard for a magna for the short time he had it before it caught fire and burnt to the ground!!!
Rip 🪦
Right on very nice
Had white.manual.with no sun roof.loved it.
Great cars
Certainly an interesting and obscure car... For memory, I've heard that the Magna Ralliart tried to compete with performance Commodores and Falcons, and was priced like one as well, which is the reason why it didn't sell well...
Yep, cos a lot of people preferred the versatility of bigger motor and rear wheel drive, better for towing and better fuel Econ on longer drives.
it was in that price range but being fwd and a v6 it never had a hope.. still a great car tho
@@jamesaustralian9829
I disagree with better fuel economy.
Ralliart Magna's can deliver fuel economy as low as 6.4L per 100km when driven sedately.
Should try get your hands on a Mitsubishi TMR 380, supercharged 3.8. Only 20 made
whos got one!
Definitely enjoy this vid as i remember when this version came to market, it was Mitsubishi last chance unfortunately it wasn't enough but these Magna have stood test of time. The best front wheel drive car that i had was Leyland Mini but wouldn't mind Manga Ralliart in my garage.
Yeh it’s sad they never got another chance as it has really good bones
Yer the kits made it look heaps better. Great vids cheers
takes me back to my early years!
Brilliant Aussie made cars that are often forgotten about.
I’ll keep showing them off
Something you dont see everyday.........a car to hang on ......i liked the interior for its time....nice to see you hit the Limiter.......on the 0-100.....😅...enjoyed the review....
glad you enjoyed it mate
The AWD Magna. Is my favourite Magna, as far as Magna’s go 😂
After driven my Mum's 2004 TL VR Magna I... didn’t hate it as much as I though I would lol it goes alright with the 3.5L V6 and its 5sp auto was surprisingly good, subtle bodykit/wheels, nice blacked out interior with red fabric highlights, white dials, leather wheel etc even has a sportier muffler from factory on the VR.
I had a new AWD MAGNA from new. Best car I've owned.
@@peterfey9921 nice, was it a 50/50 split like Subaru?
@@craigsampson3386the awd model has an lsd inside the transfer case which a lot of people snag because they are at the end of the day a magna part
@@lawbricktimboynton1818 do you mean snag as in it hangs down too low and gets caught on things?
@@craigsampson3386I mean as in take the parts for an evo legnum galant vr4 etc
Built here in south aus that’s insane fact I never knew. They were quick those magnas I heard stories
The ralliart colts are pocket rockets. Should try one if possible
Always thought these looked good, very practical as well with a huge boot and back seat. Wish they did an AWD version. Great review as always Ross 👌
thanks brother
They did make awd versions of the Magna. Not the Ralliart variant tho because Mitsubishi was afraid of the performance capability against the evo
@@lawbricktimboynton1818
Well they still Supercharged the AWD Magna's.
Come to think of it, they Supercharged 30 Ralliart Magna's too.
@@brantleyfoster021 no they didn’t. No magna came supercharged from factory. You might be thinking of the tmr 380. But yet, wasn’t from factory
@@lawbricktimboynton1818
30 came with the Sprintex Superchargers.
No they aren't factory, but the setup was applied to 30 Ralliart Magna's that were brand new.
Also they did this to some AWD Magna's too.
I'm not certain how many though.
The most powerful one created was a wasp yellow TJ series Mitsubishi Magna VRX manual.
It had 251kw & 440nm while weighing 1450kg.
great car, very underrated 👌
Sick car! For a bigger sedan, it looks in mint proportion. Sounds sweet. What a find! Owner must be laughing!!
I’ve owned 7 of them ( no Ralliarts) each of them awsome
good cars
Nice find and in Ralliart red!
Yes it was! Very cool
Love the mits 3.5 had 02 tuned vrx 5speed tiptronic. Absolute weapon, one of the most underrated cars. The vrx looks better in my opinion also with no rear wing looks sleek
Sounds good to. Under rated cars. I love all cars but have a soft spot for 90s/early 2000s cars
Me too
Definately the Magna was the better car to drive around the streets, more nimble, my dad had one, got to drive around in it when I first got my licence 😆
Great exhaust sound for this engine also 👌
Lol love the look of this car..especially the NA melody.
Looks great in that colour and sounds sweet. A twin turbo awd version could have been insane.
that really would have been great eh
Might have been mentioned already but magnas/veradas were also sold in the US. Admittedly not this ralliart model.
Opened my eyes to the Magna for sure
I love it when you review niche rare cars like these. Pretty good competitors with the falcon and commodores. Heard ppl tell me a magna has beat their commodores and falcons in a drag at least once 😂. Quite funny but goes to show that these cars have built up a great reputation over the years
these are some of my fav cars to review.. weird and rare
Love it, had one for a few years and the thing was a go kart
they really handle good!
Only thing missing on this Magna is some Lancer Evo VI Tommi Makinen edition style stripes
Very similar eh🤣
My old man had the nz diamante sport version in tiptronic, could do 140 in 2nd
nice
Should have handed the keys to my TH Magna Sports 5mt.
Upgraded 24mm rear sway bar
D2 Racing Coilovers
Port and Polished 380 induction manifold
Xforce Exhaust system
Pacemaker extractors
380 injectors
Aggressive Ralliart tune making over 200kws
Stoptech rotors
RPW short throw shifter
Raliiart side skirts rear bumper and wing
Sports wagon front lip
I built it to go fast everywhere not just in a straight line.
Nothing could run away from it especially in the Adelaide Hills.
I live in America now and I miss it.
But I got a 400hp Volvo S60R 6 speed manual now.
Would love to have seen thay
Major missed opportunity, could of teamed up with Motoring Box, to showcase his one, that his fixed up on his youtube channel.
We're at opposite ends of the country!
If his travelled from Canada a quick 2 hour flight is nothing for him haha
if i was near him haha would love to collab with Motoring box some day tho
@MotoringBoxTV
Looks like it was filmed near tambourine mountain. Qld number plates.
ive never driven a ralliart magna. but the standard magnas went hard , the felt much faster then a stock commodore of the day. even up against a v8 commodore they felt more eager from the lights
They are really good handlers surprisingly
Recommend driving one in the auto I’ve had several magnas as a daily and a verada gtvi is the best daily I’ve had super comfy and quick enough you can give a stock vy ss a decent run and seem to go forever. The auto is an underrated thing far better then the 4 speed slush box of the time
You wanna check out the Toyota TRD...Supercharged V6 front wheel drive
He’s done one on his channel already
It's a shame that Toyota, doesn't release the GR Camry like they have in America - turbo V6 RWD. They only sell us 4cyl FWD junk.

Massively
Easy to hate on it. 2002 Honda were dropping the NSX V6 into sports sedans.
Would be keen to see a review of a Mitsubishi 380. I heard they were a dud but I still see plenty around on the roads. Curious

I had one 30M I converted to manual using the 5spd from one of these! Great fun till I had to sell it.
I now have a white manual Ralliart, it’s much better imo. But could always be better, maybe some MIVEC heads would help 😅
Today I see again a magna Ralliart, NSW central coast sounds ok
Very rare find
Nice work Ross. You pretended to be impressed. I dips me hat. I bet you couldn't wait to get your back side back into your ute and feel the raw power of a rear wheel tyre shredder!
🤣 brother I actually was impressed tho i wouldn’t trade my LS for it 😎🗿
The tommi makinen of the magnas 🙏
Legit 🤣
Hey Ross you want to see a rare Mitsubishi find a legnum vr4 you won’t be disappointed
ive seen way more legnums in my life than this, the magna is rarer
ill do one soon!
A great Australian car 👍
Was fantastic
I’ve always liked the TRD Aurions also, regardless AusDM cars are pretty funky good things.
ive filmed one of them also a cool car
At the time of release the media dubbed them 'The Bird of Prey' due to the front end styling...they almost look like an angry bird about to strike!
🤣 definitely wild styling
Didn’t Mitsubishi put out a supercharged family sedan? The 380TMR…only 20 were built? Would love to see that on this channel
@@brantleyfoster021 Mitsubishi made some crackers back in the day. Remember the Cordia?
@@DA_81C
Yes, the Cordia was very fast in a straight line at the time.
@@DA_81C
Actually I'm not sure if you recall them but do you remember the Mitsubishi Sigma Turbo's?
Mate come to port macquarie can show u some gems we have here
I remember years ago seeing the occasional ralliart magna pop up for 4k-7k
Now its like ha pfft good luck finding one under 10k that hasnt been wrecked or hasnt been poached for parts
I remember when these were released there were rumours that mitsubishi would join the supercar championship. but they weren't allowed.
Would have loved to see that
If they were made as RWD they would have been awesome
We're supposed to be AWD but cost cut...
it really didnt affect it to much but would have been better of course
I thought the focus RS was awd. And didn't they make a magna that was awd.
Awd Magnas are auto only unfortunately. Still great cars, but not as engaging.
As for Focus RS, Ross is talking Mk2, they were awd from Mk3
@@Boskaz85
But they have the same auto G-Box as the EVO VII GTA.
So they can be tuned very heavily.
You can give them launch control & also make the shifts lightning fast.
