Thanks for a great review! FYI - the crazed keycaps are pudgier because the crackle glaze needs to be layered on much thicker than clear glaze in order to get that cracked effect. Thicker layer = more cracks and better colour pay off
It's something I've noticed too and I have no idea why. Irl I talk like twice as fast but for some reason the moment I hit record my cadence slooooows dooooown...
thank you for talking about the crazed keycaps, you are the only person that i found to talk about this. i'm a really nitpicked person and those flaws would have bothered me so much.
I was really disappointed with v1. Not only did the keys fall off, I had an issue where ceramic dust would rub off of the steams and get into my switches, making them really scratchy. They ruined a whole set of switches. The caps also have the worst tolerances of any keycaps I've tried, and sometimes they are shifted to the right or left so much that they were huge gaps between adjacent keys. Even if they solved the stem issue, it looks like the molds aren't very crisp. I guess I'll pass.
To each their own I guess. I just bought mine and the only ones that clash are the Alt keys but most of the time I don't even notice it. Other than that I kinda enjoy the little imperfections they have, they really give the feeling of an artisanal product
I've got a v1 set from their first kickstarter round and I love them. I guess I'm lucky because they stay tight on my switches. But yeah, v2 stems are a much better design. It's almost ironic that they introduced another issue with their "fixed" crazed keycaps. Apparantly the coating is way too thick on them.
I'm planning on buying this for my wooting 60he. With lekker 45 (45 gram switches), I was wondering if you think the spacebar would be too heavy for the switches.
I don't have any switches that light, but I did build an electro capacitive keyboard with 35g "switches" and was supposed to see that I didn't need stronger springs. But those are completely different from mechanical switches and I wouldn't use that as a sign that it'll work
That's super weird. You should definitely contact them. I was able to communicate with someone through their discord. They have a system that creates new support tickets and stuff
Thanks for mentioning the spacing problem of the crazed key, almost purchased that, though I’m definitely getting one of the v2, any idea if they are planning on v3 early next year ?
I have no idea if they are going to do a v3 ever...but considering how they keep having indiegogo campaigns for new V2 designs I doubt they'll change it anytime soon. The new designs do have the same issues as the crazed set btw from I can tell. There was a message about that on their discord somewhere
They're completely changing the way they sell the keycaps and will no longer sell complete sets. Instead you buy the keycaps you need and are able to mix and match colors, though I don't know when that'll happen.
Not sure if it's your specific build, but the sound wasn't as good as I expected, sounded hollow and plasticy, was just about to pull the trigger on these caps. This clip changed my mind.
This is a pretty cheap keyboard with some clacky switches so it's not going to thock like a lot of the sound tests out there. I would watch other people's videos too before making up your mind. Or going to a keyboard meetup if you can and seeing if there are any there
Great vid, thanks for the review ! Did you ever experience issues about the legend on the keycaps fading or peeling off, if you ever had some keycaps with a legend on it? About your blank keycaps, isn't it hard to use without the legends? Are you used to it?
I have no ceramic keycaps with legends. The closest thing is the crazed keycaps, but those have an extra layer of...stuff on it making it feel weird. It's not that hard to use without the legends. On my daily driver I use workman instead of qwerty anyways so I'm used to the keycaps not matching what i'm typing.
How is the RGB with the colored keycaps like the black and indigo? I saw the white ones and saw how beautiful they were with the light bouncing off of them!
I don't have many rgb keyboards but I tested them on my AM AFA and the black basically doesn't let any light through. The Crazed set does, but it kind of ruins the look imo and if you're going to use backlit keys I would personally just go with white or blue
The spacebar is actually very slightly less wide than a normal spacebar. You can see what I ended up doing with my crazed set here ua-cam.com/video/zUpFx-4PpZI/v-deo.html and that there's a gap between the spacebar and the other keys
These things seem pretty heavy for keycaps, do they have the effect of making a switch feel like it needs less force to press because of that? Nice vid!
can you give your opinion on the ideal spring for these keys? especially the spacebar which is extremely heavy and wont return with some light switches.
I'm actually having a very strange time with them because I assumed I would need some heavier springs but for some reason all the boards i've tested with don't need it. Even the 35g springs on the N87 which I built here ua-cam.com/video/zUpFx-4PpZI/v-deo.html didn't need so I ordered stronger springs for nothing.
So in a nutshell they fit right and tight on the switch now? I was about to order them 10 minutes ago and accidentally bumped into your video. Not sure if to buy them fearing they will disconnect from the switches.
just now seeing this video but i recently as in a couple weeks ago got my v2 crazed color way and yes the keycaps are more rounded and took a little getting used to, the bottom row on mine doesn't have any clacking issues or anything like that, i will probably check out the v3's just out of sheer curiosity but the v2's that i recieved work pretty good with the only two keys close enough together to maybe be a problem being the left alt and windows key, and even with the lack of spacing there is no bumping or at least not a noticeable sound when pressed
Nice vid! A quick question: Do the F and J keys have a slight bump to them? I am very used to finding the homerow with these bumps and don't want to have keycaps without them.
I'm not certain because I don't have any switches with really light springs, but I did a video on a 35g Niz board with the cerakeys and was surprised to see that it worked just fine ua-cam.com/video/zUpFx-4PpZI/v-deo.html
You could always go for the crazed alphas and get like the light blue modifiers since the cerakeys are sold in a way that allows you mix and match now. You'd still have to deal with the pudgyness of the alphas but I've been using on the keyboard I built last week and have gotten used to it.
Hey Buddy, I do things with ceramics and I would like to try making my own keycaps. So I want to ask, what are your 3 biggest problems with ceramic keycaps in general, so I could try to fix them ?
DO NOT BUY THIS, ordered a set and got the product without labels, some of they keys are not straight where the ceramic meets the connector, the keys bump with the housing of the keyboard. Overall very dissatisfied with the experience. I don't recommend this product.
Sorry about that. I think I started turning the music down a bit more a few videos after that. At the time of making the video one of my priorities was to make sure that there was dead silence but I may have left the gain too high
Thanks for a great review! FYI - the crazed keycaps are pudgier because the crackle glaze needs to be layered on much thicker than clear glaze in order to get that cracked effect. Thicker layer = more cracks and better colour pay off

They were trying to help prevent the legends and pattern from fading, which is a good goal. Just wish they spent more time in the oven (pun intended)
Thanks for the great video :) I nearly bought the crazed set, but you've saved me!
I will buy the blank white set, as soon as they've restocked it.
Apparently some sets don't have this issue. Hope they restock soon. The blank whites are certainly beautiful
I think I made a good purchase, the keycaps sound so good

@@TrashBuilds Yep, I got them from the Cerakey order site. They were a little late so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

No, it's a feature that you can vote for in their discord though (I'm voting for Hiragana subtext)
Do the legends “wear off”? I’ve read a couple posts saying that their wasd was wearing down (I think they had v1)
is there a big difference between the feel and sound of the v1 and v2 with the v2 having plastic joints to them?
