When Nintendo hit the community with the new tournament guidelines, there was quite a bit of copium with people saying getting licenses is easy and that once you have it almost nothing is really different. So almost halfway through 2024, was this actually the case, or did it affect the tournament scene overwhelmingly negatively?
It was true though. Tournaments are shutting down due to a lack of money, not because of licenses being hard to get. A lot of tournaments were only afloat because of sponsorship money through the panda pipeline. Its pretty clear that gimr intentionally weaponized the information about licenses to make people like yourself falsely believe that they would be extremely difficult to attain.
Great episode this week! I love the HBOX portion, and as a person who has always rooted for people that I think the community treats unfairly. I am extremely happy that we are in an hbox redemption arc. There’s always going to be top player privilege, and HBox well deserves that. HBox pop off is always a known thing that garners a lot of interactions which is amazing for the community. Being down 0-2 in a puff ditto, I would have been extremely disappointed if he DIDNT pop off. As for the chair, it’s Hbox, we can assume that he will pay back the damages. And the TOs probably don’t mind that an all time moment just happened at their event. I loved that TK brought up the panda issue because I feel like it’s something that the smash community has always swept under the rug. I really would have loved to hear more of EE’s opinion, cosmo’s and definitely would love to hear Lights. I feel like the last time Alan was on the show, yalls kept it more neutral. As opinions are changing on that incident, I would love to hear more of it. Of course, I know yalls still have business relations to withhold so understandable that it was mostly TK speaking! At the end of the day though, there was probably nothing the smash community could have done to change that moment. If we simulated it 100 times, the result would still be the same. The community would much rather back a person who has been majorly involved in the community than a person who just recently got involved. It really sucks that this happened though, because I really do miss the PGR and things that Panda did on the side. Panda did not focus solely on tournaments and it’s sad that we lost those passion projects.

Japan finally kicked Miyas ass that was the most insane thing to me in my opinion about that tournament.

Lg might be one of the best esports team in ultimate besides the zeta division in Japan. I consider luminosity to be the second greatest team behind the zeta division and above the team of stride. The goml tournament proves it when two of the finalists were on the same team and they are a content machine with Marss making it even better at recruiting new members.
