  • An amateur mechanic replaced the reverse drive chain on this 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500HO EFI. I bought the machine. And have a high pitch whine, whirring noise. While in drive. No noise in neutral. Opened up transmission. And found these items I pointed out in the video. Notice the shiny gear teeth. It seams to be rubbing. (Part 2)

    Ours makes some sort of noise when we are in low gear when accelerating for a while it makes the sound but in high gear it’s only 15 or 5 seconds

    I ended up just replacing the whole transmission with another used one. We opened the replacement tranny, to find out that the big fly wheel that wiggles in the video. Isn't suppose to do that. It had wear marks on the teeth too, from rubbing up against the other gear.

    Did you ever figure out what happened to the transmission?

    That first thing u wiggle is a problem in many Polaris ATV. Just bought a brand new one today. And you can hear that clank every time I hit throttle and let off

      What's the actual problem? Is it something not assembled properly and correctable DIY by the owner? What's all involved? I have a '16 sportsman 570 with 39 miles that makes a clanking noise when letting off the throttle going down hill.

      Got a 17 570 and it has this clank. Read everywhere that it slack in the drive train and normal. Annoying as hell and sounds like something is about to break but i guess its safe..

    I have a 96 Polaris xplorer 300 it grinds in reverse I can't seem to find anybody that can tell me anything about it is there anyone that can help with some information on what would cause this

      See if it has a "silent chain". Its a reverse chain. My sportsman was grinding in reverse. The silent chain was stretched. The only thing that chain does is work reverse gear.

      The xplorer uses a silent chain. It actually is used in forward and reverse on this model. They always start making popping or grinding noises in reverse first then get where they do it in forward also. Actually replaced a silent chain in a Xplorer 400L last week. You can get part numbers from Cheapcycleparts.com and order parts from Ebay, Amazon or straight from Cheapcycleparts.com. They have the full microfische of the machine available. The Xplorer 300 and 400 use the exact same transmission with a 34 link chain. Run 10w40 motor oil once you rebuild the transmission not gear oil. Gear oil is too thick which causes it to sling off the chain and it stretches because of pin wear from no oil.

      @@BrandonBigB956 does this silent chain exist on a predator 500? I replace chain sprockets and drive belt and still can only crawl a little bit with no power and a crazy grinding sound coming from somewhere

      Just pulled it all appart and put it back on. No more play. It wasn't seated all the way down the shaft. The snap ring groove is to far away, the ring doesn't hold it close enough and let's it slip off the shaft

    Is this the throttle clunk sound when you go fwd or reverse. Even when u come off the throttle. Is this the sound?

    • @robinson1toby
      @robinson1toby  6 років тому +1

      Deerector, no not a clunk sound. The sound I was getting was the gear teeth grinding and causing a high pitched rubbing noise. From the rear end.
