  • We get some serious earth-moving work done when Tyler shows up with his Yanmar ViO55 excavator to help us with our off-grid mountain-top home build. Our main goal is to dig out enough soil in the crawlspace so we can level the house site and build our footer form boards. This excavator will assist in that and many other projects while we have it.

    One thing that I find amazing is that you show SO much patients when things go wrong. No head explosions.

    I’m thinking that you should name the house site Stony Point. You’ve got a lot of stones up there.

    You can turn the beeps off. You just have to hit the switch on the right control panel when you start the machine.

    Next time you use a water level, try a 5 gallon bucket on one end and use a 5/8 garden hose for the main line, and only a short length of the clear vinyl tubing. You'll find the response a lot faster (might even need to dampen it a little) and it'll be a lot less affected by temperature/evaporation. Just verify the level every day and put the bucket in EXACTLY the same place every day. I normally just leave mine set up until I know I'm done with it.

    In the really wet ground, you are better off using the excavator in grading. the CTL will just pump up the water from the ground and make it a mess

    You could use frost wedging to crack rocks this winter. Let freezing weather take the strain. Drill vertical holes fill with water before any hard freezing weather.

    As a suggestion for the next time you are removing rocks. Try probing the rock with a long steel rod to give you an idea of where you can more effectively get under it.

    you should conisder buying a laser level. you can always sell it for almost what you pay, once you are done with it.

    • @Freetheworldnow
      @Freetheworldnow Рік тому

      @@Freetheworldnow I think a couple drops of dish soap to

    Suggestion add a tape measure to side of water level so not guessing what inch is even a Taylor's cloth tape or broken tape measure or yard stick
    While not 100 percent nessary but would eliminate guessing what the actual plus or minus would be

    You certainly did a lot of work with the Yanmar. Although, I felt that some of the rocks banded together to make things more difficult.
    I imagine it would be so nice to have an excavator on the property. There is so much a machine like that could do, (sorry Ricky, but you're out gunned). What is the chance of picking up a decent used machine cheaply in your neck of the woods?
    Cheers, EJ
