I'd HIGHLY recommend the live shows too. Alot of them are on youtube in full length too so i'd imagine you should be able to use them just fine! The live shows really are great
At 12:16 Rik is holding a real news paper from that week which had a write up about a series he had done in the late 80s early 90s called “The New Statesmen” which was getting a rerun at the time.
Those letters were still written and posted. Also remember these were recorded months before airing and cleared for the BBC. Those letters would have been written by the same people who went to America on the Mayflower back in the 1800's. I have no words for how far our species has not evolved.
I was lucky enough to go see one of the live shows back in the day. It was the 3rd one, which I really enjoyed but then it's better actually being there.
That's odd, the 3rd live show Hooligans Island is my favourite. And not only because it was filmed in my home city of Bristol. There are some really funny moments, when they forget lines, break character and have uncontrolled fits of laughter. As well as a funny dialogue.
When Rik was talking about the re-run of The New Statesman in the newspaper, he was talking about a show that he starred in where he played a corrupt British government MP. You should react to those, absolutely excellent. Keep up the great work, mate.
I seen Bottom Live, An Arse Oddity, years ago, and the 'mistakes' are some of the funniest bits, but when I bought the dvd which was filmed at a different theatre, it had the exact same bits go wrong, they do wing the insults and try to genuinely make each other laugh, but some of it is scripted. Sorry if this spoils the magic for anyone, but I don't think it makes it less funny. Because they probably know the timing of when these 'mistakes' will happen, but then it gives them free reign with the insults and banter 🤷🏼♀️😂
Well they did a fews hows together the young ones, filthy rich and the catflap and there both in other films and programmes alone i still like drop dead fred. R.i.P rik mayall
Hey man it's GREAT to see an American enjoying British comedy. Check out 'Is this some kind of joke Big Train' it's only 2:40 but I think you'll like it.
I've been kept busy in the house lately, been watching your videos out of sequence lol, still got some Bottom to catch up on, but couldn't resist watching this before I've caught up. 😁💛 Edit - I saw Bottom live An Arse Oddity in 2001 in Glasgow, the mistakes are some of the funniest bits 😂
Would love to see some of the live show reactions, I was lucky enough to be in the audience for one of the your dates. Personally I love the third live show (hooligans island) it's the best followed by the first and then the second 😃
Well that he had a major role in, as in co-starred. He had a bit part (though more like an extra) in An American Werewolf in London (1981), and he had a bit part in Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets (2002). Out of all the movies to my knowledge, that he worked on. These two with Drop Dead Fred (1991) are the only ones I am aware of that were financially backed by Hollywood companies/Studios.
As a huge Bottom fan I found the live shows to be very passable and not nearly as good as the TV series. Guest House Paradiso is much better even though it is still flawed. I highly recommend the guest house paradiso fight scene though. That's is the funniest fight scene in all of Bottom.

Dennis Norden used to present a British tv show that ran for many years called “It Will Be Alright on The Night”. It was an outtake show
Thanks bud!
Great show back in the day, totally pointless in this age of DVD extras and youtube!

And when he mentions the rerun of the new statesman, that was a show he did
And you need to watch. Even though you don't like the political stuff, it's a parody. So don't know if it counts..
Probably his best work.

It was 1620 to be precise, when the Pilgrims first set sail. So, you have skipped nearly two centuries.
This is a really great show I love it!
Rik Mayall is sadly missed
Denis Norden hosted THE outtakes show, called It'll Be Alright On The Night.
Was just going to type that myself. I remember it being on every Christmas in the 80s & 90s.
God that makes me feal old

I bet those were awesome to see live.
I loved seeing the guys from the Young Ones back together 😀
Josh has such an infectious laugh ☺ I love it.
They are both in The Young Ones, another iconic show. Each episode (methinks?) also had a live band performing, some were known stars.
The New Statesman (newspaper review bit) was Rik's other sitcom on the TV at the time.
Honestly, I think that's Rik's most underrated performance.
