Convince people to stop releasing exotic pets into the wild when they get tired of them. Make people get a license and use the revenue that generates to fund removing them; i.e. a cash bounty on the iguanas. But the real issue is irresponsible people owning exotics in the first place.

I dont support a 100% ban, but I do think some restrictions have to be put in place. Dont allow breeding, make it so you have to get a permit to keep them, etc.
You don't like them hunt them, and have people apply for a license for the ones they want to keep, you could also put a limit on number of them kept per person with an aception for licensed zoos.
about any ban , its 50 years too late . if any ban should have been started it should have been before the pet trade got started . i know pet trade has been a source of income for hundreds n hundreds of years even longer many thousands of years . the main problem is when breeding these animals reptiles what ever your specialty is for exotic pets they are in a climate that they can thrive if let go free , or in floridas case a storm whiped out many breeding facilities . i think alot of mismannaged mistakes had been made over the years and well shit happens - i told ya so and many other phrases can be said for those structures releasing thousands n thousands of breeding critters that have now distroyed many native animals . its human nature to want what we cant get easy and to sell what we can find that others might want . sad thing we know the outcome in our minds but wind up thinking about greed and popularity before reality .id say too late for ban just regulate with licenses , make people take courses on husbandry before buying exotics or any other type of pet . training classes for dogs i think should be a must , there are way too many ignorant people buying animals that are out of their league and wind up as the persons pet that attacked or injured even killed someone of something . i see working dogs getting stuck in a small apartment or house with no place to roam .
i just got a baby green iguana about a week ago and i love the little guy and i feel as though the few that release there iguana is messing everything up for the one that care about them so my thought on is that owner should have to register there iguana and have to get a month inspection to make sure that they still own the iguana i dont think it is fare for people to have to get rid of there pet that they have bonded with specially those that have had them for 5 10 years that going to kill those people.
It’s important to note that the proposed bill is only banning green iguanas and the Argentine black and white tegu. Other species of iguanas and tegus can still be bred, purchased and sold. Also, people who currently own green iguanas or black and white tegus can keep their animals. Unfortunately, uneducated and ignorant owners ruined it for everyone else. Same thing happened with red eared sliders in 2007, Burmese pythons a few years ago, pit bulls in Miami-Dade county in 1989, etc. The best way to combat this is educating people before they buy these animals. People need to know what they’re getting into when they buy that 6 inch $20 iguana at Petco or that cute, quarter sized sulcata tortoise hatchling at the pet shop. Also, language was added to the bill that would allow for the capture of wild invasive species in Florida to be sold out of state. Research, research, research!! This is a difficult issue and the bill is much more than a blanket ban on iguanas.
Welp, this is exactly why "the hobby regulating itself" will never work. Green iguanas are not easy pets to keep, but I'm preaching to the choir here, I guess. Hopefully the "ban" will end in getting a license first, as we have in my country (to be allowed to keep venomous and large lizards I had to take a course and get my license). This keeps people from buying difficult species on a whim, but the hobby has also kinda collapsed and the government has no clue about reptile keeping, so you get really odd regulations. Though, is it the same as with the pythons in Florida (escaping during storms) with the iguanas?
Kinda like what was done in germany. You need a bunch of permits to sell exotic animals. Which makes them very expensive. For example an anole lizard can cost 40 bucks here. The outcome was that only people who are kinda dedicated to the hobby buy reptiles and you have less people that just get em without knowing to care for them.
@@jhu768 Even though they dont make it in the wild here, they were super cheap here 15 years age when reptiles were the ig trend. You got Bearded dragons and tokeys for ten to twenty bucks cause they were bred cheap and often sick. Also often ended up in plastic terrariums without proper lighting due to that prize (same reason goldfish end up in bowls, they are so cheap that people dont do research and when they die they die). I remember paying 25 for my iguana when he was a hatchling.

While watching this, seeing a dozen iguanas running loose in my yard. Yeah, this needs to happen. This isnt an overreach, they are an invasive and HIGHLY destructive species.
SMDoktorPepper How about introducing bigger incentives for trapping. Let’s say a dollar per pound or 3 dollars per animal. Make it a competition with prizes. Make people hunt them freely wherever and whenever. Banning them altogether for around 10 000(don’t quote me on that) kept as pets while millions are in the wild does absolutely nothing. I think banning breeding could be fine but banning keeping them as pets really doesn’t do much.
Seems reasonable to ban them. At least sale and distribution. They are huge pest problems in most communities. In some places they travel around neighborhoods in packs by the dozens. Also they pose an actual problem to our infrastructure. As you know florida and water control is a big deal. They dig around locks and dams. Also expedite erosion along canal systems as well. But again, mainly pest problems. Their impact on infrastructure is minimal so far. It is interesting though. They seem to be really well established in populated areas. When I'm in WMAs or STAs I never see them. It probably has to do with their vegetation of choice.
Well already in Florida it is illegal to release iguanas. Now you could catch one but as soon as you catch it if you release it you could be fined for it.
Welcome to the racing pigeon world guys who have owned racing pigeons and take care of them in the best was meet the rules paid for permits just to have the township or city come and take them away it’s a shame I feel for Ty and the other guys in Florida.
@Eric Pope I'm not even American and have no idea what the constitution actually is just that Americans mention it alot. But it's much easier to defend against a truck than a man with a gun, much easier.
@Eric Pope what of course you can, you ever seen those barricades they put up everywhere due to truck attacks??? They're everywhere, even basic concrete ones you must of seen
@Eric Pope well it's clear they didn't have them then isn't it, or if they did they were ineffectively used. I'm not arguing against having guns I'm against how easy it is to get hold of them.
I understand why they are outlawing iguanas as pets because in most cases in captivity they seem not to thrive will. If you compare most in captivity and the ones in the wild the difference is outrageous. So in the long run this is a good thing but right now it's really bad. They should have went about it a bit differently.
Huh? They outlaw iguanas to discourage from people releasing it and populating even more. I dont think this has anything to do with thriving in captivity vs the wild lol
It seems like reptile enthusiast do not understand the big picture in regards to the seriousness of invasive species, especially here in Florida. Banning these species is a step in the right direction in order to preserve what is left of Florida’s natural ecology. Swim in a spring here and see thousands of invasive suckermouth catfish (plecos) introduced by the pet trade, pythons in the glades once again from the pet trade. The issues our native species face is more important than your wants and I’m glad scientist are behind this legislature. All of the potential issues you discussed are human issues. I’m a huge fan of the channel by the way, just have to disagree with you on this one. Cheers!
I doubt the ban will do anything, it already too late with the invasive species because alot of these species have establish populations and some of these species ie Burmese python and Wild boar are very hard to contain and nearly impossible to get rid of. So I doubt the ban of Iguanas and tegus is not going to much.
Jacob Lewis I agree that it’s too late for many of the established species like the Burmese python, wild boar, and my least favorite that I dispatch many of when I dive, lion fish. But doing nothing is the wrong answer. It’s hard to say how effective it would be, it’s all speculation right now so speculate away but don’t ignore the data when it comes in.
True. I'm not sure how the ban would work in the end. If it works to get more data on the species and how to bring these populations atleast under control I'm fine with ban though some changes like adding licenses for tegus and Iguanas similar to how alot of venomous snakes require licenses to own which are renewed every year or so.
Ok, they say they are invasive BUT who says a lot of other animals weren't that way many years ago. Like horses for instance.. they say native American ppl didn't have them until the Spanish came and brought them. My take is they are here.. deal with it! It's not fair to punish a whole bunch of people that weren't responsible for obviously letting them go long ago. I don't agree with any of this!! I lived in Florida purchased my very first green iguana way back in 90 and by the way the nicest, coolest lizard ever! But when I moved back to Tennessee he came with me. I really thought about moving back to Florida someday soon but iguanas aren't the biggest obstacles it's the fact Cali is literally bussing homeless ppl across the country to Fl. A bunch of lizards aren't going to harm you, but ppl yes they will! So the Gov down there needs to back off the reptile kingdom and seriously look at the human kingdom if they want to fix an issue. Iguanas are all over the islands and people still live there and go there. Ice already sent letters and I'll be sending more!
It would be a great idea that they collect all the iguanas from breeders and send them back to their native habitats like Mexico and Central America where their numbers are getting low. 🤷🏻♂️ I don’t know anything but I hope they don’t let all this creatures die 😩
i understand your concern as i am concerned with banning pitbulls, when any breed that would get a popular with people that are not understanding the needs of caring for a breed could also become big in attacking , while most attacks by any dog almost always is the owners fault ,. Iguanas are also taken by irresponsible owners and the reptile is encroaching on other animals. i think you are wrong if they are kept correct i don't think they would be taken, tegus are very aggressive , the red brought in pet shop was brought in by red tego holing a chain by mouth, nasty biters. i love my diamond back turtles i bought from china town food market, i have had a set up that had an entire tank with sand bar for basking and i mad a wire mesh and wood around top of cage about 8 inches high so sand bar would be around top lip of tank and turtles had fresh air and a full tank and no rocks and a pool pump in water and a jar home made filter, to clean water is bad for turtless, it should look clean and fed in seperate rubber made rectangukar water holding cartons and wait till they crap and use it for plant watering, to much bio cleaning is bad and will kill turtles , never use a diatom , if you do once in a while anddont leave it on for too long and replace half with regular water that has been in a rubbermaid garbage can for 48 hours. i learned the hardway, and lost my first 2 tortles from a bone like growth in mouth and vet called it canker

What would a very ornery tortoise do if you were trying to mess with them like you did with the ones here? Do they bite often? Whats an angry tortoise like?
“I ❤️ TY!”
Oh man those brown and black tortoises are cute!!!! Thanks for the info
Convince people to stop releasing exotic pets into the wild when they get tired of them. Make people get a license and use the revenue that generates to fund removing them; i.e. a cash bounty on the iguanas. But the real issue is irresponsible people owning exotics in the first place.
look people I don't understand how Mr King kenan can have over 8000 views and only have 700 likes hes inspirational
I really hope this will pass this is a shame these poor baby's it's so not fair to them as an owner to iguanias I have 2. That I love with all my heart I hope this all pans out. People buy iguanas an then realize there alt rook an need allot of attention an then decided they don't want them anymore so they dump them an then people kill them an. Eat them Ann so on which is really sad my heart goes out for these animals what a shame very sad so now they will suffer like Steve said what happens wen no one takes them an then the owner that's selling them don't want them an decide nit io feed them an even uthinize them very very sad so here we are only the animal will suffer in this situation so so sad an the tutus very sad I hope this will not go trew that's all I can say.
I dont support a 100% ban, but I do think some restrictions have to be put in place. Dont allow breeding, make it so you have to get a permit to keep them, etc.
Kenan reminds me that I need to go fondle my sweaters
Ty - you should run for President!!!
You don't like them hunt them, and have people apply for a license for the ones they want to keep, you could also put a limit on number of them kept per person with an aception for licensed zoos.
I think if you own one should have them chipped that if they get out they came be tracked
does the sunshade let uvb go through for the tortoises?
I would assume it does partially
Yes it's just a very fine mesh screen
about any ban , its 50 years too late . if any ban should have been started it should have been before the pet trade got started . i know pet trade has been a source of income for hundreds n hundreds of years even longer many thousands of years . the main problem is when breeding these animals reptiles what ever your specialty is for exotic pets they are in a climate that they can thrive if let go free , or in floridas case a storm whiped out many breeding facilities . i think alot of mismannaged mistakes had been made over the years and well shit happens - i told ya so and many other phrases can be said for those structures releasing thousands n thousands of breeding critters that have now distroyed many native animals . its human nature to want what we cant get easy and to sell what we can find that others might want . sad thing we know the outcome in our minds but wind up thinking about greed and popularity before reality .id say too late for ban just regulate with licenses , make people take courses on husbandry before buying exotics or any other type of pet . training classes for dogs i think should be a must , there are way too many ignorant people buying animals that are out of their league and wind up as the persons pet that attacked or injured even killed someone of something . i see working dogs getting stuck in a small apartment or house with no place to roam .
i just got a baby green iguana about a week ago and i love the little guy and i feel as though the few that release there iguana is messing everything up for the one that care about them so my thought on is that owner should have to register there iguana and have to get a month inspection to make sure that they still own the iguana i dont think it is fare for people to have to get rid of there pet that they have bonded with specially those that have had them for 5 10 years that going to kill those people.
So I'm not allowed to catch them? They're protected or somesthing? ;)
I'll go outside and tell those two dozen green iguanas to get out of my yard.
They didn't get the memo
Start a petition all ur fans can sign to help stop this ban it will do no good for the animals
@@Iguana5k well in Europe those animals wouldn't survive in the wild so it a different situation. And 40 for a lizard that's great.
@@Iguana5k damn that is cheap
I don’t remember seeing black mt tortoises before. They seem really gentle. I’ve gotta look those up and read about um 👍🏻
I think who have these animals should be aloud to keep them even if it's a ban not fare on the animals x
I agree with you kean about the band
America needs to get a ban on Australian kookaburras I have seen them over in US stores be themselves with no friends and people have a single one in there cage WE AS AUSTRALIANS are not allowed to own kookaburras they don't like being pets they don't like hanging with people they need to be in a group yet people in America buy them and keep them solo which is super mean
They have wild kooks living in South Florida.
@@65FullMoon83 never heard them called that before
@@JamieS1992 Just short for Kookaburra. I heard them & didn't see them but was told that's what they were. Probably escapees, I guess? Crazy sounding birds.
@@65FullMoon83 yeah I gathered it was a shortened version but over here we say burra for short kook is weird
@@JamieS1992 OK so it's weird. It is a strange bird. An exotic interesting one at that.
this may be a stupid question but can all reptiles swim to a certain extent
Aidan sheil I’m not the man to properly answer this, but tortoises don’t swim right? Other than that, I can’t think of any
@@mrzjohnson4 Yeah.... tortoises are the only species of reptile I think don't swim. I've never seen one swim.
Some species do tortoise can effectively float. It’s one way that tortoises end up on islands
Something like a horsfields definitely can't swim.
Please make a feeding tour video at TY’s place 👌
Do you answer questions from people who are not patreon supporters?
what is the name of the tune at the beginning of this video
Laura Morris I have been trying to figure that out myself !
@@DMVLivinn he needs to put the names of the tunes in the description x
I had a little lake turtle when I was 11. Loved it. Mom sat it outside in a bucket to clean the tank and forgot about it. We had a HORRIBLE raccoon problem and…yup. Turtle went bye bye ☹️
Makes me smile each time when Kenan calls the Monstera deliciosa a Monstrosa 😂
By the way the fruits of "monstrosa" are edible haha :)
We are trying to reach you and ask for help for weeks. Also TY (Iguanaland) you guys are responding to this ban issue now? We are fighting for weeks but better late than never I guess 🤷♀️
i think if somebody in Florida is rounding them up so people can learn about hem and how they are invasive the law should not effect them. but it might
Its not just losing animals it is the fact that u lose a family income as well
how many people breed them for profit? i am ok with a few breeders losing out.
i honestly thought it was in force already its a bit late ...... they are everywhere already no new ban should effect people who already own them im kinda lucky im in the uk they cant live here most the year
for some reason i misread the title as " Iguana Band in Florida" i was so confused lmao
While watching this, seeing a dozen iguanas running loose in my yard. Yeah, this needs to happen. This isnt an overreach, they are an invasive and HIGHLY destructive species.
SMDoktorPepper
How about introducing bigger incentives for trapping.
@@CroatiaSurvival simple. We have that already for pythons and guess what doesnt work?
@Eric Pope obviously they ARE releasing them as there are MILLIONS of them running around. People are stupid, no matter what type of pet they like.
@Eric Pope and no, Texas STILL has huge hog problems.
Agreed
Seems reasonable to ban them. At least sale and distribution. They are huge pest problems in most communities. In some places they travel around neighborhoods in packs by the dozens. Also they pose an actual problem to our infrastructure. As you know florida and water control is a big deal. They dig around locks and dams. Also expedite erosion along canal systems as well. But again, mainly pest problems. Their impact on infrastructure is minimal so far. It is interesting though. They seem to be really well established in populated areas. When I'm in WMAs or STAs I never see them. It probably has to do with their vegetation of choice.
Very cool! It is coming to be amazing!
Hi ty park and kean
Manouria isn't monotypic. Contains M. emys, and M.impressa if taxonomy hasn't been changed
You’re correct! I forgot Impressa!
Bans dont work. Look at prohibition, pot laws ect.
Well already in Florida it is illegal to release iguanas. Now you could catch one but as soon as you catch it if you release it you could be fined for it.
I want to have an iguana. Would you give me one, please
This Ban is a Scam. This sucks. Especially when I've been looking to get one soon.
Tbh I am behind this law it is a great idea no breeding no importing but if you already own one your safe
Man you and ty park are lucky to have reptiles out side
Can’t wait to release my adult iguana into my local legislative office 😊enjoy
Welcome to the racing pigeon world guys who have owned racing pigeons and take care of them in the best was meet the rules paid for permits just to have the township or city come and take them away it’s a shame I feel for Ty and the other guys in Florida.
272 comment you rock Kamp kenan Love the videos bro 💪💯
The breeders should move to South Texas. Almost the exact same climate just with less rain. Freezes are rare.
That hair line 😆
Iguana Ban : exist Florida
Human Ban : exist corrona
(Whispering) 911. I think my neighbor has a lizard
Not sure a ban is really the proper response maybe put a bounty on them
@Eric Pope until one person kills loads of people
@Eric Pope there's a difference between a truck and a gun. I will let you think about those differences because I can't be asked to point then out.
Nice video
In my opinion of you’re keeping Iguanas in Florida....tell the Govt to F*** OFF, they’re not touching your property.
Hi you.I love reptiles i can give me a iguana?. Because I am a poor student, I cannot buy it
I understand why they are outlawing iguanas as pets because in most cases in captivity they seem not to thrive will.
But who are we to tell them where they can and can’t live
I am looking for a grown iguana for a friend of my she had one he died so she looking one again can you help me fine on
The iguana land should be for people to rehome their pet there after the law passes
Wouldn't Burmese pythons be more of an issue in Florida than Iguanas
Jacob Lewis agreed!
Ban feral cats
Hope they'll still let you eat them.. they didn't ban em from the menu too, did they?
Why isn’t the government this concerned over Burmese Pythons? Such tone deaf stupidity. You can do better, Florida
Mr. Slaughter Burmese are already a banned species in Florida soooooo.
Catch n cook. I dont want to sound crass but thats food crawling around out there.
Javier Fernandez bad idea unless you want a chance for something like coronial viruses cousin coming again
@@nou1438 iguana meat is fine. A little honey and soy sauce can go a long way. ;)
i understand your concern as i am concerned with banning pitbulls, when any breed that would get a popular with people that are not understanding the needs of caring for a breed could also become big in attacking , while most attacks by any dog almost always is the owners fault ,.
Iguana bits
People like you are great whit how ye look after ye pets hopefully ye get perments but the ban should pass.. Just look at the vids that have people abandoning pets at wallmart and petco car parks... It is to eazy for bad pet onwers to get these animals... There is another UA-camr asking people to right laters to there senitters... Was wondering could ask people not to...
