    As a child and budding guitarist, I was given one as a gift. It was brand new, and apparently, purchased for a very reasonable price at the time. I still own it and it looks like new. It runs the original tubes and sounds wonderful.

    Just bought one off the shop floor, like new, new capacitors, tubes, etc. Even had a new cable installed, no foot switch, $280. I cannot believe how absolutely loud this thing gets. I worry I might get evicted playing through it. What a great value for $ amp.

    My 1st new tube amp when I was a kid was a Super 60. It had a extension speaker output jack. I sat it on top of a Fender Wedge 4x12 cab and ran them together. 60wts x 5 12" speakers. I used an original made in England Marshall Guv'nor pedal. (Big box version) and a 1990 Les Paul 60s classic gold top 👌 - I was 18-19 at the time. I had tonez for DAYZ!

    I bought a super 60 rack to pair with a Classic Series Peavey 50/50 poweramp; Super easy w/d/w rig. Nickleback used these as touring amps for their cleans. Not a Nickleback fan myself, but they probably know a thing or two about tone and durability.

    I have had the Fender Super 210 amp since 1991. Still all original. Same 60 watt design as this, except it has two 10” speakers. Great amp! Does awesome Fender cleans, gets crunchy when pushed, or you can go full distortion on the dirty channel. An attenuator is a useful help when you want to push the tubes, but not the neighbors. It can get very loud! I was glad I was glad when I got it, and I’m still happy to play it now! Now, if only I still had my Marshall Silver Jubilee combo…

    I’ve saw those around for great prices for years but never paid much attention. I think I’ll start paying more attention now though. I’ve always loved the red knob Twin amp, they’re very underrated too, I started paying attention to them after seeing Robben Ford using one, they’re heavy but great sounding.

    I had a Fender super 210 (same amp except 210 instead of 1x12) that I got for $200. I put in a couple Eminence Ragin Cajun speakers in it along with a full set of JJ tubes and it was definitely one of the best sounding amps I ever had. Clean channel is all Fender all day and the drive channel is very very good in it. Here and Canada we call it a sleeper amp because most people don't know about it or even know how good it sounds. I ended up trading mine because it was too heavy :) but I wish I had it back now. I love all the Red Knob amps from Fender. The only reason I don't have all of them is that they are stupid heavy to carry around.

  • @TheBlamalam
    @TheBlamalam 2 роки тому +1

    I had one for a couple of years. The trick to them (at least for me) was to ignore the clean channel completely and to instead only use the gain channel, turning the gain down for clean sounds. Fender measured the 60W output through the gain channel; the clean was maybe half of that at best. Mine got incredibly noisy--I know now that it was due to failing caps--and I sold it for next to nothing.

    All these red knob tube Fenders from the 80s are great for clean and crunchy tones. Played a number of them at gigs and they just provide a very solid foundation. Their only drawback is that they’re really heavy… but that’s what you get with tube amps anyway, so.

  • @Schlumpf.Meister

    The real deal would be a Champ 12 from the red knob series as it marks a similar starting point for Fender as did the model 26, because the Ch12 was the first new amp after the Fender buy-out. The whole red knob series seems heavily underrated. We have a backup super 112 in our rehearsal space that nobody cares about and yet it permanently being used with no complaints, which speaks for it‘s qualities. I see 2 problems with this series: 1. It had to be all, the great fender cleans and the Boogie sound, and that proved to be very difficult at the day, often times it meant a compromise on the gain side. 2. Cost was a very serious concern at the time, so they are designed with heavy emphasis on component reuse. All of the red knob series amps utilize very few tubes, but highly complex routing. It makes them very sensitive to part parameter variation with effects like crossover talk from channel to channel and the like. With the red knob series selection is pivotal as there are good ones and not so good ones, more so as with other models. My Ch12 had the most flimsy cables for internal routing I have ever seen, and the reverb pan was housed in cardboard material. The legend says the amps got red knobs because these were the least expensive. So much about cost focus.

      i like the champ12 , but the clean is so quiet its only any use for practicing. ive changed the speaker for something more efficent , which is better but ive probably changed the sound in the process .

    • @Schlumpf.Meister
      @Schlumpf.Meister 3 роки тому

      @@wrongchordsrecords True, as it was ment to stay clean all the way up and the lead channel was ment to sound like a Boogie, which hasn't worked out on either count. I applied the Effectrode Mod which is basically a blackface adjustment to the normal channel, I also tweaked the lead channel to clear it further up (less gain, less treble attenuation). That turned out really nice. I had swapped the speaker with a G12H100 which turned out useless, the amp simply has no bass due to the small housing, reglardless of which speaker is in so I kept the stock speaker which works well. Every then and now I shed a few tears missing the Ch12, but there is no point in having more and mnore amps collecting dust in my attic.

    I’ve had two that I purchased when I was very young in the 80’s. I don’t regret selling mine. They were not reliable for gigging. And although the clean channel was pure Fender, the overdrive channel was horrible. I just used them as a clean amp with a tube screamer. Heavy as hell, not much bottom end, so on. There are many many better amps out there for the same money.
    Just my experience and opinion, but I’d go with a used Marshall DSL40 watt combo or a used Hot Rod Deluxe amp for about the same money.

      Put a late 80s early 90s RAT in front of it, with a low "distortion" setting, and use the volume on hte RAT to run the Super 60 out of front end headroom on the "lead" channel. You'll be surprised how much it tightens up and where it goes.

    This amp sounds good but is a pain in the ass to work on, especially if you're diagnosing strange noises or unintuitive malfunctions. Circuit board is placed in a way that doesn't evacuate heat at all, and the components are on the underside of the board so you got to take it out to see if something's burned out and to do so you need to remove all of the tubes, the very delicate easy to break rear jacks, flimsy speaker connections, the transformer wires which are a pain to remove and if I remember correctly, also the potentiometer board. Just to take a look at the components. It's just totally backwards in every sense and a terribly designed, not that well built, unreliable amp. It's also much heavier than it has any right to be. Just get a Hot Rod Deluxe or whatever fender copy with 6L6's you can snatch used for the same or less.

    It’s a Super, it has reverb……I wonder it would compare to a ‘65 reissue super reverb if you plugged it into a 4x10 cabinet? I think the red knob 4x10 of this era had the same wattage and was called a Concert ii

    • @Schlumpf.Meister
      @Schlumpf.Meister 3 роки тому +2

      The Concert II is a few years older, it was a Rivera CBS design, still p2p. The red knob series is PCB Design, and at the time Rivera was gone, he was part of the wrong team at the buy-out. Though the Super 60 is certainly a cool amp, is has very little in common with a Super Reverb.
