I’m just hypnotized by the voice , I can’t stop watching and describe the feeling. I lost my father exactly one year ago and I regret not spending time with him being far away and not being close to him in any way . I will always carry this pain with me . Watching now you talking about your life decisions and your father made me cry and I don’t think I’m watching this video accidentally. Nothing happens by coincidence

:3 Shi Heng Yi explained how he feels Asian dads have a different vibe than others. Even if Shi was around his dad, and clearly disagreed with him, he wouldn't even hint that he disagreed, out of respect.
He then laughed about it, since his dad has passed, and that was in the past. He had a lot of tension with his parents, but he stayed by his dad in his last year by living in Germany with him. I have heard by plenty of Asians how strict and backwards this idea can be to not question authority and how beatings done in normal parenting have counterproductive effects.

Same here. I didn’t see my mother for years then she passed away unexpectedly and I was Too sick to get on a plane. So I carried so much pain and regret but I decided after getting sicker because of the emotional stress I was causing myself, I decided to let go of the guilt and allow my mother’s memory to be celebrated instead of the regret. I began to celebrate her memory daily. Master Shi taught a very valuable lesson today which I gather applies to letting go of pain and bad energy in order to continue your life journey unblocked.
Not to say there won’t be road blocks incoming, I’m just saying it frees you when you let go of pain. I hope the best for you. I wish you love and happiness.😊

As a former foster child, I am thankful to have had the opportunity to live a stable and overall happy childhood. It prepared me with the virtues to live thankfully, graciously, and sensitively toward others. I am now in my 50s, and I have always had a strong inner discipline and inner- affinity for the Eastern practice. I am thankful now for hearing your story, Master Yi.

Dear Shifu Shi Heng Yi, I couldnt help to comment on this particular talk because I could relate several topics you touched on, especially respecting elders. I have so much to say but would like to share my story and keep it short. I am now living in San Francisco, California. I am Vietnamese Chinese and settled in the US as refugee in the early teen in the 80's. I am the oldest child of 5 and would say I am probably the same generation as your parents. I was my parents right-hand child since I was a kid and was conditioned to respect elders. I have been blessed with many things including family, good family value, good education, meaningful career and Buddhist teaching. Looking back in my life, I lived through some major life changing events including the war, my parents passing before I was able to pay them back, my health, and 2 suicides (my youngest brother and my son). The most devastating moment in my life was my 14 years old boy suicide that happened few years ago. My soul was left broken in pieces that I did not know how to pick them up and carry on. One of the most impactful healing channels was the Buddhist teaching and prayers. From there, I grieved and found myself growth. I also found your teaching through Ted Talk and had followed most of your UA-cams and read your newsletters since. I found them healing and soul soothing. It helped me tremendously to understand how human life works. Although I have so much to learn. I can say I am very content today. I will continue this path and I am looking forward to absorb your wisdom and teaching. Side note, I was in Berlin once for a scientific conference and hope I can visit your monastery and attend the retreat one day. Until then I wish you and the Shaolin Temple Europe well. Amitofo.

I hope that in the times when your feeling weighed down by different things that you may not only have those you can reach out to , techniques you can apply and the universal embrace of Divine Love to comfort and stregthen you.

  • @willowgreentree1874
    @willowgreentree1874 Рік тому +2

One of the things he talks about is someone coming to the temple and asking him,
"How do I forgive my parents?"
He explained that he did not have an answer because he understood and appreciated the lessons his parents taught him. Even the ones taught with a bamboo stick.
I have some wisdom- that admittedly is not my own. It was taught to me by my mother.
You don't forgive for their sake. You forgive for yours. In forgiving someone you, let go of the negative emotions that are attached to their transgression. The anger, fear, sadness, and anxiety, will fester inside you. That only hurts you- not them. It accomplishes nothing but prolong the suffering. Forgiveness is a step on the way to healing, learning, and growing.
Life is a learning experience. That is it's only true purpose. If you are evolving you are succeeding.
    Humbly submitted.

Honour and respect are the fundamental principles of anyone who wishes to learn and grow. As you saw something in your new master, so we saw something in you and people here wanted to ask you to be our master in the same way. The ancestors had and do have wisdom and skills obtained over their lifetimes and similarly their ancestors imparted knowledge to them gained over many lifetimes - this is something that is invaluable to keep the martial art form pure and unadulterated. Any person who criticises the way something is being taught fails to grasp this concept. I am honoured to grow with you and in turn to watch you grow in the path of your master and ultimately my master also. Thank you 🙏 for this opportunity - I had just made some Matcha Tea as the notification came up of your video this evening, which was so perfectly timed. It is beautiful to share this peaceful time together and gain a deeper insight into the Shaolin way, many many blessings 🙏 Shifu Shi Heng Yi.

I tried to get recognition from my dad all my living life time to no avail ,but never stopped loving him ! When he was in his last days of cancer . There was a car show, which he loved to see. I put him in a wheelchair and spent most of the day looking at cars. Afterward, on the way to the hospital, he sent me into a corner store to buy him two chocolate bars. When I gave him the chocolate bars, he gave me one. I told him I couldn't eat chocolate! Suprised, he said he always sent me chocolate for Christmas gift. Why haven't you ever told me that you can't eat chocolate? I said "yes and the family loved getting chocolate. I'm always thankful for the gift. That is when he stood up and gave me a hug saying "he loved me" I waited 52 years to hear those three words. He died the next morning. Rip.

Thank you for this immeasurably beneficial and kind compassionate talk and teaching. I understand. I will honour your instructions and am infinitely grateful that you have accepted us as your students in this setting, and even more that you are taking such time and effort to lay out the rules and explain these core concepts and principles in a way that we can understand and follow.
I will Practice More as you have instructed until you return. And also study the essence of Chan and Zen Buddhism as you have instructed.
I feel the gravity of the master-student you have accepted and how seriously you take your responsibilities. I promise to respect and honour this blessing you have bestowed on us also. And I am filled with particular joy at having been accepted into this ancient and beautiful tradition by yourself, albeit in this unconventional online format . I look forward to the next Tea Talk and trainings. This change that you have instigated is what I have been searching for, for such a long time. I am so grateful to you, words are inadequate to express how much the teachings you share and your clear compassion and care for us all, mean to me and benefit me and my loved ones.
May your training and retreat run impeccably well and may you know the joy of success as you immerse yourself further into new depths of mastery.

Habla en sus videos de bondad, de paz, de no agresión, que considero todo muy sincero. Por eso su decisión es para mí, incomprensible. ¿Sinceramente? Change removes stagnation and allows stimulation, inspiration and aspiration. Shi Heng Yi, you have been remarkably courageous in the way that you have lived your life - on your own terms. As our shifu, our teacher, our father, you have earned our deepest respect and oneness the moment we began to practice with your videos and listen to your talks and interviews. I love these tea talks as you express your inmost feelings, intentions and wisdom. This was very thought-provoking..
It hit home for me... It was nice for you to share some of your personal life Shifu... My condolences to you and your family for the loss of your father.. I lost my mother to cancer as well... Forgiveness is especially hard when it comes to family... Growing up wasn't the easiest for me either..
I have always admired the martial arts one being of the respect that is learned and earned... I had to smile when you spoke of your youth and not being the easiest to deal with.. but you had enough of intuitiveness and strong mindfulness to choose and to know where your path lies☝🏻... That's admirable if you ask me ..
This stagnation you speak of... I know this... stagnation = death.. I am quite familiar with this term... I am 100% behind you Master Shi Heng Yi for whatever decisions you make for moving your life forward.... With all due respect to Grandmaster Jiang Yu Shan I would not be at all surprised if he learns a couple things from you too Shifu...

“And because I built it up, I can build it up again” and yes, life 🌀 is just like that. We rise, we may fall, and we will rise again! Growth is change and much respect for that.
On another note: (unrelated to any of the teachings but more so the asian culture itself)
As an asian woman, I totally understand the hierarchy and family face and I can respect the tradition. Growing up I bit my tongue and played small so that others would feel comfortable in their superiority and let their ego stroke. In that dysfunct, I left that community to find myself healing for years from the traumas it brought me. Of course now I understand that in life we were placed in these situations in order to build ourselves up. Sometimes it takes standing up for your truth to make a change though. If I were my ancestors, I would respect that too.

I have found, like you, that enduring hardship "builds character" and makes you a better person. The shaolin lifestyle teaches you how to grow from such adversities, at least as my current understanding goes.

I applaud you for taking this frontline approach in bringing more light to these topics via these platforms..Very new age we live in, and I support what you have begun.
I appreciate you sharing all you have, about your family especially. Much love and respect 🙏

Dear Shifu Shi Heng Yi, I thank you for considering us part of the Shaolin community and reminding us what it means to be part of this community. Words are not enough to express all my gratitude for everything you have taught us so far and for the positive changes you have brought to our lives. All I can say is that your father would be very proud of you - may his soul be blessed. For the rest, I will honor your teaching by practicing every day. Wishing you an enriching journey in this new period of your life. Truly committed, Myriam.

Dear teacher, everything you do for all of us is noble and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was born in Serbia and I know what you are talking about. In my country, older people are also respected, starting with father and mother ... grandparents ..... and the family tree is known. It is inconceivable that a man in life strives for a goal ... and to be successful, if there is no peace in the soul. If we are in a quarrel with someone, especially with our parents, then we do not even have the blessing for the right path in our lives. I love China for many reasons. I also understand what you want to tell us with this video. Greetings to you Shi Heng Yi

    Greetings "Shifu"! 😇
I am former Navy, now a retired Chaplain in GOD's Special Forces... I learned the wonderful art of Wah-Lum Kung Fu from a sixth generation Grand master who became my Sifu at a Wah-Lum Temple he built in Orlando Florida and it was like I was magically transformed to China. I haven't been practicing as actively as I would like to because of deteriorating arthritis in my hip joints and lower back, but I still practice Tai-Chi which is alot more lower impact on my joints...so I've been following your teachings and Tea Talks...very refreshing to experience the non-diluted sacred teachings of a true master and yet love the clarifying ways you explain your concepts of wisdom with such humility. Thank you so much...appreciate you and your teachings and getting much health benefits from practicing your breathing and strength exercises and stretches. Thank you and GOD bless you and keep utilizing you mightily. Will be praying for you...in 2022 and the monks and students at your sacred Shaolin Temple.

Much gratitude and Respect Shifu🙏🏼. Your videos introduced me to Qi Gong during the challenging months of heavy lockdown. Ive been practicing since, learning the routines, following your online videos and listening to your guidance, although videos are the tip of a beautiful and deep iceberg of teachings, practicing them has been beneficial to increase my mental and physical self awareness, I’ve started to notice some of my own reactions and thoughts more carefully, which helps me on the ( long 😄) journey of becoming a better and happier human being.
In addition, I recently had the opportunity to join a Fang Song Gong Qi Gong retreat at the monastery with Shifu Shi Heng Zuan 🙏🏼 a daily practice that makes me feel calmer and more centred, watching your ted talk and videos has lead me here, and I’m so happy and thankful for that 🙏🏼. You have reached the hearts and minds of many, it’s for each of us to make the commitment to ourselves and find ways to put this wonderful teachings into practice♥️. Much gratitude and respect to you , to Shifu Shi Heng Zuan and to everyone at the Shaolin Temple Europe for welcoming us so warmly and kindly 🙏🏼

Master Shi Heng Yi, listening to you talk makes me feel very reassured, as you have a very calm, stable presence. Thank you for the valuable content that you release for free.
I am a Westerner but have been living in Japan for several years, so I am familiar with the importance of respect and hierarchy.
However, this concept is very difficult for me to follow personally, especially when it comes to my father. He is a very angry, verbally abusive person who does not treat people with respect. In the past, he has done many horrible things to hurt my other family members, which makes it difficult for me to feel close with him. When I visit him, I feel suffocated, I feel like I have to pretend to agree with the ill ways he speaks about others, his racist ways of thinking, etc.
I understand he is still my father, but it may be impossible for me to respect him.
Maybe working on forgiveness is the first step. It's a struggle.

I understand how horrible being stagnant can be. When life holds routine but no inspiration or purpose, it’s absolutely crippling. So, I understand your search. I’m new to this channel and have no idea what it means that you’ve received a new master and how that impacts what you do now, but I wish you peace and clarity on that journey. I just recently came out of a stagnant funk myself and am so full of joy at having a new motivation, even if it is something small.

Although the difference of practicing raw and online is incomparable, you don't get an idea of the great change you are making by sharing these teachings. There are many seekers in the west. I look forward to a deeper understanding to integrate these practices. I am extremely grateful to have met you. I hope one day to be your disciple there in Europe.

I am glad to have another tea talk from you, Shi Zheng Yi. They are helpful. I’ve had many teachers in Qigong etc in my life. Something was missing. I enjoy that you explain where the breath goes and why. I looked up Jiang Huo Shan. His life has been dedicated to so many aspects of Chinese arts. I’ve been incapacitated for 3 weeks now but with a change in diet, some of the easier routines you post, and your motivation, I am helped greatly. I can only do about an hour a day presently but I walked 4 miles today, which is a kind of miracle. I worked through the pain, enjoying nature and the waterbody, forgetting what I thought I couldn’t do. When this illness began it was like being hit hard, knocked down. My life came to a halt. I lost 15 pounds because I could not eat. Luckily I had TCM style both that I could sip after 4 days. Slowly I built up strength forcing myself to make shiitake soup. Your posts encouraged me to be strong. While down, I thought about my family. Your talk today enlightened all that. I’ve been able to disregard issues that were problems with other people around me now. Shaolin Temple presents a comprehensive way of life. You are an important spokesperson and role model. Many thanks for all the videos.

    Shifu,
This was a great sharing of wisdom and reflections on the meaning of the Shifu concept. My deepest condolences on your father's passing (my father also passed away due to cancer in 2013).
Even though I am new to Grandmaster Jiang Yu Shan and am aware of his breadth of experience, as I keep listening to his teachings I keep feeling that sensation I get when I am impressed by the precise and specific wisdom I am witnessing someone share (especially as it blends in with other valuable lessons and concepts I have learned and found very useful through yoga and other spiritual disciplines). I have had that feeling of being impressed and filled with respect towards you and also towards Grandmaster Jiang Yu Shan. I am excited at this opportunity you have ahead of you and wish you the best of growth in all areas.
Sincere thanks and respect for all you do and share with us!
