The "old man" is Carl Reiner, father of actor/director Rob Reiner. He and Mel Brooks were a comedy duo and released recordings in the '60s of "The 2000 Year Old Man". He also played the character Alan Brady on the old Dick VanDyke show.
Elliott Gould, besides being Monica's dad on Friends, played Trapper John McIntyre in the 1970 movie version of M*A*S*H.

Personally, I find 12 the most entertaining. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm a film fan, so it being a deliberate European film semi-tribute really makes it so much funnier.

29:48 the batteries for the “detonator” actually were dead. This little scene wasn’t in the script. George Clooney and Matt Damon improvised their lines. The batteries were actually used to power the little lights on a the “detonator”.

Saul (the old guy who faked the heart attack) was played by the legendary Carl Reiner, comedy writer and actor, executive producer on many comedy series such as the Dick Van Dyke show (he also played Rob Petrie's boss), best friend of Mel Brooks and comedy partner of Mel's going way back, including their famous bit, the 10,000 year old man. He is also
    Rob Reiner's dad.
Also a writer, actor, director, and producer, Rob Reiner played, among other things, Meathead on All in the Family and the documentarian in This Is Spinal Tap. He directed the latter as well as Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and more.

Won the Best Picture Oscar. It was the first grown-up (as opposed to kids or family) film I ever saw, at the movie theater with my family when I was seven. I was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois, so when the film opened with the date/place card saying it was 1936 Joliet, well, I don’t think I have ever heard a movie theater crowd just erupt in cheers like that, before or since! That film left me with a lifelong love of ragtime, grifter films, and Robert Redford.
BTW, the film was only made the one time. There was a sequel with Mac Davis and I believe Jackie Gleason. I never saw it.

Brad Pitt is always eating in this film. Did you notice. 😂😂 You should see King of Thieves. It’s a gold heist movie based on a true story, the Hatton Garden heist in London, carried out by a gang of old aged robbers. Cast is excellent. Legendary old English actors in the cast including Michael Caine who was in The Italian Job in the 60’s and was on his 80’s when he made this. I know you do US movies but there are some great foreign films. Maybe watch it personally with your kids?

I love Ocean’s 11 so much! I got my mom to watch it a few years ago and she finally understood why I like it. If you ever watch the movie The Intern, there is a scene where they go on a “mission” and one of them comments how it’s like Ocean’s 11 and the music playing over the scene is music from this movie. Such a fun little moment.

Some forms of slang use rhyming to get the slang term. Basher (played by Don Cheadle) would be speaking Cockney, which is the most famous examples of rhyming slang
However, the idea that Barney means trouble because of "Barney Rubble" is incorrect because the slang term goes back to the 19th century, while Barney Rubble wasn't invented until the middle of the 20th.

    Trivia for "Ocean's Eleven" -
    - Released in 2001; directed by Steven Soderbergh; written by Ted Griffin; based on the 1960 film on the same name.
    - In the poker scene, when Brad Pitt's character Rusty tries to teach them, it's five TV actors doing cameos as themselves: Holly Marie Combs (Charmed), Topher Grace (That '70s Show), Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek), Barry Watson (Seventh Heaven), and Shane West (Once and Again).
    - Johnny Depp, who was Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, was considered for the role of Linus Caldwell (the Matt Damon role), and real-life brothers Luke and Owen Wilson (the leads in Old School and Marley & Me) were in consideration for the mechanic twins, the Malloys; the Wilson brothers were forced to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. Also turning down the role due to scheduling conflicts was Bruce Willis, originally cast as Danny Ocean.
    - The Bellagio let the crew tap into their security system to get real footage of the casino. Producer Jerry Weintraub was friends with the owner, Kirk Kerkorian.
    - Andy Garcia (Terry Benedict) had a hard time doing scenes with Carl Reiner (Saul), because Reiner was always cracking jokes and making Garcia laugh so hard.
    - The cast did gamble in between takes. Reportedly, George Clooney lost 25 hands of blackjack in a row.
    - There's a scene in the trailer where Danny Ocean asks the parole board how much many they make per year; it didn't make the final cut because Ocean would have been denied parole if he asked that.
    - Steven Soderbergh originally wanted to shoot the film in black-and-white.

Though you didn't mention it (maybe due to editing) but as Vasher is watching the casino demolition on TV, its happening right out his picture window. All he had to do was turn around. Regarding the EMP, you mention the book "One Second Later". The USSR had just such a plane and weapon. It would launched well ahead of time, mimicking the the orbit of LEO satellite. Then at the right time, it would explode in space, just above our atmosphere, creating a massive EMP. Most all civilian electronics would be taken out. However, the US Military, being aware of threat even from a normal nuke hit on a city, had hardened all their key systems thus it really wouldn't do much to our ability to respond to an attack.

Then you see Danny calling his truant officer and you see the logo from Trump Plaza casino in Atlantic City in the background. Then Danny goes up the escalator there from the Boardwalk into that casino to meet Frank dealing Blackjack. The Trump Plaza has since been demolished. Trump also previously owned the Taj Mahal casino & hotel there which is now the Hard Rock and the Trump Marina casino which is now the Golden Nugget. FYI since Steve Wynn left Las Vegas, None of the casinos are owned by any individuals. They are all owned by Corporations.

I read One Second After. It's very good at portraying what would happen to people suffering the loss of power to all electronics after an EMP, but very bad at how they portray that initial nuclear blast. Given the height the nuclear blast would have to be to cause maximum loss of power (given the effects range and needed line of sight) it would take HUNDREDS of atmospheric nuclear blasts to effect the entire country. One or two wouldn't do it.

I enjoy these Ocean movies though one reoccurring theme that bugs me is that every now and then they use cryptic language when talking about how they are going to do something. This is cool if there were actual context involved. Instead it seems like a bunch of random words and we as the audience are supposed to think that they are being smart.
Hope you watch the other Ocean movies.

Talking about a book to us while 'watching' a movie? Can we get more of that paid for on Patreon? 😂

Dont know if tou ever watched snatch. But the black guy who does elec part was the same Actor with tyrone. It's arguably a better heist movie and it's the inspiration to this.

Your editor likes to the duck quack for curse words. The $ or cha ching hasn't been used in editing. Just a suggestion for movies about a heist.

The sequel oceans 12 was lackluster in my opinion but oceans 13(2009) I thought was an excellent return to form and recommened

Thi is one of my favs. Also one of the few times where the remake was better - IMHO- than the original. Yeah I’m one of those that didn’t like the next two…

Does a US release of a Chinese movie that has English subtitles count for this channel? If so please watch a movie with Jackie Chan named Armour of God 2: Operation Condor. From 1991..
Also, Strawberry flavor, good sleep! Watch the movie to get that.. 😂

Ocean 12 is very good, but not quite as good, though I enjoyed it. 13 is even better than 11.

@@AwesomeUSMovies Thanks for responding. I love the movies you're reacting to.
FYI when you're not actually recording the content(ie the intro) mic level seems fine it's just when you're recording the actual program. I hope this helps.
