Hi, I just came across your channel. I was raised in Plymouth Brethren "Assembly" in Regina, then Saskatoon, SK. In high school, I got involved in the Jesus People movement about 1970, then into more mainstream churches like Alliance. I am no longer a believer because I just can't reconcile the God of the old testament with any of the attributes of the God that Christians claim exists. I've really enjoyed what I've viewed on your channel. Thanks for the effort you out into these videos.
Nonbelief is the third largest group out of the known belief systems. The first two are Christianity and Islam. I know people think that Judaism is one of the world's big religions, but it's down around number 15 with other cults.
Chris, I really like what you are doing here. I'm looking forward to future videos. You'll no doubt get plenty of criticism, but don't let them stop you. This is valuable content you are creating...I believe it to be true. May your channel grow.
Your credentials are very convincing. You can’t fake what you said in this video. I’m on board with your channel and excited for what’s to come. Your natural speaking speed is a bit fast for my tiny little pea brain 😅to keep up with but I discovered that slowing down the play speed to .75 is perfect (I noticed an earlier comment on another video asked you to slow down). I would say, “you be you”.
lol! Oh man that's funny. I'll work on it. really. I always talk too fast. After a paper once, someone thought it was because I was nervous. But it's not really.. I just talk this fast. But I'll work on slowing down
Enjoyed it again! Possible future video idea I would love to see is some book recommendations from you on different topics! Thanks for the awesome content!
I believe it is often the case that the more educated a person becomes the less likely they are to hold on to Christian Fundamentalism. That has been my observation anyway.
great video Chris. Im not gonna lie. I wish there were different words to describe the kind of churches you go to now other than liberal/progressive. hehe. i grew up in the nonreligious "progressive" world of California. The last five years have convinced me that this world i grew up can be just as dogmatic and emotionally poisonous as an extreme religious sect. just with no god. but that's my own baggage. hehe. thanks dude.
@@SamDupree-bw4rt yeah, you're not wrong. And both the words liberal and progressive have been hijacked by politics too. I haven't figured out a good way to describe myself yet I guess

I wonder if, as a Plymouth Brethren ex-member who believed in the Trinity, your stance on Biblical Trinity teaching has changed since you started studying the Bible academically?
@@robertwheeler1158 it's interesting to me that you think there is a biblical theology of sin and Redemption. Are you sure you aren't thinking about Anselm of Canterbury?
OH MY GOD. YOU were raised in the church, shared the gospel all that time? That's what bothers me from a complete biblical perspective. I was a thief, and consequently a liar, with no guilt, from the age of 3. Converted at 32, when a man told me God didn't give Moses the ten commandments. Enter scholarship in anger, after all, I've seen the movie ten commandments many times, and God gave them to Moses. Guess what? HE DIDN'T. It means mt. 4:4, is the ten commandments without debate, unless you want to lose a debate. THIS IS HUGE, or deliberately not addressed, for Jesus is telling Satan humanity, will live by the ten commandments, which means Christianity too, unless Christianity isn't humanity, possibly debatable. Even Satan knew God bypassed Moses, and gave the commandments to someone else. Every other law he gave to Moses. Is your years of scholarship able to surmise this truth? It is written.
@eltonron1558. don't use the Lord's name in vain for the love of God. Also, you are angry and rambling incoherently. Take a deep breath and think about what you want to say. That's what i tell my little boys when they are upset. it works for them.
1. Did you vote for Trump? 2. Should abortion be safe and legal and available to any woman, especially in circumstances such as rape or incest? 3. Do you believe that gay and lesbian people should be allowed to marry each other? If, at a minimum, you answer anything but No, Yes, Yes to any of those questions, no one should listen to you.
1. you should take out "at a minimum". you didn't use it correctly and it distracts from your point. 2. you stink. 3. like i said in your other comment, go away and cry.
And to show that I'm fair, you seem like a very nice guy. You don't seem like someone first impression who is trying to pull one over on anyone intentionally. Someday, when you realize what you've been trying to do, you might feel very bad about it. No one needs you to save them, and you're not better than anyone else.In fact, you're not a very good example of critical thinking. But I think you seem like a nice guy, so I won't be mean to you lol. Unless I see you posting craziness.
Super happy for you! I get very happy when people question what they were taught. And don’t let coercion or fear decide their conclusion.
Thanks Chris, I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say. 😊
Glad to have you watching!

Interesting how when you learn something about the real history of Christianity it looks nothing like Fundamentalism either in practice or theology.
