In Indonesia, there's a tradition of helping people with mental health issues, stress, or anxiety by bathing them in cold water every midnight until they recover. This is usually done in a river near their home. Even a friend of mine who was dependent on antidepressants for years is now fully recovered and has stopped taking the medication.

I lived in Malang for 1yr (beasiswa at UMM), and I can tell you that a Mandi at 6am was very chilly! 'Malang dingin' was true for that time of morning, or even late at night. Brrrrrrr; but I was living in a Kos with other students.

Our water went out, so I had to buy a big plastic tub I filled with water from the garden hose. I wouldn't say the water is cold. It's somewhere between 26-30 C. I do prefer warm water for washing my hair. I can deal with «cold» water in Thailand, but not in Norway. As for you not getting viruses. Most likely it's related to Vitamin D. It's not just how much you take but getting the co-factors right and your genetic dose response. If yours is higher and you take the same dose as a friend with less, you would have better immunity. BTW, I discovered Fah Talai Jone in Thailand. Game changer! Love your videos!
Oh, and I forgot. One reason why cold water is beneficial is hormesis. That also means exposing yourself to heat is beneficial. Whether it's sauna, red/near infrared light (heat lamps or belts, not panels) or constant about 30 C temperatures for a few months a year, will be beneficial. And perhaps the last one combined with «cold» water is especially good.

Mostly, I do bathing in cold water here in Indonesia. But, if suddenly you want to take a bath in hot water, just boiling it on stove. 😊
    Good video, Kate 👍

Hi Kate, very nice to have virtually met you, I've been enjoying your channel for a few hours now from cold & rainy Sydney tonight...:// thnx. Just to say hello really... I spent a few weeks at The Majahapit last year, great hotel but didn't enjoy the surrounds much at all & so quite curious about you having chosen central Java? Also wonder your fav vlog editing tool too please? I suspect that I'm not that far behind you & yes, exciting

This is so interesting! I love how you're sharing all the quirks of living in Indonesia. I think your hot water heater is a great purchase!

It's not really cold water in Indonesia, lol. Cannot compare it with what cold water feels like in the West.

@@join6072 only if you live up high in the mountains and yes Bandung is bit cooler so I can imagine the water there is a bit colder. But in Yogjakarta it's hot climate.
