Per the UK publication "The Independent": Nolan himself has continually maintained that the ending of "Inception" is subjective, saying that the only thing that matters is that, at this stage of the film, Cobb doesn’t care if he’s dreaming or not. However Michael Caine revealed at a 2018 screening of the film that when "Inception" was being made, he asked Nolan "when is it a dream and when is it reality" and Nolan replied "when you’re in the scene, it’s reality." So at the film's end Cobb is no longer in his own dream because Caine's character is present. Take that for what it's worth.
I don't like the interpretation that Cobb doesn't care if he's dreaming. He told Michael Caine's character that he was doing for his children's benefit, so that they could have their father back. For him to simply not care if it's a dream means that he doesn't care whether his children ever get their father back for real. I prefer a slightly different interpretation. He doesn't wait to see if the top stops spinning because he knows he's in reality. He's found a new totem: his children's faces. In the dream, he could never see their faces. You might point out that on the 4th Level of the dream, Mal called to the children and Cobb turned away, implying that he only chooses not to see his children's faces in the dream, not that he can't see them at all. I would argue that this was a special case. Mal is a manifestation of Cobb's guilt and uncertainties. Only she could make him see their faces in the dream, and he realized that once that happened, he would never be able to know if his children were real or imagined.
The blu-ray has some interesting documentaries about dreaming, and lucid dreaming, about exercises you can do to seize control of your own dreams. In Greek mythology Ariadne was the Cretan princess who helped Theseus defeat the Minotaur... in the maze !

I love this reaction video! I saw this movie on opening night @ IMAX back in 2010, and it is still my fave movie to this day. The concept and execution are flawless, and that soundtrack. Oh boy! It's a massive movie, and it filled me with joy to see you experience the wtf at the start, and then the elation by the final "kick" and ambiguous ending. So cool. Thank you. In Nolan We Trust! Peace.
Great reaction like always, There are thrillers, and then there are thrillers. Gripping every second and couching its pages of exposition in the smartest way possible, this movie is original filmmaking at its finest i love Nolan movie. There are some fun-facts about it Christopher Nolan thought of the idea behind this movie when he was 16, and the script took him 10 years to write, Cobb's team used the French song "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," which translates to "No, I Don't Regret Anything" in English, as a "kick" to signal that it's time to leave a dream. Translated in English, "No, absolutely nothing / No, I regret nothing / It is paid, done, forgotten / I don't care about the past," may allude to Cobb and Saito's recurring line: "Do you want to become an old man, filled with regret, waiting to die alone?" The song is also a direct contrast to Cobb's inability to let go of his late wife, Mal. The cast and crew traveled to a total of six countries while filming this film the locations included the U.S., Morocco, Canada, France, the U.K., and Japan. Nolan's son Magnus played James, Cobb's son. Nolan also cast his cousin, Miranda, as a flight attendant. Joseph Gordon-Levitt said the scene in the hallway was both the most fun and the most painful experience he's ever had on a set. Arthur's totem, an object that signifies whether or not he's in a dream or reality, is a red pair of dice. When he shows it to Ariadne, the side with five dots faces the camera. In his dream at the hotel, the number appears several times. The hotel has at least five floors, and two "5" signs frame Gordon-Levitt several times during the zero-gravity fight scene. The license plates in Yusuf's dream were marked as "The Alternate State." The characters' dreams are filled with subtle hints that separate the subconscious from the real world. Though a minor detail, Nolan changed the cars' license plates to read "The Alternate State," dropping a hint that the action scene was happening in a dream. The scene between Cobb and Miles was shot at the architecture school at University College London, the university where Nolan studied English and met his wife Emma Thomas. Miles makes a reference to DiCaprio's role in "Catch Me If You Can." "Extradition between France and the United States is a bureaucratic nightmare," Cobb told Miles as he discusses his plan to return home to his children in the U.S. That line is a reference to his role as Frank Abagnale Jr., who gets arrested in France and sent back to the U.S. in the film "Catch Me If You Can." Keep up the good work.
I totally believe Nolan intends for the ending to be ambiguous but someone pointed this out to me so now I'm going to point it out to you: The spinning top is her totem, not his. We never see him use his totem to check if he's still dreaming, ever. So add in all the "maybe none of this is real" stuff, Ariandne being a suspicious name for a spinner of dreams, the walls closing in during the chase, Sato just perfectly arriving to save him in the car, the rules seeming to slightly change and shift, all things that could just be part of the story of the film but could equally be element of a dream, add that to the wrong totem and Mal's speeches about what is real and what isn't then add in Ariandne seeming to gently guide him to acceptance - he's dreaming. The inception is on him. They're trying to get him to let go and wake up. They even get him to say it himself to Mal almost in parallel to Fisher telling himself the idea in the saferoom. That works so well, it's so neat, so tidy, and it would be so odd for him to clearly know you can't use someone else's totem and yet he's there using Mal's, something of such incredible significance to him in the story of the movie/dream. It's just borderline unimaginable that if he's a professional at this that he'd have that as an oversight whereas it tracks completely, beat for beat perfectly, that they're doing inception on him to get him to let go. Sadly I can't claim credit for putting that together, I can only pass it on, but to me it's incredibly persuasive. So much so that if Nolan told me he didn't think that was the answer I'd confidently tell him he was clearly wrong about it!
If anyone hasn't said, lots of concepts from this movie are based on real life lucid dreaming, controlling a dream, creating a 'totem' or visual que to let your subconscious know you are in a dream (the reverse of what is shown in the movie) etc but take care if you look into it is all ill say. I found it very helpful once properly practiced
The crazy thing is a lot of the special effects was done practically. The slow-motion explosions were real & filmed with a high-speed camera. The rotating hallway fight screen was filmed in an actual rotating hallway!
One of the very few movies that after it ended made me feel like I actually woke up from a very long and crazy dream. Other films that did that to me were Interstellar and LotR: the fellowship of the ring. And they are all in my top five. Ultimate films that really manage to transport you away from reality.
Hey Centane, although it's spelled Cillian Murphy it actually pronounced as Killian (an alternative spelling for the same name but both sound the same). That's Irish names for you😄
You noticed things i didn't on the first watch, the soundtrack is Amazing, I love how Cobb and Mal did get to grow old together, it was a movie about accepting the passing of a love one to me,
This is a very good movie and very intellectual. There are people who hate it as it is movie that you can't just sit back and enjoy. If you live in your head and overthink things it will speak to you. It does for me and I'm crazy with over-thinking. I do have to challenge you however to not think quite so literally about this movie. It isn't what it seems, and it isn't as straightforward as it is presented. I have one question that you need to ponder; What if Mal is right and she is the ONE reaching into Cobb's mind and trying to get to HIS subconscious. We're seeing things through Cobb's dreamworld that he is trapped within. He is using HIS memories and that's a big no-no because now he can't separate reality from his dream. The movie now has me trying to piece together how Mal is trying to reach Cobb as Cobb is stuck in his dream limbo. One clue you need to think about is the fact that his children never age. They don't age because in his mind they are always the same, and they might not even be real.
Inception was directly inspired by the anime by Satoshi Kon from 2006 named Paprika about a doctoress who travels in her client's dreams and take on the Avatar of a free-spirited woman named Paprika. It is a mind bend of a film, very trippy and you'll immediately see the obvious influence on Inception. Strongly suggested if you already watch Satoshi Kon, his first film, Perfect Blue, one of the greatest anime ever and also a rare anime that is a psychological thriller. Like most Satoshi Kon movie, it is an absolute mindfuck. By the middle you'll struggle to know what's real and what's not but it is a very, very good film, though not an easy watch with strong graphic violence as well as sexual. Strongly recommended and the obvious inspiration for Darren Aronofski's 2010 film Black Swan. You can't go wrong with him, he died of cancer in 2010 but his 4 films are all masterpieces. Inception and Black Swan are both from 2010 and are easily among the best films of that year.

Christopher Nolan has 3 big names he seems to work with in most of his movies: Zimmer, of course, Michael Caine, and Cilllian Murphy (Irish pronunciation is actually Killian). Others that have shown up more than include Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon Levitt. Love your perceptive insights and reactions btw.
If You liked Inception, You should see another Nolan film - Tenet. It can be as mind-bending as Inception, but there the factor is time and its twists. And I also recommend my most favorite movie - Alita: Battle Angel.
This movie has a special kind of tingle factor because nearly all the main characters started off as child actors. I remember seeing Leo, Joseph, Ellen, Tom Hardy, even Lucas Haas (the first Architect) on TV when they were knee-high.
@@habibislam1904 practically. If you’ve ever seen Star Trek Nemesis, he was barely 24 and was such a youngster compared to the rest of the cast. You wouldn’t believe it’s the same guy.
@@jgrado3 Knee High? Comparing 24 year old Tom Hardy in Trek to all of the others is a huge reach lol. No child actor would be doing Band of Brothers or Black Hawk Down.

Excellent reaction. And now, since you've gotten a good handle on this one, shoot for "Tenet" next - to get your brain all stirred up in a whole new manner.
There's no direct quote confirming that Nolan was inspired by Paprika but he almost definitely paid homage to it. Nolan had been working on the concept of Inception for around a decade so before the film Paprika but not the novel, and I believe has confirmed he has been inspired throughout his career by the works of Jorges Luis Borges, an Argentinian author who wrote short stories concerning concepts and motifs such as dreams, infinity, mythology, and chance.
Ah! A Chris Nolan classic. Not his finest piece of work but its up there. I think I've watched Inception four times now through the years, one of those films that's very easy to come back to after you've kind of forgotten about it haha. A pretty demanding film but completely unpreachy and the characters/performances are terrific. The Dark Knight/Memento share the podium as my personal favourite Nolan films.

“Oh, just throw Mal in the garbage.” 😂😂
Tonight I decided to spend time with your channel Kamila! Going to watch latest 10 videos from this :) I am sure I will enjoy all of them.
Cillian Murphy’s character, Robert Fisher, is named after a chessmaster Bobby Fisher. Chess plays a lot in this movie.
Chest master? (Acknowledge your mistake, don’t do the coward’s way out and edit your comment so I look insane.)
I blame autocorrect. I had to fix it. Thanks for telling me.
Great movie. Great reaction. Loved watching you go through what all of us have gone through.
There's so much Internet lore about that ending, as well.
The blu-ray has some interesting documentaries about dreaming, and lucid dreaming, about exercises you can do to seize control of your own dreams.
In Greek mythology Ariadne was the Cretan princess who helped Theseus defeat the Minotaur... in the maze !
Ive got this movie on Blue Ray along with a full stereo surround sound with a powered sub woofer. Not only is it one of my favorite movies but my next door neighbors love it too.
lol! I'm sure they do.... ;)
Are there unpowered subwoofers?
@@tylergay7221 there are some that get their juice from the amplifier receiver and you have subs that only receive the signal and have their own built in amp. But I see your meaning.
@@tylergay7221 some get their boost from the receiver and others just receive the signal and have their own built in amp.
@@tylergay7221 My guess he means active subwoofer... ;)
Took Nolan ten years to come up with this plotline.
This movie is one of the biggest emotional roller coasters I've ever experienced in all of film. It was a joy to feel it again through you!
Love your reactions! Im halfway through the video but youre adorable, humorous, and genuine! Having a great time. Thank you.
That's Irish names for you😄
That always used to throw me as well. “Kill”, not “sill”. Irish!
Love that you went into fully blind, the intrigue must have been off the charts for you 👏🏽
You noticed things i didn't on the first watch, the soundtrack is Amazing,
I love how Cobb and Mal did get to grow old together, it was a movie about accepting the passing of a love one to me,
"Oh, come on, there's space! " Yep, he struggled so hard but def there's A LOT of space 🧐
You should have seen me in the theater watching this movie and see how my brain went to mush in real time… that was a movie in and of itself 😂😂😂 it immediately became a top 5 all time movie for me. It’s still there.
Inception is one of my all time fav films
It's easy to overlook the fact Cobb spent 2 lifetimes in limbo.
I got served an ad for Grammarly during Kamilla's ad read for Lingopie ... did anyone else experience adception? 🙃😂
Hope you enjoy it, cause after I watched this movie years ago. I had a dream within a dream, no lie. This film opened something within my mind, and now I have become more of an introvert. Be safe healthy humble always❤❤😂😂.
Please react to Rush hour 1,2 and 3. It stars Jackie Chan and Chris tucker. Loads of hilarious scenes and plenty action.
The anime Paprika was the source of inspiration for this film. Also, there's an anime called ID:Invaded which was inspired by Inception.
has been a while since i came here to watch a movie with you, I've had being watching only on anime channel :v anyway
thank you for the video, always a pleasure! :)
thank you for still hanging out even with the new anime channel 🥹🩷
I saw this in the theater, and this movie is a complete and total mind f*ck. The whole concept is unreal. I can watch this over and over.
This is a remake of a compilation of movies. The Matrix, Shudder Island, etc.
When I was 7yo, I had a dream that spanned over a period of 9 months real time. It was a dream about the future events. It’s deja vu.
This is my favorite movie of all time and I don’t normally have favorites in anything
46:53 "Of course, it's Christopher Nolan, my biggest enemy!"
Watched inception in imax in 2010 was blown away. Watched this movie so many times
My favourite Nolan movie. Pure brilliance from start to finish.
Even tho fisher gave up the company, it made him think better of his father
Chris Nolan's story timeline is a forever circle.
Middle, beginning, middle, end, beginning, end, middle ........ And so on forever.
If You liked Inception, You should see another Nolan film - Tenet. It can be as mind-bending as Inception, but there the factor is time and its twists. And I also recommend my most favorite movie - Alita: Battle Angel.
Half this cast was in Batman. 😮. With Tom and Josephand Mal in part 3ut the spinning top at the end.....
This movie has a special kind of tingle factor because nearly all the main characters started off as child actors. I remember seeing Leo, Joseph, Ellen, Tom Hardy, even Lucas Haas (the first Architect) on TV when they were knee-high.
Tom Hardy was a child actor?
@@habibislam1904 practically. If you’ve ever seen Star Trek Nemesis, he was barely 24 and was such a youngster compared to the rest of the cast. You wouldn’t believe it’s the same guy.
@@jgrado3 Knee High? Comparing 24 year old Tom Hardy in Trek to all of the others is a huge reach lol. No child actor would be doing Band of Brothers or Black Hawk Down.
Another reaction recently pointed out to me that Mal is Spanish for bad. Really let's you know what her projections motivation are.
Most of these actors are in Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, and Cillian Murphy's best role to date is in Peaky Blinders.
This movie teminds of me of 6 others. The sci-fi masterpiece with Jennifer Connely, Dark City, tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky, matt Damon in The adjustment Bureau, and a Juliette Moore movie. Finally Bruce Willis in Looper. Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt in 12 monkeys!
Excellent reaction. And now, since you've gotten a good handle on this one, shoot for "Tenet" next - to get your brain all stirred up in a whole new manner.
If you enjoyed Inception, you'll definitely love Paprika by Satoshi Kon, which largely inspired it.
Oh I so need you to watch everything everywhere all at once
I really like Saito in this!
He’s awesome
Unrelated but thank you for making a separate anime channel (I just saw the little banner). As somebody who only likes a couple animes it’s always annoying to have my feed filled with it from reactors I like that bundle them together. 🙏
Do the departed next, just as crazy
Excellent reaction. You are so clever. Best reaction to this movie I’ve seen.
YES! Great movie! 😉 Its one of the best sequels ever made! Leo goes into the water in Titanic and wakes up on the beach in Inception! 😁😅😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
LETS GOOOOOO!! 🤘😎🤘
0:31 ..."I think he is... Maybe he's not" ....Schrödinger's Murphy
Truly enjoyed this reaction,
Great reaction to a fun movie. I took a lady she didn't know anything about it when it was out in cinema and she loved it. Never usually likes those types of movies.
It is one of those movies that you think about for weeks after your first watch. =‑)
One of the greatest movies ever. The scope of this film is huge. It's so well written, visually designed, filmed, the score is incredible, the direction is intense, and the performances are impeccable. It's simply brilliant.
43:22 ...Pete Postlethwaite, R.I.P. ...I can't recommend you enough to watch "In the name of the father" (1993), his best role...
Best reaction I’ve seen for sure
so great! now waiting for the 96 hours franchise :D
Yessss.
My favorite movie too. Other than maybe interstellar. You should see that if you haven't yet.
I dream of sleeping in a dream very often. Sadly it doesn't work like in the movie 😅 I wish it was, I would love to never wake up again. Suffering everyday with my health issues, not able to do what normal people takes as granted is... not fun.
so now "TENET" should be your next encounter with Christopher Nolan.
Hello, check out a movie called, Christine. Horror/Thriller (1983). A classic red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine, the car is possessed by evil. It stars Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Robert Prosky and Harry Dean Stanton. Directed by John Carpenter. Stephen King’s 1983 novel of the same name.
One of the best films ever imo. I love all of Nolan's films (some more then others to be fair). This one is one of his best by far. Loved your reaction as always. So many theories about the ending. What's yours? 🙂
Hans Zimmer ❤
528491 🔥 best movie soundtrack ever
Check out “Tenet” next. You’ll think Inception is easy to follow.
Inception is even better second viewing
Waiting patiently for The Godfather 😊
eeek!! its to come out not this week, but next one! (week 35) ❤️
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Ok, this has been driving me insane for months now. Kamille reminds me of someone and I can't work it out. At first I thought it was someone I knew, but that's not. She reminds of someone on TV or in the entertainment industry but I can't put my finger on it.
Anyone?
if you see tom hardy only as venom, watch the movie Warrior from 2011..he is great there
great movie ....TOP 3 ALL TIME for me
The concept is nothing we have ever seen before, which is something Christopher Nolan is always managing to pull off.
Paprika (2006) vs. Inception (2010) See where Christopher Nolan got his inspiration for Inception
if you want to see a young "Alfred" Michael Caine check out his first leading role ZULU
i miss when ppl try to make creative good movies :( this is just period of time, ppl will make creative good movies again sooner or later.
18:00 That is quite the statement lol. Venom being one of his least memorable characters and worst films.
29:08 She's not a "snake".... she's mentally ill. She wanted to get back to what she thought was reality.
