This reminds me of the episode where villagers were given tours through the house by the family. When it showed how little they knew about their own home 😂
I so enjoyed the series over the years. It was a wonderful form of escape from the everyday cares that we face. As a young woman, I also enjoyed PBS's Upstairs Downstairs that broadcast 1971-1975.
@@audreykennedy8891 I seen on a UA-cam video that there’s gonna be a sequel in March next year called downton abbey 2. I don’t know if it’s gonna be on tv or in the cinema
I hope they make a compilation video of al the Downstairs prep work scenes - cleaning, arranging, cooking etc. - from all the Downton episodes, as a tribute to all the hardworking staff in this excellent series :)
So much was set that would be hard. They used the same bedroom/set for all the upstairs people from season 2 on. Only in season 1 did they use the bedrooms at Highclere. They would redress the furniture to make the set look differently. You can especially tell this with Mary's bedroom. Look how different it looked after season 1. It changed completely. I did like how in the movie we got to see Kamuk's bedroom again. You know the room with the red damask walls. That is really a Highclere castle room, not a set. I am not sure about all the bedrooms in the movie were at Highclere or set, but for sure they showed us that bedroom again.
It is amazing that Highclere Castle allowed the production to use the majority of their public rooms for the show, the family rooms were all filmed in the castle. Downstairs rooms were filmed at Ealing Studios, as it was technically impossible to have filmed in the Highclere servants quarters, changed a lot since the 1900s and too small to film in.

Hope it's a big lottery. At the height of the show's popularity a special was broadcast featuring the current occupants Highclere, still owned by the same family who built it. The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon (or something like that) stated it costs something like £1 million every year to maintain it so they were very happy to have the production paying them to film there.
@@dergluckliche4973 I think my wife and I watched that special together as well she's been a huge fan of the show before the world began watching so when I bought her the complete set of the DVDs she went bonkers by having me learn every characters name and position in the house I wish more shows were like downtown... take care
When you see how realistic the downstairs sets were built in Ealing Studios, you realise just how much money ITV threw at the production, as the servants quarters looked 100% real, but were all based in Ealing Studios.
Downton Abbey: Matthew and Sybil Miniseries There should be a new miniseries, filling in the various huge years and months long gaps in the original series. With primarily Matthew and Sybil focused stories. It could be done the same way as Cobra Kai. And draw on the many unused camera angles and alternate takes from the original series. Which would delight the fans, because it would bring out things from the original series they'd never seen before from certain physical angles. And some of the multitude of unfinished storylines, could be brought out. For example, off the top of my head. The story of Sybils cake for her Ladyship, could finally be told. I'm sure there's a lot of good possibilities for stories to be told around that. And more stories about Sybils exotic frock. I'm a guy and an American, but even I would like to see more stories about how she defied her mother about the "fancy pajamas" frock, lol. She was the mischievous "Rose" characte of the show, before there was a Rose. And there could be more stories, lots and lots of them, about Matthew and his job. And how it got worked around his obligations to Downton. And what was the story of his new "fast and jaunty car"? The one that eventually killed him. That car was just landed in the show with no story at all about how the decision was made to get it. And how he and Mary got it. A good writer like Julian could come up with all kinds of charming conversations about it, and work it around other more known things in the original story. I think Julian should do a whole series, while the actors are still young, about Matthew and Sybil, before their untimely deaths. At least he could write it now. Or outline it at least. Because it has been proven that only Julian can write Downton believably. And then later, as technology progresses, the older actors could act in it. Then their faces could be "de-aged" digitally to the proper younger age. The technology for that is just about here right now. I wish SOMEONE would get this idea to Julian! Please.
That's what the upper class do. Spend their technically ill-gotten wealth to ensure there is a social barrier between them & the people they wish they were served by & think are beneath them.
So few people lived like that then too. You can't be rich and privileged in world where most or all people are the same. The rich and powerful need and help create the poorer class so that they can be served.
I find these structures hideous, cold and ridiculous. If this series brings out anything its the wide gap between the classes. Think of the budget for the womens clothing alone! It's obscene to sit in haute couture to eat supper night after night! I guess Lady Grantham could spare a few crumbs for the boys who came home from war. Oh, I know. Tney turned that hideous place into a parttime recovery unit. This place has 110 rooms.

You mean ITV's Upstairs Downstairs 🙄
Just a very beautiful interior space. I love Downton Abbey.
I've watched the series 5 times--amazing!!!!!!!
I saw a show that showed all the wonderful things that happen around Christmas at this estate.
I wish there was less montage so we could see how the rooms are located after one another and appreciate the distances.
This was such a great show.
I REALLY hope they will be another new series of downton abbey! ❤️. I’m actually watching previous episodes again at the moment. I have the box set ❤️
There will be a 2nd movie this christmas.

That would probably be a security risk for the current occupants of Highclere Castle.

I always thought Mrs. Pattmores kitchen was at highclear. That makes a lot more sense that it is a set.

I can imagine a nicer library. See the Vanderbilt's Biltmore Estate library in the United States. It would put this one to shame.
Looks like a museum instead of a home y they build such a place anyway
