Rudy, I turned 40 yesterday. I'm a Timmy. I have an okay job, but never understood building wealth and planning for my future until I started watching your channel a couple years ago. I still have a small amount of students loans, but a TON of debt from starting a company and it eventually (after a few years) not being able to support me. I'm grinding so hard to pay it off. I needed this video, only for the part where you said it's okay to fail. I broke down. You made me cry. I really needed that. Thank you.

Simply Brilliant and this is the stuff I need to learn as I'm a citizen of Pound Town and can't even afford to become a patron.
It would be awesome if you keep going on this topic as this is something I really need to learn to help myself and my family.
So please continue these whiteboard talks about debt and how to get out from under it. Maybe even go into detail on how to dispute old debts as many of things on my credit report are at least a decade old with nothing new added since then.
In '98 my special needs son was born and his first 3 months was $380,000 in hospital bills and close to $500,000 a year after that for the next 6 years. I was 32 at the time and was doing fairly well. Well as you can imagine insurance found a way to wiggle out of covering his medical expenses and my wife and I lost everything over time in the attempt to keep up. So this is exactly what I need to learn.
So I'm basically begging you to teach me more about this and thank you for covering it...

I'm just starting out in life so I can't afford to be a patron, but would really appreciate it if you did another one of these talks but for people who are just starting out, like how do you start investing? and how do I build credit? I've been scared to do any banking or finance for a long time because I feel like I'm going to screw it up but your message at the end has really resonated with me. Get a credit card and buy gas with it, just gas. Pay it off every month. Don’t miss car payments! These two things will have you in the high 700’s by the time your 24.
You need to get a job and stack some money up first thats whats most important. Im 23 and make 80k with no college, theres no excuses to not have a decent job in this economy.
Just search the Alpha Investment's channel for the "Wolf of Magic" videos. Those are the Timmy level primer videos for Financials and Investing.
Rudy has an awesome video called How To Be A Credit Card Warrior or something like that and an entire intro to personal finance called Wolf of Magic. Take a look at all of the Creepy Rudy videos as well, they give you great insight into some of the financial situations Rudy had to work with in life.
You start investing when you can start. Check out the return on the entire stock market index as compared to interest in debt, many times paying off debt is the better investment. You can take risks when you are young, but credit card debt is the worst kind. Saving is the key investment. Read that again. That is the key to getting the ball rolling. Really think about college as it doesn't have the returns it once did. Also, consider doing a cheaper 2 year program and then transferring to a full Bachelor's. If you are serious about investing for the long term you can always start with mutual funds, bonds, high yield savings, index funds or CDs. None of those will have huge yields, but you will start making it out ahead. Remember to be careful when investing that you don't spend more time than you could use just making money. One clever trick I have known people to pull off is buying a home with a mortgage before college around the college and renting to pay off the mortgage. You are stuck with risking any down payment and liability. Easiest way to build credit is to get a credit card and have it auto pay in full. Be careful with how you use it, starting with limiting it to select items.
This really works , sadly I was about $25 grand in CC debt due to bad decisions and some bad luck . I went off the grid for about 8 years and worked for family and myself . I got so many death threat letters from scavenger groups I actually moved and changed phones a few times and paid cash for everything . Eventually I had the guts to run a credit report 8 years later and no joke it was clear . My score was not that great still but I applied for a decent card and was approved for s pretty high limit . I’ve had good credit since fir the last 2 years . It can be done but u have to have some good nerves and emotional control.
Similar story here. I ducked and dodged those bastards for years and came out pretty nicely. But its really hard to live "off the grid". No bills in your name, no income on the books, no car in your name, no bank account, etc. Its rough, but it can be done.
Yes it was , I was fortunate to have a paid for truck that was in good shape and living rent free with my girlfriend at the time who is now my wife . Looking back it’s funny how ashamed I was because my parents who never welched on a debt in there life never new , I hid it from them fir years . They just thought I was investing and “ was debt free from cards and paying cash fir everything. Lol . Looking back I would never had been able to do that without being forced too lol. I felt guilty as hell . Now these days it’s seems to be not that big of a deal to the younger generation @ no offense to anyone out there who’s just starting out but in the 90s when I was in my 20s it was like being a scumbag to have credit companies calling u and even could get u in trouble if they called your work ... but honestly I admit I did get a bit of selfish gratitude beating them out of all of that I guess because how rude and mean they were . They would make u feel like u robbed a million bucks from there own personal bank account. Lesson learned though .

Thanks for talking about this. I've worked as a bankruptcy lawyer for 10+ years, and I wish people had more general knowledge about their debts, interest, credit. No matter where they're getting that knowledge. People usually have really incomplete information, and they bury their head in the sand and are afraid to find out their options. Only thing I'd suggest, be extra clear with your disclaimer - you don't want to be seen as giving legal advice, and the laws will be different state-to-state. Haven't finished watching yet, I hope you recommend they talk to a lawyer, most bankruptcy/financial attorneys will do free consults. But thank you for getting this out to people who may not otherwise get it.

I am in this situation where I am paying off 3 credit cards, and I just moved and I was exhausting all options to have enough money in my account today so I did not overdraft my account from my end of month bills. Hey Rudy I love these kinds of vids, im here late but law school has had me pretty busy. I learned a lot last summer from you and other sources and went from no credit since I was 23 and never had a credit card to now having 2 credit cards with 2k limits each and a 3rd with a 300 limit-still building it. I dont intend to ever be delinquent and have to use this knowledge but I appreciate you making these vids because like you said none of its taught. I went through all of highschool and undergrad nobody said 1 word about this and I was 23 with basically no credit. Thanks again!

I've never had problems from the consumer / debtor side, but now I'm rewatching this from the business / creditor side (accountant for a dealer chain). This perfectly describes all my frustrations with small claims court. It's like $400 start-to-finish where I'm at just to get to having a garnishment served. It's just not worth it for me to sue accounts less than like $2,000, but nobody wants to just "let it go" and take the loss, so my company wastes a lot of money in court costs on worthless accounts that will never produce a dollar of recovered receivables. If you look up the probability of collecting debt decreases with account age, you can get an idea of how likely the rational creditor is to sue you. That being said, spite plays a big factor if the creditor keeps your account in-house rather than selling it off.
Thank you for the life lessons. I have learned so much from your wisdom and way of thinking. I have made numerous financial mistakes within the last 15 years of my life but am continuing to learn everyday as I get up and try again. I am in the process of starting another business again and all of the experience I have gained will help me navigate through the next chapter of my life. Thank you for sharing all you know Rudy.

I don’t even Magic and I love this channel. I am someone who gets criticized for taking openly about credit and income and wish more people did . I made a couple bad choices that got compounded by being down impacted by an employer shuttering staff . I had a credit score in the 400’s and now it is in 800’s and use my experience to help others and I think it is great to use this platform to share this type of information.
This type of information is awesome... Will you make another channel called 'Rudy's Taco Stand' to feed all the Timmy's the info tacos and knowledge burritos?

I don't even play magic and I have just been watching video after video. Just feel a real kinship and this video affirms it. We all make mistakes, bit it takes a truly courageous and strong person to own who they are and pick themselves up every day to keep moving forward.

One of my close friends an heroed while being bullied by the scavenging companies for debt several years ago. I believe if he had more support he might still be alive.

Ok so this is important, if you're served, there's a couple things you can do to avoid the default judgement. 1) They need to confirm your debt. Sometimes collection agencies don't have their ducks in a row and lose or never got the proper paperwork. You send official mail with return receipt asking if they can confirm your debt. If they cannot, you're free from HoseTown.
Now, if they can confirm your debt, DO NOT SKIP THE COURT DATE. If you're given a court date, go to court. Here a lot of things can happen. Sometimes if the collection agency violates the law in trying to collect the debt, you provide this evidence, and the collection agency can owe you money. Sometimes you can request the amount paid to be lowered based on your circumstance. Sometimes the lawyer drops your case because they don't want to argue in front of a judge.
I am not a lawyer, do your own research, etc etc

I wish someone would do a video on what he calls the "scavengers". I've always wondered, for instance, if there is an open market for debt where people's debts can be bought and sold for pennies on the dollar, how would one go about searching this market for a specific debt like your own, or a close friend's or family member, and buy it up (with the intention of forgiving it or just sitting on it and letting it expire)? I remember an article about a rich philanthropist who was doing this, his charity would buy up people's debts and then forgive them. The scheme worked for a while, but eventually the collectors found out who he was and what he doing and blacklisted him. But it wouldn't surprise me if others have attempted the same, or if he was able to create a front group to do the same.
This feels like one of those topics that I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about. And while I don’t plan on ever putting myself in a situation where I’d need this advice, I feel way safer knowing that if something really bad ever happens that there are ways to fix it.
From what I can tell you have touched base on this twice. Thank you for the advice.

A word about judgments...
Yes, a judgement will fall off of your credit after 7 years, but a judgement typically remains in effect for 10 years and within 3 months of the 10 year mark, the lender has the option to reaffirm the judgement for an additional 10 years in most states. So, be forewarned that although a judgement may have fallen off of your credit after 7 years, it is still enforceable for a minimum of 10 years and possibly up to 20 years.
If you are applying for a mortgage to purchase a property or selling a property you already own, the title company will find that judgment and you will have to settle the case with the holder of the judgment prior to closing on the real-estate transaction. That's right, even if you are the seller of the property, you have to pay the judgement before closing. Some title companies will allow you to use any proceeds due to you as the seller to satisfy the judgement.

I see Rudy does discuss judgments @23:45 but he’s a little off on the facts unless Florida where he lives has VERY different judgment laws. I’ve never heard of having to reaffirm every 12 months.

I just moved to a new state as a director level and I am responsible for training others. I tell my young Padawans I have made all the mistakes here is the best way. Protip, if you get a call from a scavenger (had a legal dispute and they preemptively sold the FAKE debt to the rats) just tell them you are someone else and you recently got the phone number. They will be forced to leave your phone number alone.

Student loans you can always join the military under the military student loan forgiveness program. Gotta enlist for at least 3 years but they'll pay off them loans for you. Not the most ideal situation but if you're getting taken to pound town over student debt there are ways to get out.
Fallen Empires boxes are actually doing well now. It only took 20 years or so.
Assuming it cost 60 for the booster box not sure how much was the low point. That would be 14% a year now because it's sitting at $900
