- Richard Hadlee bowls a couple of overs to a 16-year old Sachin Tendulkar and veteran Kapil Dev during a one-day cricket international between India and New Zealand in 1990 at Wellington. Nothing very spectacular, but it's the only footage I've got from that tour.
I was at that game! Sitting on the bank with my mates from school. I think Kapil Dev upped the ante after this and India got to a reasonable score. We (NZ) were chasing and it came down to the wire. Atmosphere unbelievable. Hadlee almost got us home but was bowled by Kapil and we lost by one run. Game over. We jumped over the fence to leave the ground. Great names and great times.
However sincere be your comment, I still object to the word " mental". I think you meant "berserk ".

1990, I was 20 years old, watching this on TV in Auckland. Beautiful memories of the greatest cricket period without the awful T20 stuffing it all up.
Awesome. I was 14 year old waking up really early to watch these matches live on TV. ODIs used to be broadcasted and NZ ODIs were super early. Back then used to enjoy every game as we did not play that much. I remember almost most of 1991 when India did not play anything(I think due to Pakistan cancelling India Tour).
Same here. T20 has destroyed a fine game.Biriyani and test cricket requires patience. Not 2 minutes noodles

Helmet is mandatory now when facing pacers. Those days it was not. Many players never worn helmets in their entire career. The body line and such practices were there that time too.

Not sure where you get your information from but helmets were very prevalent when this match was played in the 1990 you can UA-cam Tendulkar 1989 debut wearing a helmet, rather maybe the wicket was very flat and low hence the batsman felt comfortable

If Tendulkar had not played so many ODI’s, he would had finished with an 80+ Test average and possibly 80+ Test centuries. I’m not just saying this because of physical and mental exhaustion perspective but because Tendulkar re-invented his game. You can see in these early days he was supple which was later compromised with the use of heavier bats for big hitting and faster scoring.
Yes. This apart, injuries on Vital parts, Poor umpiring decisions prevented him from scoring a sizable number of centuries.

Whatever you are claiming are factually wrong, data suggests otherwise. Moreover i have followed Indian team for last 26 years and don't see any validity in your claims.
This argument has no logic. He has played continuously for almost 20 years and played in every test match played during his time scoring at an average of over 55 runs per innings. You cannot sustain an avg more than this playing for such a long period however good you are.

It's a one day match with bouncer restrictions. Low pitch. Hadlee bowling around 130KM/80MPH here, relying more on accuracy and swing. Plus both Kapil and Tendulkar are good players of pace bowling, and have experience and skill of playing without helmets. If it were a Test match at the WACA, Hadlee would have probably bowled around 140KM/87-88MPH when fresh, and these two might have considered helmets. But Kapil could still have played without one, having had the experience of playing the fearsome WI quartret of the early 80s without helmets. Him and Botham were skilful hookers and pullers.

Only instance that would have happened would have been 🇮🇳 tour of 🇳🇿 in 1990. But Hadlee never dismissed Tendulkar, who got dismissed by either Danny Morrison or John Bracewell. Not sure whether Tendulkar faced Hadlee
