  • In this episode of street style salsa dance video we show you how to perform a basic blind cross-body lead with a loop-over lock salsa dance move. While the move may look easy at first, it is the timing and the proper leading where some may have difficulties. Also, we will take it and chain it together with going from a cross-body hammer-lock to a reverse loop-over. I consider this a more intermediate dance pattern because you have to be very careful on how you lead this move. These moves done incorrectly can hurt the girl in VERY bad ways. Julie Merrill also adds a few key styling points for the ladies.

Yeah I agree, the instruction on these videos really show Anthony's progressive growth as both a dancer and instructor. Thanks a lot for sharing Anthony and Julie. You guys are the bomb.

Killer move, and killer song! If I knew what the song was, I'd totally buy whatever album it was on.

great videos. I've come to learn that the best way to learn is to just GET OUT THERE. Nothing is better than learning as you go with a more experienced partner.

The counts 4 and 8 are pauses in the dance rhythm in salsa (no steps are taken during that time). This is standard when teaching salsa dancing.

OMG!! It is not even worth it arguing with street dancers who don't have any dance background. Some times not saying a thing saves you from arguing with ignorant human beings. The video is great and the technique is great. REAL professional dancers or REAL dancers would know this is the REAL deal. Great Job Tony.

Anthony, I noticed you finally threw a lil "shimmy-shake in there for the guys... thats pretty cool. You should show that more often. Men styling is as important as women styling (at least I think). My teacher always says that guys should get more comfortable with there bodies and that they should learn how to move there body to the music in a "manly". He says it shows "sabor", confidence and it adds fluidity and style to their dancing. Kudos

I understand your concern. We have also had feedback on how helpful the notes are to many. We believe that adding the notes to the video where they are applicable (on-the-spot) are helpful instead of the end where we don't know how to reference the content after the video is rendered. We assume our viewers will review the video multiple times, just as a good student would read a chapter in a book more than once to make sure nothing was missed at first pass.

Also, if you think you may have missed something important in the video due to the notes, you can use the UA-cam slider to rewind to the missed starting point. You can also pause the video when you want to take time reading the notes.
Lastly - Addicted2Salsa videos should not replace real classes. Use them as reference videos for moves. :-)

@trichards3000 It's a convencion to count only numbers where dancers moves, also to have the possibility to breath while dancing and teaching.
BTW the 4 and 8 are pauses only if you step on 1, if you step on 2 the pauses are on 1 and 5, if you step on clave the pauses depend by the kind of clave rithm (clave blanca - negra and clave 2-3 or 3-2 ) and if you dance on 'brake on 2' there are no real pauses.
So the pauses are quite relative.

What do you know. I stumbled across a move like this by accident one night. Mines very similar. I didn't know what I was really doing, but it just turned out and alot of the girls liked it... which is all that matters.

I think it just my opinion, that maybe you should film in the middle of the studio, not in the corner, and have better lighting, and someone zooming in into your steps to get a more in depth look at the begging and ending of your turns, where your hands meet and let go and you know( and please a bit slower. But I Have to say you are very good .

The moves are great but for beginners they may end up hurting their partner, especially if no clear leads are given and the partner isn't experienced enough. But learning a couple moves is good overall. Just dance safely!

I love your lessons,But I would add only one hint.
You are attempting to teach by video, yet , you place little notes within this video.
Actually, what I have noticed, is that when those little notes pop up, I am automatically drawn to try and read these.

Not really a good thing. It takes my eyes off the dancers(so I end up missing something which could be important) . I also noticed, that once the eyes are drawn from the dancers, the mind and ears are as well, so , again, you may miss something important. So, if you have some small message to convey to the watchers, better to leave it for the end of the video I think...

If the woman would stop making those ballroom style gestures with her arm, this might work. No one in the clubs or at a family party will be doing that. All I'm saying is that the style doesn't match up with the "street salsa" you're trying to teach.
