sounds like an intro to a WWF fight... its growing on me... I turned somebody onto the new album and this was the song they liked the most after White Man... I'm still into their love songs...
I love Jason Isbell but don't like this song much. Doesn't feel as well constructed. New album has some excellent songs but I'm struggling with this one.
I 'think' he intended it to feel discordant as it fits with the song. Note when he's singing about the parts of his life where he's happiest its smoother more melodic but when he sings regarding the anxiety that he feels over everything else it has the dissonance.
Kim Worley yeah good point, it's just a little more emotionally heavy for my liking I guess, but that's just me. I know some people really connect with this song and that's what music is all about, and Isbell's lyrics cover a diverse amount of subject matter. I can't wait to see him on the 26th in Baton Rouge, I'm taking my pregnant wife who recently discovered the awesomeness of Isbell.
I got to see him in July and just got tix to see him in Louisville in December -- I'm so excited! And I almost drug my wife to the July one....but now...she's like WHEN/WHERE can we go see him again!
I can't stop listening to this album. How does he do it, hits it out of the park with lyrics, performance the whole 9
I'm obsessed with this song. Well written and the intro really does give you a slight anxious feel w the build up.
Yes!!!
Yeah, I love the anxious build-up. One of my favorite songs on the album.

I thought that at first but with repeated listening -- specifically on headphones it really showed thru.
I feel the exact same way, seems like it should have been left off the album
