- In this video you'll get a short preview of the first day of the 2023 corn harvest here in western Pennsylvania. While the corn is still high in moisture, I decided to go ahead and begin harvest and dry it down to 15%, in order to start getting the corn harvested to stay ahead of the inevitable rain and bad weather that comes this time of year. I'm using the John Deere 4400 combine and my Ford F600 dump truck.
Nice feeling to be getting started and running smooth
It sure is. At this point now, I am over half done and that feels good, too. Rain coming tomorrow.
Missed this one Mr Charlie, man yeah looking great!! Love seeing that f600 at work!! 😁😁🌽🌽🌽
What that’s awesome about harvest so far is working good and you get free natural gas so you can dry your corn what a huge bonus and I like the little pet that Corey built there that’s pretty cool
Yes, the free gas is a real blessing. i've had it in my house since 1980 and wonder how much money I've saved over the years. The pit Cory built for the end of the auger works great. Unloading now goes much faster. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Always good to see you Charlie. Corn sample looks very clean. Have a safe harvest Charlie
Thank you, Matthew. The old JD 4400 does do a nice job of cleaning corn. I appreciate you stopping by and commenting.
@pagrainfarmer I wish we lived closer Charlie. I am hosting a oliver plow day at my farm. With breakfast and lunch provided.
Wow, I'd be all over that! Sounds awesome! @@matthewdavis4081
Glad to see you're getting the corn out! I'm going to start tomorrow. Mine was just under 16% When I checked it Friday.
That is a brilliant idea to lower the arguer point, nice video Charlie, the corn looks super clean
Well, Cory gets the credit for that the idea on the auger. And, yes, my old combine cleans the corn pretty well.
Glad you’re getting the corn harvest started! Nice hopper, I should make one for my auger.
The pit and hopper work pretty well and has speeded up unloading.
Nice pile of corn. That Ford 6000 works nicely and that pit is a great idea.
The pit definitely has speeded up unloading and allows us to make less of a mess. Thanks for stopping by, Dave.
Looks great...👍
Thank you! I appreciate you watching and commenting.
I like that pit idea! I’ll be curious to see how it holds up over time!!
It worked great this year. The design of it caused the auger to be fuller while unloading, so unloading happened faster.
Enjoyed watching, hoping you have a great harvest!
So far, so good! 👍👍👍👍👍 Glad you enjoyed the video.
I agree with you Charlie I’ve been drying 25% corn because the weather has been too 💩 to keep doing beans. Mother Nature can get ugly this time of year 🤦♂️
Yeah, I agree. I have about 60% of my corn off. You just never know about the weather and rains this time of year. So, I agree we're both doing the right thing.
Already getting 2 days of weather to be able to get in the fields then 5 days of rainy weather around here. So its tome to get it if you can dor sure
Yeah, that's why I got started, even though the moisture was a little high, wanted to keep ahead of the bad weather. Thanks for stopping by.
Pa Farmer Charlie .Best comment n reply was about the natural gas .Do you have a standby generator You can convert farm gas tractors over to natural gas n diesel engines can run on a percentage of it to cleanup emissions n wouldn't impaired the performance like DEF does it's a simple fix
We don't get enough free gas to do that. My dad negotiated for enough to run 3 houses, heating, hotwater, etc. - we don't have enough to operate farm tractors too, without having to buy it from the gas company.
Charlie that's got to be a awesome feeling is start getting your harvesting started ✅ thanks Michael
Yes, it sure is. Harvest is my favorite time of the year. Thanks for watching and commenting, Michael.
PA GRAIN FARMER
how come your neighbour gets free gas?
Is there a government subsidy?
Most of the farms in our area have natural gas wells on them. They were drilled over 40 years ago. Generally, getting free gas was part of the lease agreement for the drilling rights. I get free gas as well. The government has nothing to do with it.
That's nice to not have a large drying expense. Everybody here uses propane
I bet that gets expensive.@@AgWildNebraska
