Dude oh my gosh I’ve watched like 15 videos tried so many random factory codes, etc and this worked perfectly. My wife and I travel for work and stay in rooms for weeks at a time and NEEDED this!!
This helped a lot, but there is an even better solution: Don't unplug the set top box. With the hotel remote, navigate to Stream>HDMI Direct Connect and press OK. This will allow you to connect your device via the HDMI 2 port on the set top box (the port closest to the USB ports). I connected an old Roku no problem. Volume controls work just fine. Here's another tip if you travel a lot; bring a universal remote. I've had good luck with GE brand remotes, about $10. I can control my Roku with it, as well as program it to the specific TV brand to control power, volume, etc. It's especially useful at hotels where the remote doesn't allow you to change inputs, and don't have controls on the set, either. Marriott hotels seem to be tougher, in this regard, but they do allow you to connect HDMI to the set top box. Perhaps it was put into a subsequent update, but it's there!
Thank you for sharing! I didn't have that option when I made this video, but it sounds like there are lots of small variations depending on the hotel. Hopefully this will help someone out!
I am at an AC Marriott and the TV is completely flush with the wall so almost impossible to disconnect AC power. I just read this after struggling for 30m and realizing the same: connect HDMI cable to cable box on HDMI2. remote->input_button, select HDMI2. This worked like a charm with my 2018 Macbook Pro.
This was a ridiculously frustrating start to what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away. I spent two frustrating hours trying to figure this out before I finally resigned myself to just purchasing Netflix since they didn't allow me to access my choice of streaming services that I actually use. I'm still extremely frustrated and considering never staying at a Marriott again after having wasted so much time on something that should've been so simple and straightforward, but thank you so much for posting this video!
Nice straightforward simple fix. It worked wonderfully. I watched numerous other UA-cams with complicated solutions...that did not work. You're the best!🎉
Thank you! We followed your steps. Also, picked up a programmable universal remote delivered from Walmart for $8 and turned down the volume as well as controlled HDMI input.
Addition for Amazon Fire Sticks: go to Settings > Equipment Control > Manage Equipment > TV > Change TV > and you can set your remote to handle the volume issue! (Also, thank you SO much for this video!)
Dude. I have a 9 month old who’s obsessed with specific shows so we brought the Roku with us and it was stuck on 100 volume with no way to adjust it. This video saved our weekend 😂 thank you so damn much
I'm at a Fairfield Inn, and the tvs are flush with the wall so can't unplug/ access the set top. However, the only way I've found that works is unplugging the HDMI coming from the set top onthe TV and using that as the port. It works, but it's the least accessible port and hard to plug in. Kind of have to fish around for a few minutes which is annoying if you want to switch from TV to your HDMI. Weirdest thing, I didn't even know you could 'bypass' TVs base functions. I guess the best solution would be a universal remote.
This worked!!! Thanks. Had a Samsung TV at a Residence Inn. HDMI port worked for my fire stick but volume was on 100, bonvoy remote would not work with volume to change. Followed your steps and was able to change volume with fire stick remote. Thank you!
Thanks so much, saved us big time. With ours, I just had to unplug a small phone cord on the back of the TV then plug our Blu-ray player into HDMI 2. That way we got both TV and movies whenever we wanted.
Thank you for your video. My room's set top box is secured behind a metal cover that is part of the TV wall mount. It is inaccessible less I unscrew parts of the mount. I am not willing to do this. I unplugged power from the back of the TV, then unplugged the serial and HDMI cable. I connected my device to the TV's HDMI 1 port that was previously in use. A different approach with the same results. Thank you.
It's as simple as connecting HDMI to the set-top box. I stay at the Marriott Hotel every week because of my business trip. I always watch TV by connecting my Roku to a set-top box.
Holy fuck u have done it u have saved me an agonizing 3 weeks of not being able to play my playstation while i travel for work THANK YOU! Your off hand comment abt the joystick just saved me BIG TIME
Select the HDMI direct connect option from the TV menu under stream then plug your HDMI into one of the set top box HDMI ports (only one of them, whichever is designated as HdMi 2, will work!!!). Now you can still control the volume and be connected
If the hotel offers Wi-Fi access for guests, I think most consoles support captive portal pages nowadays. Those are the pages you have to open and agree to the terms and/or provide your name and room number to before you can access the internet. That's worth a try. If not, your best bet would be to tether to your phone via Wi-Fi and use your mobile data, if your cell phone plan has unlimited data and allows tethering. I wouldn't recommend connecting to random networks or anything like that. I haven't been in a hotel which offered a wired internet connection in a long time, but if one is available, that's your most reliable and simplest option.
Thanks man, unfortunately doesn't work for me, without power in set-top box or control cable it shows only black screen. Stream button on the remote seems to be deactivated, it makes no response 😞
It sounds like they may have set their TV system up to be as hostile as possible to personal devices. That's a bummer, I'm not sure what else to suggest.
I know this a little late but… if you hold that power button down on the tv for about 5 seconds then release you get a menu for volume, channel and source that only requires presses and holds to manipulate. EZPZ
@@matt-be8lc yeah it’s getting tough these days. Honestly the universal remote works like 99% of the time so that’s what I do these days. Whatever method you use, Remember, you have to: 1. remove all cables that are plugged into the TV(and leave them unplugged) except power. 2. then unplug the power cable for about 10sec and plug it back in 3. then do the button trick or use a univ. remote
Dude. This comment! Upvote x100. I stay at marriotts all the time. Some properties have different setups and don’t have the HDMI inputs on the box thing accessible or don’t have a menu option to access them (Aloft properties usually). I just plug my device into the tv where the box plugs in, but then I run into the volume = 100 problem. I never knew you could hold the power button and access the secret controls! Super life hack. Thanks you for posting this.🍻
I messed with everything. Remote stopped responding even to the box. Maintenance reset the tv basically to factory. I should've paid more attention to how
I figured it out which allows the volume to work as well as the fire stick when you select direct hdmi connection from the menu. Simply detach the hdmi to hdmi adapter from the fire stick and connect the lone hdmi fire stick adapter directly into the hdmi port on the set top box.
Are you sure your PS4 is using a sound format that the TV can accept? It's possible you're trying to use Dolby or DTS Surround; try forcing your sound format to PCM Stereo (or the PS4 equivalent) and see if that fixes it. If not, my recommendation would be to grab some headphones and listen to the audio through the controller instead. It can be hard to diagnose that sort of issue without seeing it in person, and that should be a reliable workaround.
I think they're hoping it'll help drive pay-per-view entertainment through their own system, which is strange, because most of us are trying to play video games, which they don't offer.
If the hotel supplied remote doesn't have a button for that, your best bet is to try and access the TV's menu through the physical button(s) on the TV itself. You may have to experiment; I know a couple of folks in the comments have mentioned various ways they've been able to get there.
Guys, if you just go to the menu, scroll down to “my media” click ok then there’s an hdmi direct connect option, and it lets you use it. Yall think too hard
I've come across the same set top boxes at other hotels with different TVs connected, and it seems the volume behavior is up to the individual TV. In all cases, I've been able to change the volume with the remote, but not every TV seems to default to full volume after powering on without the STB connected.

That's awesome, I'm so glad this helped!
It really got me right here at my stay, however now I can’t turn down the volume. It’s locked somehow?

My set top box only has 1 hdmi hook up smh
This is the only method that’s worked for me and I’ve tried 6 different hotels!!! Thank you so much!!!!

Very helpful, still works. Not sure why hotels bend over backwards to make their TVs less usable
It's really not that complicated; they wanna do everything they can to encourage you to buy their on-demand media.
Yeah but what do I do with the 100 sound??? Its brutal.
Thank you! We followed your steps. Also, picked up a programmable universal remote delivered from Walmart for $8 and turned down the volume as well as controlled HDMI input.
The universal remote works, but I also have a comment above if you want to do it through your fire stick.
Gonna be here for a month starting today after a long flight with a beer and my family. It’s time to game and you saved me a lot of time 🙌🏾
Glad I could help! Game on!

How did you get the volume to come down?
Thank you so much! My main issue was not being able to control volume with switch. Didnt realize the box was there! Just had to plug it into that!

Damn, seems the new LGs in this Fairfield Inn even disable the power button. It doesn't do anything when I press or hold it.

Wow 🔥🔥🔥🔥 this solved the 100 Volume problem
The tv is secured onto a wall and the plugs are really tight behind it

@@RestoreRevise Exactly and their HDMI option for gaming wasn’t even picking up my device 🙃
God bless you 💕💕
When I do this it says loading then it puts the menu back up

Unplug and plug tv power plug then use remote control turn on tv again, you will return to normal control volume
