This is awesome. As someone with dyslexia and reading difficulty, I find it overwhelming to read and run pre written adventures. Being able to listen it as i am taking notes helps so much absorbing the information and i am looking forward to running this adventure. Thank you

    Great Oneshot:
Quick, self contained, with a bunch of choices, hints, and tricks baked in and soo many adventure branches that can sprout from this.

The is some good fantasy right there. I can see lots of adventure hooks to segway off of this.

Love these new vids. To hell with Hasbro. Fans need to be flexible. It may hurt to leave franchises, but if we don't power shifts away from creative artists and toward the corporate vampires who simply suck off old copyrights for sustenance.

AJ, I don't play D&D anymore, and haven't in many a long eon, but in my undeath, I really enjoy listening to all your work as the centuries pass, oh so slowly. Much better then doom scrolling , or plotting on how to destroy this list and forgotten plane. Very impressive ... for a mere human.

    4/5
I would have left one Coblynau (goblin) merchant protecting two females in the goblin village to warn the PCs that the gutgobblers were goblins twisted by what lies ahead into ravening beasts. He would offer them two sacks containing 20 lbs of fine salt for safe passage the way the adventurers came, telling them that it stops the evil.
It would be humorous to see them try to use the salt to stop the iron spider if they accept his offer.

@@AJPickett I caught the live stream for this one about 10 minutes after it ended. It wasn't what I expected from that brainstorming.
The Red Caps as a sort of blood golem from the victims of what could be described as a sort of murder nymph (instead of beauty) was definitely a nice twist. That puts a whole lot more possibilities out there for the traditional nymph.
I was picturing the trolls being more like Prachett's trolls instead of the WotC trolls. That would make them poor food for the pool, because they don't have blood.

That is easily one of the most grotesque, fun explanations for Redcaps I've ever seen.
Personal DM instinct says allow the party to find *some* solution that rescues both the trolls and the humans, but how easy that might be, well.
Also, the sheer fun of leaning into Illithid tech. "This is ages more advanced than anything anyone can produce." Well of course it is. So were the Illithids. Penumbra always struck me as a name for a *time* more than a place.
And yet I've never seen that angle explored before. That the robot can be pathed to help in the final encounter if the players are clever is just great game design.

  • @coreyeaston6823

An interesting moral delema. Save the townsfolk, but condem the trolls to a monsterous existance.
Personally I might add (or as a player, explore) a third but much more difficult alternative.
Using the bloodpool before it disolves as baptismal cleansing that might have longer term effects; but requires the party have gathered or collected specific information or items.

Troll has a different meaning between English and the Scandinavian languages. Since this is system agnostic, you can forget the WotC variant and make them like Pratchett's or Tolkien's trolls. In Scandinavia, troll is somewhat synonymous with fey.

As a geologist I can imagine the gameplay that could be had by controlling the iron construct. Pretty handy, probably even get the attention of the local and very paranoid dwarves. And what happens when the not illithids come back and want their machine back?

@@AJPickett I literally search for your videos to give me ideas for any monster I put in game. Numbers are easy for me but 'good story telling' is hard. I can setup any gaming mechanics I need but I can't tell a story to save my life. You are the reason my players put up with me! They know if they slog threw enough encounters with Cray the Craftsman and Bob the Builder encounter they will eventually reach the stolen gold that is an AJ Pickett (totally ripped off) Gold or Platinum level encounter that brings everything that is amazing in a TTRPG to the table able has them all bowing at my feet as the greatest GM every, while I secretly weep knowing it's all really your work taken to make mine better. You are amazing, and please know that I will continue to steal credit forever more lol & JK!

It is generic fantasy, no rules system, no world setting, so it is adaptable for any fantasy game, and the monsters will never be out of any existing monster manual, I just let the story go where it goes and make the monsters to fit what I need. (I will make some videos covering more made up lore for places like the Iron Wood and the origin of some of the monsters)
