The 1090 has a much better front end on the dirt and much stronger tubeless rims than the soft tubeless rims on the 1190. It's reduced cc with less reciprocating weight makes it more chuck able on the dirt but is of no consequence on the road. The 1190 has noticeably more grunt but worse fuel consumption. There saved you the bother of watching the video.
I have both.of them.... trust me not much diffrence center stand is a must off roading or simple chain maintance! 1190r feels more comfortable on high way sharp corners.... suspension is softer.... They both great bikes throw some wider footpegs for better foot stering
How was the 950/990 in comparison? I'm looking for a sport touring twin and try to stay on road but live in Cabo San lucas, MX now. Cory Call AFM racer said the 1290 electronics are junk. Sure the BMW X1000R is a great bike but I love the rumble of the twin which limits options. Had a V-Strom....meh. Scraped the exhaust pipe constantly while cornering.
I too have a 950. I'm thinking of 'trading up'. What are your reasons for saying that keeping your 950 was the best thing you ever did? I too am very fond of my 950. It's the bike I've owned the longest in my 40 years of riding but am thinking of thinning out the herd a bit and selling 2 or 3 bikes and putting the money towards an 1190/1090 (probably not the 1290...too big). Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Cheers. Haggis.
You guys are horrible journalists. Fail to mention so many key factors of each bike. Especially the new suspension on the 1090 and how you can easily add the center stand and 12v outlet.. Rookie's.
I REEEeeally hope KTM bring the 1290 S to the U.S. market next year. Perhaps after they get done dumping all the leftover stock. My local dealers have the 1290T marked down to $18,300 and the 1190 down to $12,500. Great deal for sure but I am going to hold out for the new 1290S that is on the roads in Europe. I personally think the "new Guy" did very well with the video. All the haters should go stand in front of a camera and try it.
Wow, this is the most objective review I have seen yet! Pretty horrible! Can't believe these guys call them selves 'Moto journalists' The differences between the bikes (which are both exceptional machines) have more to do than with the price and weight. Yes, changes were made to be more competitive with the Africa twin, but they were also made to fill a void in the line up where the more off-road focused riders are... the suspension had pretty important improvements over the 1190, and that can make a huge difference to riders who will actually use the bikes off-road... (not these two!) There was NO MENTION of this??!!?? Also, buying a more simple/less expensive bike for off-road allows the rider to spend that money they saved on the accessories and upgrades that will best suit their needs... Do more homework before you review! Unfortunately this is why reviews are not the way to make your decision! May or may not help educate potential buyers (in this case not). TEST RIDE!
That Johnny Berns character taking a jab at some former employee owing money is low, irrelevant, terrible way to introduce a new team member and why I won’t return to this channel.
John Burns is a respected motorcycle journalist, who's opinion and humor I value in equal measure. For many years. I think the new guy is doing a great job, especially it being his first video. Don' t mind the trolls. These sorry losers have nothing better to do with their lives than picking on others, so they can forget about their own shitty existence. 😉 Keep up the good work guys!
at 2:03 he says the stock headlight was really bright? were you smoking crack ? I have bought flashlights from the dollar store that put out more like than the stock headlight
Can't for the life of me figure out what KTM was thinking in dropping the displacement and features? Don't know why bike makers do this!?! How about just keep the 1190....improve reliability....lower the price if you've priced yourself out!
Crappy vid, sorry guys. When is someone going to do a real test and compare the Ducati Enduro and the 1290 SA R? Lets see them both ACTUALLY OFF ROAD. Maybe Chris Birch could lend a hand??
kinda agree, i'm more confused now then after watching...lol btw this is charles righting this review, 33 years riding experience, owned over 13 bikes, raced street for 6 years, countless off road miles, and yes...i've owned 2 ktms in recent years. just think this vid is lacking
you must have a terrible dealer near you. i've owned 7 KTMs, never done anything but oil and tires. I've also worked for one of the top KTM dealers in the country, our service was top notch KTM techs and with the exception of the occasional back ordered parts (which yamaha is FAR worse) we always had parts in under a week.

Power of the 1190 is nice when riding with my sport bike friends.
Doesn’t the weight advantage the 1090 has just happen to be the same as the weight of the Centre stand they didn’t put on it?
not a word on how better the suspensions and rims are for offroad on the 1090R ?
wow!
When I got my 119OR, I kept my 950 Adventure. Best thing I did.

What about the difference between the actual 1090 and the actual 1290 both R models?

The new stronger rims and the suspension improvements .., theres the 2 grand difference right there.
But but but... the 12v plug!
Jason Perry I love how they kept bringing up the 12v plug. That's the easiest mod on a bike
Great chemistry between these 2..... NOT
Hopefully the 1090 doesnt suck dirt into the motor like the old 1190.
the 4k is glorious thank you

I picked up my 2016 1190 for 12,500 on close out when the dealership was bringing in the 1090
Daniel Pritchett Did you get the R or the S?
Sam Lyles they had both but I got the s model
Daniel Pritchett That is the one I am going for. It seems like there are still a bunch out there.
Sam Lyles yeah for the amount of commuting I do the s model was a better choice for what I do
Little bit of a weight difference looks like pound.

I'm pretty sure they don't have the same electronics, the 1190 has lean-sensitive cornering ABS which the 1090 does not.
They mentioned that difference a couple times.
Good review, good channel.

still wanna know how you got over your old stutter duder
What is the helmet model the owner of the 1190 has?
Where are Troy and Tom now??
They left owning them money.. maybe in jail now?
KTM should have kept the 690adventure. I liked that bike a great sub 350lbs enduro with plenty of power.
Tough crowd, great video

Hey great video!
I have a real quick question, are the panniers tray the same for the two models?
Thanks!
Can I get back to you on that one?
@@jaycspeedier5507 Yes, please.
@@filippoconte1532 Would a reply in another two years be acceptable?
A motocicleta 🏍 que eu desejo ter em minha garagem. Linda e formidável. Parabéns!
What happened a the end of the video....I fell asleep!

Older guy is tough to listen to. Channel is over now. I wouldn't listen to that guy describe a cup of coffee let alone a motorcycle.
Why would you listen to anybody describe a cup of coffee?
yeah there are nice but you need personal mechanic with them too lol no ty
Older guy is very annoying to listen to. This channel is over
are you a racist? hahahaha....welcome to the 21st century
"Are you fucking racist" 2017 everyone
boring
Why do they make these bikes so tall? These bikes are so heavy they cant even climb rocks so why make them so freaking tall?
the'll climb rocks, dunes, and hills plenty fine, believe me
...ground clearance
Same reason they make sport bikes so small bigger people need something
unsubscribed!
KTM the most unreliable bike on this planet with very little dealer backup and parts will arrive after 6 months for your broken bike.

I think people who say that are usually the people who cant afford to own one im saving for a 1190 myself havnt heard of these being unreliable.
