Russ, your video convinced me which Pard to buy. Thanks for that because now I have been able to compare the differences between 50 and 70. Keep up the good work
That's great to know Eddy, hope you like using it? I'm editing our comparison video between the gen.1 and gen.2 DS35-70RFs, and am about to record a nighttime comparison (tomorrow) between the gen.1 and gen.2 DS35-50RFs. Then I'll join Bruce shortly to record a daylight comparison between the latter two. Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
hi russ ii bought thepard ds35 70 mm in the endwill have to look at the lazer splash to see if i need no limit mounts ,your doing a great job you and bruce keep it up chears
Horses for courses, I can see the advantage of the 50 for sub 12 but thankfully (for me😊), still very happy with my 70. Thanks Russ, been waiting for this one! All the best, Gary.
My pleasure Gary, very glad to hear this is useful for so many folk. Thanks for watching and feel free to share this vid to spread the word. 😇🙏 Cheers. Russ
Heyup Russ, I quite like the 70 RF, I'm using the ATN X-sight 4k at the moment, but the Pard 70 RF is definitely food for thought, thanks for another quality review & maybe see you at the show on Saturday ? Best Regards Jon 👍 Hawkes Eye TV 👍
Hi russ,im here back looking at your pard v alpex video again.👌just cant wait for you to get your hands on the new alpex 4k lrf to compare it to DS35 and maybe the original alpex.the new 4k should be the ultimate all rounder with a low base mag of 3.5 and a high end of 28 ,i think.i have the DS35 70 and getting the urge to go for the 4k lrf but would like to see its capabilities and menu/function demo.Topclass as usual russ ,👍🇮🇪
One year later I’m still still coming back to this video to check the ds35 lut. Have a nv007v 12mm today and it certainly does the job well but curious if this dedicated scoope does it even better?
Thanks for watching, please share. 🙏 I've now replaced my DS35-70RF with a gen.2 DS35-70RF for its more sensitive sensor and excellent LED IR, but I preferred the image through the gen.1 DS35-50RF to the gen.2 -50RF so returned the latter post-review. I love the eye relief, all-in-one dedicated capability and long-range performance of the -70RF... also worth serious consideration is the new Arken Optics Zulus ZHD520R. Whereas the new (out next month) Zulus ZHD312R is lower mag/wider angle, for shorter range use. All the best, cheers. Russ
The Alpex does have a wider field of view for short-range use than either DS35 though, and some prefer that. 🤷🏻♂️ The new/upcoming HIKMICRO Cheetah is a smaller, lighter unit than the Alpex but with the same sensitivity, and will be available with IR and LRF. 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Hi Russ I’ve watched your videos and they are very informative but have you thought about doing a video on a complete setup of the pard ie measurement from scope to barrel etc for the ballistic calculator as I presume I’m not the only one who find it hard to do and I presume there’s a easier way. Thanks Rob.
Hi Rob, I might well do if there's demand for that. I usually measure the dia of the rifle shroud and scope objective, plus the separation, then ½ + ½ + separation. Then I do a gross error check/sense check on the result, to make sure it looks sensible. Thanks very much for watching, cheers. Russ
Hi Russ great review mate , As the DS 35 has been out over a year now do you think or have you heard of another latest edition coming out in the new year As I don’t want to by one yet if there’s a upgrade coming out say in 3 or 4 months time .. thank you.. keep the content coming 😊
Thanks Simon, nothing I know-of and the gen.1-gen.2 update issue was due to SGC proactively wanting to bypass any possible issues with VCSEL IR illuminators. The next thing I'm looking forward-to is the hot new four-in-one multi-spectral Pard TD32-70. 🤓😍 Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
@@RussDouglas222 Hi Russ thanks for getting back mate, Ok I wait a few months see if anything New comes out in the new year before I decide what to buy . Look forward to the review on the TD32 70 ..have a great weekend..
Hi excellent video but in real life would you say the pixelation in daylight is much better than say a Sightmark wraith 4k mini only because I have one.!
Hi Andy, sorry I've not yet been able to borrow a 4k mini for review, so I don't yet know how they compare, by day or night. Hopefully I'll be able to do this soon. 🤞 Cheers. Russ
Thanks Karl, think you're gonna love it... though the 150 rats in two hours (two weeks ago at the waste tip) didn't love me directing the Krait at them. 🤭 Cheers. Russ
@@karlwright7883 Ah I know what you mean, in my local perm's grain barn I might see and shoot five, before it all goes very quiet. The one time recently I hung around longer while reviewing the DS35-70RF, I eventually shot 12 in three hours at -3.5°C, after waiting long enough for them to reappear after each lull. I did that as someone told SGC the -70RF "didn't work in the cold", but trust me it does 👌 although my left leg isn't great at it. 🥶 Cheers. Russ
Hi Russ, perhaps it's me, but I'm failing to see either of the PARD's zoom in or out smoothly. They always seem to jump from min to max in one step and back again. Is this the case, or do they possess the ability to zoom in and out smoothly? Thanks in advance.
@@BollockyBiker I believe they can zoom more smoothly with a firmware update, but I haven't updated either of mine, to keep the IR on full power, so they still only do base mag or zoomed. Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Great comparison Russ, which scope would you recommend for hunting rabbits, the ds35/70 with it's higher magnification or the ds35/50 ? I am using sub 12ft/lb air rifles.
Thanks Martin, for sub-12 ranges I'd say the DS35-50RF (and the greater FOV offers much better view for spotting at base mag of 4x/8x), whereas the -70RF offers more magnification for longer range work (5.6x/11.2x). Cheers. Russ
Thanks for an awesome review. Been looking for one comparing these scopes. Is there s similiar review coming comparing the Pard with the Alpex at night? Would be greatly appreciated 🙏
I haven't recorded one directly comparing the DS35 & Alpex at night, but in a week or so I'll record and publish a ratting video with the DS35-50RF that everyone can compare directly with my existing Alpex ratting footage. 👍 Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Thank-you, I bought the DS35-70RF for my .22" FAC PCP, though after filming my DS35-70RF (gen.1 / gen.2) comparison (which I'll start editing today), I sold the gen.1 and bought the gen.2. So out to 100m-150m I prefer the gen.2 DS35-70RF. Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
Hi there, I haven't tried the ATN with ballistic calculator, but knowing it weighs about 1.5kg all-in (which is double the weight of the DS35), I'd rather use the DS35-50RF; the DS35-70RF is half the FOV of the -50RF, so it's far more suited to longer range use, where its image is still nice and sharp. For short-range ratting use the HIKMICRO Cheetah is double the FOV of the Cheetah, and similar weight to the DS35s. 🤷🏻♂ Thanks for watching, cheers. Russ
I remember a mate of mine called Glen he was a great hunter using a hw80 he owned for years... He would always shoot game food for his family always head shots great marksman.. A real instinct for a one shot kill... He was married with two young children and one on the way money was always tight so hunting always put fresh meat on the table.. And a labourer job for money... Any how his wife had the new born baby two days after his beautiful wife died of a massive bleed on the brain.. Devastating outcome for him and he told me he would never shoot another thing saying it was retribution for all the years of killing for food... I always told him that it was better to kill your own food at least you know you killed with humanity not for fun..... But he told me he would never kill again...
Sorry for your buddy's loss, but I feel if you hunt humanely/ethically you're treating animals far better than they are when destined for mass-produced processed food, and it'll be better for you (and nature) too. 🤷🏻♂️ All the best, cheers. Russ
Russ, I read a lot that the Pard DS35 gives a lot of firmware problems on some forums. Do you have any experiences with that? I read that some are going to use the old firmware again to fix setup problems. Have you heard more about that?
