no Chrono Trigger is the best snes rpg...lol BoF is second.
Ryu transforming into dragons. The last two dragon iterations had amazing artwork in the game.
I always thought the isometric battle view was pretty awesome, that and the dragon forms.
I love, this game 2...when I was young i,was really into all these game's. Most of these game you talk about I have. Some times multiple copies on different systems...all these game's was my life back then.
It was the most nostalgic game to me. 28 yrs old and I remembered child memories from playing this game. A classic game that should have had more praise
The problem with too many encounters can be solved though in the SNES version. You can buy the Mrbl3 item to lower your encounters, and it sells for super cheap in the game. So if you are worried about there being too many encounters, you shouldn’t be.
I grew up on breath of fire and im deeply saded because of one flop there was no others for so many years ; ;
BOF is most definitely one of the best RPGs ever on SNES. CAPCOM needs to make a remake of this game.
i agree
@@hanon2012 💯
This was my first RPG!!! 😍😍😍
Curing Nina from amnesia and then Fly with her was mindblowing for me
Dude, your channel has single-handedly gotten me back into the snes-era RPGs. I always loved FF3 and 7, but never really dived deep like I should have.
I applaud you for you efforts at telling the story of these games and why they were so special. Thanks Xygor!
Right on, super glad to hear that! There will be a lot more upcoming reviews you'll enjoy too.
Starting same journey now. Got a chipped mini SNES. Starting this game now lol
Absolutely love this game. Love turning into dragons and fusing guys. And the different modes of travel and overworld games. Plus the music! So good.
6 RPGs? you're counting the mobile flop?
Been waiting all day for this to go live.
The only game that can give me a feeling of nostalgia (BoF4). But damn does it hurt when I remember BoF5&6.
I got BOF along with FF6 (3) on Christmas of 94, when I was in eighth grade. I was so excited about FF6 and had never even heard of BOF before then. The clerk at Walmart told my mom I would love it, so she got it on a whim, and I'm forever grateful she did. I love it still to this day.
BoF2 was nice on GBA. That's when I found out about Breath of Fire.
Ah Breath of Fire. My first JRPG series. The series which made me fall in love with video games in general. My personal favourite is BoF 2, however. Some of the themes in that are pretty advanced for the time it came out in, and it's surprising it even saw a worldwide release with little, if any, censorship. Also, it has a worse localization than the origial BoF :P
That being said, my favourite part in the original BoF (spoilers) is:
When you get your first dragon power. You get after the super difficult boss fight with the gremlin, and walking into the dragon temple, then duelling the guardian to be bestowed with the ability to transform into the basic dragon younglings was such a cool moment. And the dragon forms themselves were SO cool. Loved it ever since.
Ah my very first RPG. The music of this game brings me back to hanging out with my best friend. One of my All time favorite games of all time. This, Breath of Fire 2, Lunar, Lunar 2, and Final Fantasy Tactics are my Fav RPGs ever and they really bring me back.
The music immediately snaps you back in time, excellent soundtrack.
Totally!
BoF was my very first RPG. I got it from a person my father sent to Japan. When he came back he had some games to sell and I choose BoF. It was the japanese version so I couldn't understand anything, but I fell in love with it immediately. That's my favorite RPG franchise to this day.
I always loved bow’s fusions and the de
Dragon forms but oddly one of the things that I always remembered was how they Keys that were supposed to be items of great power actually could be used as items
Man, I remember being introduced to both Breath of Fire 1&2 on the Gameboy Advance. It was one of my first RPG games alongside Golden Sun! 🥹
I never played it back in the day, but it was on my radar. Now BoF 1 and 2 are both on Nintendo Switch Online. I'd like to check them out when I can.
Oh my God, I heard the music and got goosebumps, I'm in my mid 30s, and this was the very first rpg I ever played. I used to read my moms old 1st and 2nd edition D&D books as a kid and my imagination ran wild! Then I played this and that was it! My mom was more of a Sci fi star wars nerd even though she loved LotR and the like (she had cats named Aragorn and Galadriel) but we used to argue when I was like 7 over who would win, Gandalf or Darth vader😂😅. This game taught me basic party management and battle tactics for later when I played harder games like ff6, 7, 10, etc. Thankyou for making this😊
Loved Breath of Fire 1+2 as a kid, but i think 2 holds more memories for me. Never got around to playing 3+4 which is a regret of mine
Right on, two classics on the SNES!
I remember renting this game so many times when I was a kid, and I never got too far because it was harder than most; at least for me. I was a much bigger fan of FF4 and FF6. Great video, would love to try this game now and see how I fare.
Grinding on that island for that giant gold slime so I can get max exp and gp!
Played 1&2 originally on SNES, good times, also have my copy of 3 for PS1 still... I've been wanting to replay 1&2 on Switch, but forget how long they are usually
I love the atmosphere and feel of this series. This game has a few secrets also
EZ SUB
FAVOURITE GAME OF ALL TIME, ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS IN MY CHILDHOOD AND STILL DO TODAY
always loved teh Breath of Fire game series up to number 3 after that can't say much about number 4 but after that ithe others i haven't played them, but loved the dragon powers though
I learned early on to stock up on MRBL3s. You can hardly take 2 damn steps without getting thrown into a long ass battle
So true!
The war for the sky over the tower was a great scene.
This was my first RPG. My mom would get her haircut and they had one Nintendo Power with BoF's strategy guide in it. They eventually let me have it and when I was 7 my brother got the rom. I think one reason why I played it was because it was early in the list of roms. I bought it on 3DS but I tried to buy a repro for SNES and it got lost in the mail and then the replacement was broken...
Breath of Fire is my all time favorite RPG. I loved how you could buy an item to keep you from meeting enemies.
I didn't play this one back in the day. I tried playing it a few years ago finally. And while it definitely has its place, and there are things that I do like about it, overall, I unfortunately didn't like the game as a whole. Enough that I actually gave up playing it.
My first Breath of Fire game, and the only one I completed, was the third one. Now that was a masterpiece.
love this channel. thank you
Thanks for watching it!
I still have BOF IV and Dragon Quarter I love this series
I hope you played Breath of fire 3
BoF made part of my teenage, I remember renting it at a local store just to keep playing it without losing my progress. The songs are incredibly good and I kinda prefer the BoF graphics over the BoF2. I really love the shop song.
Oh damn, I caught this at under 50 views!
One little tip: Ryu reads: Heeyou.
It hurts the ear whenever you speaks Raiou in all your BoF videos.
Loved this game. Played it for hours and hours on end! It's got some rough edges compared to other BoF games, but overall does a good enough job to kick off a series. I prefer the SNES original over the GBA version with a translation patch that fixes the dialog and item names. I consider it to be the best way to play the original.
I never played the first one, still to this day. Mostly cause I feel in LOVE with the second. My most rented game 'ever'. And then the 3rd I adore, but seem to be cursed to always have SOMETHING happen to the disk before the end game. Capcom should put some real effort into the series and give it a good and proper revival. not a mobile game or junk like that.
Huzzah for fishing in wells!!
I played BoF I & II on Switch. What really annoyed me the most was that the enemy health bar was sometimes a lie. You'd get it to 0 and the boss would just continue to soak up 1 or 2 more invisible health bars worth of damage. There was also an invisible maze puzzle in one of them that irritated me to no end. I would describe the BoF series as a whole as "beautiful, but flawed"; especially III & IV, which have gorgeous sprites. I'm glad to have played them, but I'm in no rush to re-play them.
BoF 1, 2 and 3 are awesome
I was introduced to rpg due to the snes but I missed this one. Luckily switch has both games on their catalog.
This came up and I'm actually working on the game again...
Breath of Fire 2 is rad af
Is this a reupload?
I honestly don't remember what I posted the first time
Yes, there was a technical issue with the first one
@@Xygor Okay, thank you. It just gets confusing when you have the bell rung and you set up premieres.
I get like 3 notifications... one saying that it's about to premiere. One saying that it premiered... and one saying you have a new video.
So it showed up six times in total because of the issue.
For me, the best part of BoF1 was the variety of the cast members. While there's a strong base game in there, the sequel was an improvement in every single way
Breath of fire was my favorite game as a kid breath of fire 2 was also pretty good didn’t go any further than that though
Don't forget to equip your SLM CLK. Without a Slime Clock how can you expect to defeat the Dark Dragons?
Haha, nice!
I remember falling in love with Karn's fusions. While BoF2 is vastly superior I still think fusions were WAY better in BoF1
When i found this game in a drawer set i bought at a thrift store. Bought it for 5 bucks and spent weeks trying to beat it as a 10 year old lol. I dont think i got pretty far
i have most of the breath of fire music in my playlist
Dude I just beaten that game not too long ago
Man, when I was little, I wasn’t privy to the concept of grinding. I would end up replaying the same map/dungeon multiple times until I inadvertently become strong enough to beat the boss. 🤦🏿♂️
Breath of Fire is a great rpg series on both Super Nintendo and PlayStation. I could only play the first three games but they were very good games. Not as good as Final Fantasy V/VI and Chrono Trigger, but I liked them. I hope that Capcom will bring us Breath of Fire 6 one day.
Breath of Fire 6 already exists, but it flopped (with good reason).
@@SeventhheavenDK Thanks for the information. I watched a gameplay video of the game. Now I wish I had not. ^^
Breath of fire is a great RPG...I HAVE THE FIRST 4 GAME'S
Love your vids! Gonna hvae a fun little nitpick on you here :)
"Character development similar to FF IV"
I love BoF for nostalgic reasons, but let's be honest, no character has ANY development. Nobody has a personality! Gobi wants to make money, Ox... has a wife... that's about it.
Saying BoF has character development similar to FF IV seems like a flat out lie. Like, are you TRYING to get people to play the game and be disappointed? At no point is there a betrayal, or a change of motivation, or a scene where you watch a character... develop. The BoF characters are static - they can each be described in one sentence and it's the same sentence at the beginning of the game as it is at the end.
Try that with Cecil. Or Kain. Or Rydia. See what I mean? :)
As someone who was totally bored by FFIV, and totally loves BoF2 (BoF 1 also bores me) I have to accept that what you say is true.
"Of 6 rpgs" Uh sir....we don't talk about 6. We barely talk about 5. (Also please cover BoF2. It adds a lot to the game style and it came out a little later in the lifecycle of the snes)
Hell ya, Breath of Fire Forever!
I can get behind that!
I'd call the first BoF a solid B, and I don't mean that to sound negative at all. I played it multiple times back in the day and enjoyed it every time. Were the sequels largely better? Sure. But it has its own old school charm; BoF is the sort of older JRPG where exploration off the beaten path has its rewards, and even if the story isn't spectacular, there are some neat scenarios like Nina's introductory solo quest and having to go inside the giant robot.
This was my gateway rpg as a kid. Even though ff6 is my favorite snes rpg, breath of fire is probably my most replayed rpg of all time.
the greatest ,, still play it
Def one of the more under rated SNES games
Is it just me, or does Xygor sound alot like Super Derek??
In a World , where Secret of Mana exists, the only possible answer to this Question is:
No Sir! No, it is not!
I always liked breath of fire one more
Breath of Fire is pretty decent, but there are so many amazing rpgs on SNES that I wouldn't put it above middle of the pack, especially if you include Translations/SuperFamicom rpgs.
I think I like bof2 better than final fantasy on snes and I enjoyed BoF3/4 more than ff7-8 as the polygon box graphics bothered me too much. 😑
I wish they did a Breath of Fire 4 remake like the ff7 remake. But that's just me 🤷🏽♂️
"Ryu" (rhee-ew) actually means "dragon" in Japanese.
I mean it did have Chun Li in it....
I remember playing this when ot first came out. I thought back then of I remember right that when you got close to the end the story just sort of fell flat...kinda like secret of mana.
Neope, FFVI all the way!
This is a series that deserves a remake.
Naw they'll fuck it up
Why, so they can ruin it?
They already ruined my favorite FF game, and Capcom already ruined my favorite RE game (RE3), both of thrm because of the remakes. So, no thanks. The originals are there, and are still great, BoF series is no exception.
Breath of fire 4 has the best music graphics, and battle system. Yet, Breath of fire 3 steals the show because of its story.
That's what I thought. BoF3 was nice but 4 had the best graphics out of all of them. The character models during battles were perfect
@@gc1087 overall BoF3 is better for me but damn BoF4 had a great introduction- loved the anime opening and music.
@@stevenriddell595 I'm 50/50. I finished 3 but never 4...so there's that 🤷🏽♂️
I might have to finish 4 soon as it is one of my favorites.
I THREW MY DRAKKEN GAME AWAY....... IT JUST DIDN'T MAKE SENSE
It's not an RPG that I come back to often. But I do like it. Breath of fire 2 was my favourite.
Me too!
I find BoF2 more memorable than 1. However, my favorite one is BoF3.
To be honest, the only BoF games I liked were 2 and 3, the others not so much.
BoF 1 bored me. BoF 4 was just okay for me (nice graphics, tho, but that is not the most important aspect for me), and I prefer to pretend Dragon Quarter and the abomination of BoF6 don't exist.
a series of 6 rpgs? idk what you're talking about AFAIC Breath of Fire only has five games. Five. There's no Breath of Fire 6. Nope. Unexistant.
No.
Breath of Fire 1 was pretty meh to be honest; it had great visuals and very good music with decent (but flawed) gameplay, but the story was just...uggggh. Breath of Fire 2 is a lot better.
My feelings exactly.
Would appreciate if next time you can pronounce Ryu correctly as it is a Japanese name with said punctuation and accent.
Rue
As an english player, I appreciate his traditional 90's english pronounciation of the name.
