- 複数のメトロノームを動く台の上に乗せてメトロノームを動かすと，やがて全てのメトロノームが同期して同じタイミングで音を刻むことが知られています．
池口研究室では，メトロノームを乗せる台を左右から吊るすことで台が動くような実験装置を作成し，同期実験を行いました．本動画では100個のメトロノームが同じタイミングで音を刻みます．

このコメント(もちろん実験も)は含蓄に富むと思う。しいて言えば、社会の基盤はこの実験で言うところの台を吊る枠で安定している部分で、動いているのは政治か？（政治が動いて個々の差異を吸収するから向く方向が似通ってくる＝でそのうちガラパゴス化するということか？）
とか、逆に企業等で社員の足並みを揃えたいなら、基本の制度や目標のような何か動かさないものの上に、頻繁に動かして差異を吸収するような仕組みを作ってやればいいのか、とか・・・・・・なんだ、いわゆる臨機応変と言われているもののことかｗ
コンサートの後の拍手が同調してしまうのもこの原理か？（あと軍隊で橋が落っこちたやつもそうだよね）

"The energy transferred to the platform from each metronome starts out of sync, but the waveforms of the energy interfere with each other, and at the location of each metronome you end up with negative or positive waveforms which in turn have an effect on the interference pattern. This keeps going until there is a balance - this balance is only achieved when all of the metronomes are in sync. Digg says that this is unnerving. I guess because Westerners do not like conformance. On the other hand, the majority of Japanese comments below are positive. Agreed about the individualism vs. collectivism comment. But as people like Nietzsche argued, there are benefits to individualism too. I personally think Americans are too hyper-individualistic and lean toward a more collectivistic society myself, but it does also matter what everyone is actually agreeing upon (which is the 'unnerving' part). In Nietzsche's critique of 'herd mentality,' we homogenize society and belie the glorious exceptional outliers, which can push us to be better, as well as offer novel ideas.

I once saw a documentary with this in it, but I forgot what they were saying about it...
These are 100 autonomous systems all auto-synchronizing without any assistance or guidance. Think about it for a second... This is very significant from a mathematical and systems engineering perspective. This represents basic research and may not have any immediate application, but the fundamentals could apply to many different commercial or scientific endeavors in the future.

Nope, they are coupled. That platform is hanging from four strings. They all sync to the dominant mode because of this.

I can see at 1:12 that they are not synchronized. At 3:18, I'm not sure, but it seems that these 100 metronomes got synchronized in about 3 minutes. Let's call that the synchronization time. Question: does that time depends on the metronome setting ? E.g would it take more time for the metronomes to synchronize if they were set at 40 tick per minutes ? Does that synchronization time accept a sound mathematical definition ? Just curious.
I would guess that the tempo of the metronomes would interact with the resonant frequency of the free-moving platform they are all sat on, and so they would behave differently if the swinging platform were swinging on shorter or longer strings at the corners. I lack the space, time, or 100 metronomes to experiment with this idea for myself unfortunately.

I've heard that people's heartbeats tend to do the same, as well as women's menstrual cycles. Are they related? If so, under what principle? If you are a musician and have worked with trying to sync out-of-time individual tracks, you'll know that it certainly doesn't work in the digital realm.

There is a question of terminology. If each metronome was set at 120 beats per minute but started at differing parts of the cycle, I can see how they would eventually fall into a joint rhythm. However, the title mentioned "100 Metronomes Ticking at Different Speeds Fully Synchronize While Sitting Atop a Floating Table". There would have to be mechanical intervention to have them all gradually reach synchronisation. Which is the case?
in general, it's when they already share a frequency that there would be nothing to "see" , since thats when "the cycle" has truly become the one and only solitary cycle to speak of in the big picture, and where nothing else actually exists any longer with which to meaningfully compare that overall cycle with respect to its "differing parts" (called phase difference/shift/angle or usually just the phase).
so the answer can't be the former because it isn't really true, and it's then therefore always the latter that must be the case, just more gradually whenever it's less apparent

Can you make a few metronomes oscillate at multiple frequencies of others? There should be the same effect on twice the frequency for example. What about orienting metronomes radially to get a rotating oscillation in the plate?
