Price gouging is the most serious issue that most people either don’t know about or aren’t talking about. If corporations are reporting record profit margins it’s off the backs of the consumer, not because of inflation.
And aside from Trump's deep tax cuts for the rich, while small business pay more in taxes than big corporations do. I even noticed myself that the bag of lays potato chips have gotten smaller, and yet some times stores like Safeway would have a big sale for them at 2.50 each bag from time to time. Especially with mass machine production, it shouldn't cost so much to make. Are drivers hard to find? I also think it's about sales numbers too.

@@appletree9974 Ifn the Party of Stupid Cowards can get a clear majority in the house, 15-20 seats, and get 61 seats in the senate so the Party of Liars Cheats and Theives and stand in their way, the citizens will get a one time 2% wealth tax for those earning over maybe $5m. And raise the maximum tax to maybe 40% on the wealthiest residents of the country.
Me, I’d like to see the country have zero tax on the first $50k of income, including capital gains for everyone.
That way nobody can whine about “skin in the game since even Elon isn’t paying on his first $50k.
Then build the tax code on top of that.

As a Canadian senior who has rejected pharmaceutical medications in favour of natural cures for many decades, weed was never on my radar. But a few years ago I dealt with an extremely painful condition that limited my mobility and kept me up at night. None of my usual remedies made a dent in the pain, so as a last resort I indulged in my sons' evening blunt and found the peace of low-dose gummies and CBD lotion. I haven't needed any of it in about a year, but during the 18 months or so I was using them, they made my life bearable while I was building back my health. My preferred recreational drug is still a glass of organic red wine or a nice tequila shot with lime, but having access to the healing properties of marijuana has been a blessing.
@@kayecastleman6353 I think marijuana should be more accessible like OTC. I do find it concerning when you walk on a street in Toronto, you see more marijuana shops than convenience stores.

I think Senator Warren does an admirable job in both communicating her economic plans as well as explaining both why they matter and their potential in building a stronger economy with plenty of social safety nets and corporate responsibility.
Maybe you disagree with her policies and that's fine, but just because I disagree with someone doesn't mean I immediately have write them off as having no idea what to do. I just assume their goals and priorities are different than mine. What is it about Warren's policies you can't even given them any benefit of the doubt? Do you live in her state? How much control over the state economy does one of your two federal senators have?

Corporations are building apartments and pricing them unbelievably high to make money on write-offs rather than renting. Empty buildings are profit. And landlords are price gouging.
That building in downtown LA across the street from the crypto arena with new graffiti on 27 stories I applauded that because where is the Chinese businessman?? oh yeah he bounced. The state needs take that building and turn it into housing not only for lowing income people but for the homeless... because it’s just been sitting there as a blight on the city🤬👊
Yep, empty "luxury" apartment buildings are everywhere. Always plastered with "now leasing" signs. Even the street level shop space below says "your restaurant here", there's one down the street that's been empty for 3 years since the building went up. It's just a "loss" they can take as a tax write-off. Shouldn't be legal, period.
Where I live, rental companies are buying up huge plots of land on undeveloped desert, building houses, raising cost of living, and are threatening to raise the cost of renting their houses even more if people don’t start negotiating with their rentals soon. Home buying will be almost a thing of the past for my generation.
Where I also live, casinos are raking in record profit. In fact, they’re doing way better than ever before post pandemic and yet many union workers are living paycheck to paycheck. I doubt no one cares now that we’re hosting the NFL Super Bowl.

Senator Warren And Senator Bernie Sanders are treasures. They stick to the real issues and explain with excellent facts and information. They don’t best around the bush.
I love this human. Not cos she's a woman, and not because I agree with her, cos I don't always. But because whether I do or I don't, I believe she believes what she says. Or she just doesn't say anything at all. Give people more of this in our representatives - political and otherwise - people who can not only spell Respect without Aretha's help, but are prepared to live it, and watch people re-engage with their world.

I am now paying $300. a month more for the SAME apt. that in 2019 I paid for. My landlord increased my rent another $85.00 a month which amounts to 76% of my Social Security check.I worked 60 years until I reached 78 years old and retired. Of course I am a female and salaries were not equal to men.
I only have one political bumper sticker on my car and it's from her presidential campaign. I will always support her. I didn't always agree with her past policies but I've seen her change her stance when presented with new information and that shows me that she does research.
This. I have never understood why politicians are afraid to admit to personal growth. Maybe it's the boneheads who think admitting you were wrong is weak or some other kind of character flaw? Ego, man. Liz has nothing to prove and knows that learning and changing is absolutely a sign of strength. I will never not be so disappointed that she wasn't the nominee. I'm so glad Sen. Warren said what she said about housing. As someone who's in my 30's who still can't buy a house I really feel this. Most of my friends are in the same situation. No one should have to have two roommates just to afford to split rent in a basic apartment.

Ty to Senator Warren & Stephen Colbert for discussing this topic! States are making it legal, but that's not enough. For example, I'm a medically retired combat veteran in the great state of Ohio. So legally, if I want to use CBN gummies to get through firework season, I can. But. If I want to talk about that with my VA providers that's not cricket. They're federal employees and not all of them are (understandably) comfortable with that topic. Prescribing federal employees having federal guidance is needed.

The government needs to go after grocery stores. If things are REALLY so tough and you HAVE to keep prices high, then explain to me one thing. With all the high costs, how can you afford to create newer, smaller packaging? I've seen the costs to redo a single item, let alone a supermarket's ENTIRE store's brand.
And we really DON'T need more housing construction, at least not where I'm at. We have PLENTY of houses that are empty right now, simply because banks bought them as rental properties. However, there's nobody to properly manage the rentals, so places either get trashed and condemned. Or sit vacant month after month, because nobody can afford the rent. We will CERTAINLY need new construction after another year or so of tearing down condemned buildings...
And they're keeping prices hogh and introducing self check bc "they can't get help" . Yet, the market 10 blocks away has checkers AND baggers. Why? Unionized

@@LindaC616 I can't say that's true. I work in a union shop and don't get paid NEARLY what non-union shop (like CostCo or Sam's Club) employees do. CostCo keeps their employees because: a) they treat them right, b) the pay them right, c) they reward them properly.
The national avg. for a CostCo employee is between $18-$25/hr. That's almost $3-10/hr more than my union grocery job pays. Why? Because CostCo realizes the investment hiring someone involves, financially and logistically.
It used to be said it costs $5k to onboard and train someone. That's a lot of moolah, when you look at the turnover just in my store. Then, "the more you know, the more you can do on your own". Keeping experienced and trained employees makes all the difference in the world.
(BTW, the self checkouts are being pulled back some because of so much theft and security software issues...)

I bought my first home in 1986, when Ronald Reagan was president. My interest rate for 30-year fixed mortgage, with a ten-percent down payment, was 8.5%. That was a good rate in 1986. It is a high rate in February 2024. When I bought my first brand new car in 1985, average car loan interest rates were over 11%. One of the few good things about getting old is having a long-term perspective on things.
