There is a difference between growing trees and practice cultivation on slopes. Trees helps as they hold soil hence act as a barrier to land slide. What people do is that they cut these tress for doing farming which increases the risk of landslides.

there is no need to irrigate trees but there is need to irrigate agricultural crops , due to irrigation in slopes soils becomes loose which leads to landslides. trees helps in holding and binding soils which reduces landslides.
