  • Fork Creek Mill - Timberking 1400 Mill Upgrades and Automation
    This video consists of the installation of a 12 volt electrical system including a battery, battery holder, control box switches, fuse panel, wiring, solenoids, gears, electrical motor for log turner and a new 27 HP CH752 Kohler engine. Upgrades to the lubrication system included a new aluminum tank and solenoids tied into the clutch switch to turn on the fluid only when the blade is in operation.

    Awesome set-up! I'm planning on in near future to add a log turner to my mill too. Was thinking of using the arm with spiked end with double hydraulic cylinders. With the double hydraulic cylinders I can incorporate it as a log dog too. I already have a 12volt hydraulic kit that I have had for a bit. Just got to get the time to figure it out. Thanks for your videos.

      I thought about installing one of the 12 volt hydraulic kits it may be the better way to go. It certianly would be easier to use hydraulics for the log dog.

    I used cooking oil mix with the diesel and a little paint brush on the blade

      I have heard of automatic transmission fluid being added to diesel so the cooking oil should have the same effect at keeping the sap from sticking to the blade. The brush was a good idea.

    . Do you have a parts lists for the items added to your TK1400? I’m in need of doing something with the log turner as it is nearly impossible to turn the crank with a 24” by 20’ log.

    How thick do you normally cut your slabs and rounds

    • @davidpape9726
      @davidpape9726  Рік тому +1

      It can depend on the log but usually I like to plan for a finished 8/4 slab so I cut them 9/4 or 2 1/4" thick. There are times when a thinner slab of say 1 3/4" or 1 1/2" thick will yield an extra slab of a crotch section so I may proceed that way.

      I used a 2000# winch with a sprocket attached to it. There is a video for the log dog. ua-cam.com/video/qlceIex2m-M/v-deo.html

    Like the 27hp engine. I have the ch 730. If I upgrade, is shaft size the same for electric clutch, pulleys, same muffler etc. thanks. MM

      The new motor was a direct replacement which included the muffler, although the muffler exhaust was opposite to the original so added an elbow and turned it vertical. There are several other motors that also match all the way to 32 HP which is what I was going to go for but by the time I was ready to purchase during covid they were all gone so I purchased the CH752 from Timberking. You can find the specifications for all the motors on the Kohler website. There are several reviews on the 27 HP motor where there was an issue with the carburator fouling and needing rebuilding due to the redesign. I have practiced running all my equipment for a short time on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and have had no issues. I did have some surging issues at the start but it turned out the gas hose from the tank was to long and once it was shortened the surging went away. I am happy with it.

    My log stops are a hot mess as well. They seem to float and will not stay 90 degrees with the deck.

      I welded gussets to the brackets that hold them which helped but the brackets really need to be replaced with thicker metal.

      Log stops and log turner are the worst part of my 1400. That said I have to admit turning the water off and on is a pain in the a$$ also.
