@Geminicricketi obviously it differs by state but I know in NY I can think of 2 situations where that could happen and be legit. 1 a MHA is occurring and that is resisted. 2. Me and my boyfriend were once hit in a hit and run. We got the plate number and called 911 right away, and the woman who hit us was brought to the scene. Cops laughed and joked with her, while not allowing us to record the proof of the accident on her vehicle. Then they told us that we were trying to commit insurance fraud and that no report would be filed on the accident. Obviously they knew the woman, and no matter how much proof we had (911 call, medical records from our injuries, damage on the vehicles, etc) they claimed for 2 years there was no wrongdoing. They erased the evidence any crime had ever been committed from their records also. So corrupt and stupid.

From a family of cops. Had the same thing happen to me. Drunk driver hit and run. Washed down to a minor traffic offence. Found out later through subtle inquiries that the female driver was a very senior cop's daughter. I also must have made an impression on the local cops because the next time I called them for somebody having broken my car door in order to unsuccessfully steal it, I had two uniformed idiots attend and accuse me of damaging my car as part of an insurance fraud. My mom and bro brought the cops to court. 3.5k in pocket each after fees and all that. Not much, but enough to hopefully make sure it doesn’t happen again from that officer and/or department. I just don't get this. America is a high crime society. You Yanks blow each other away with guns on a daily basis. European cops are not like this. But US cops are scared you're all carrying loaded guns waiting to use them against the cops. Anyhow cops are scared. The whole country is armed. It's like a wild west movie, almost. Since the cops are scared and some cops are poorly trained and yet other cops are just bullies, it's best to obey them. You yanks are serious. You have your laws and you stick to them. In other countries the cop may turn a blind eye, and let you go, in the US they'll get you for a minor issue. But America is full of Americans. You guys know each other. So how come, you don't know that resisting arrest will get you in trouble. Your police don't give up if you refuse to get out of the car. So get out of the car. Be polite. Obey them. The one dude for example already had a criminal history, he had a probation officer. I mean - really? So he knew already how to deal with the police. So why was he resisting. If a cop says get out, you get out. Then if you want, you sue them. That's how to improve police behaviour. Sue them. But until that time, you obey the police. Resisting police even if you're innocent is a crime. This is not a movie. Stop resisting, and afterwards sue.

I don't trust anyone that is legally allowed to lie to me while also in a position of authority like they are. I can accept one or the other, but not both. Regular person? Sure, they are literally allowed to lie except as it concerns specific criminal/illegal activity(fraud and the like). The guys working the desk in city hall? They have authority over handling important things, but they can't lie to me about anything(legally). Cops? They can lie and arrest you. I literally cannot trust them when they are explicitly allowed and even encouraged to lie to me and I've observed first hand they basically do it casually because its a learned habit. You can never tell if they just want help from you as a witness or if they are trying to pin something on you. The well is thoroughly poisoned by this rule.

@@Jujubee87 yeah it's disgusting how much of these things not only happen, but the cops don't get any repercussions or get a slap on the wrist at best, it's such a corrupt system. It's really terrifying how you can have just a normal day and 1 cop can destroy your whole life within minutes. Then they give bogus charges like resisting arrest even tho it's clear that's not the case, especially after confirming the victim is innocent.
So much power abusement, but if someone barely touches a cop even if not intentional, they add assault charges. I don't know what's the point of the cameras when even a clear evidence of the whole situation is recorded and presented, still it doesn't do anything in most cases.

a person. In this case he was accused of a Probation type charge plus whatever else, both prison things & the deal
I hate is that this man did nothing to cause any of this to happen ! Them being wrong should have ended all of this
but they simply added to him. They have immunity & let the Courts sort things out. When they lie on any Report
then they commit perjury punishable by up to 7 yrs in prison & a fine. And they violate their Oath to Constitution
as well. When the DA lets a lie go & doesn't charge the Cop, they also fail their Oath to the Constitution. We've

Most my friends left the department in the last 2-3 years because of the causes that cops were being treated bad and the public turned against them so they left saying they wouldn't be putting there life on the line for people that hated them and i dont blame them because people were treating them bad for no reason i saw it first had and 1 of the cops i kinda new was shot in the head at a stop light just for being a cop. But these cops piss me tf off acting this way and makes it really hard to defend them because not all cops are bad and we need them to keep some kinda law & order. The thing that is even more said is criminals are learning the games and tactics of the people like law enforcement auditors and its catching cops off guard and it can get them killed very quickly its so f'ed up i would never want to be a cop

basically, you call cops on someone and the cops should know what the handling is by the situation. even if you misjudged the whole thing. no-one's gonna detain you for that. I don't think so actually, as much as I've come to distrust corrupt cops. I smell weed any time someone gets in my car who has previously smoked in a closed environment, even if they're not carrying it.
So it's very possible to smell it without someone possessing it. That said, it's a major issue that there's no way to determine if they actually smell it so some cops can indeed just lie.
Way back when I was about 19 I looked kind of like a stoner and was with a friend who did too. A cop claimed his truck smelled like weed and I basically completely lost it, 0 to 100, cooperative to belligerent, screaming at the cop, even getting his face and asking him to say it again with eye contact so I can see what a bold faced liar looks like. We almost honestly fought and he probably would have put hands on me if he didn't know I was absolutely right. Then when he said everything was cool he tried to leave, still taking my friend's box cutter he illegally seized which he had a right to carry for work. I went after the cop and made him give that back too while berating him haha. Needlessly to say cops didn't like me for years and I had a target on my back due to run ins like this.
So why did I flip so hard? The friend was the most straight edge guy I knew, literally, actively disliked stoners, refused to ever drink because alcoholism was in his family, and didn't even smoke cigarettes. The idea that his truck smelled like weed was a flat out lie 100%.
When the cop tried to say THAT guy's truck had a major smell of marijuana I knew we were dealing with a completely corrupt cop straight up and down and I lost all fear to act out.
Still, as nice as it would have been for that guy to take a charge, it wouldn't be fair for it to happen to cops just doing their job who smell weed that was previously smoked on people. They're not lying in that case and have every reason to think you have it.
A better question might be why weed is so illegal in the first place while alcohol, a much more dangerous drug, is perfectly legal.

However all I did was have a sign up that he didn't like that was totally protected by Freedom of Speech. Even worse, she had no reason to think it was a crime because she accused me of exactly the same thing 3 years before and the charges were dropped, but she still arrested me with no investigation of what I had to say at all. I could have reminded her that she charged me before and it wasn't a crime.
