    This video was made to remember all these beautiful transitions exit out of the jumps! Honestly with or without the transitions as part of the PCS, we don't really see these beautiful jumps landed being rewarded consistently. Just wanna edit a video to show that we remember all these special jumps landed forever!!

      While Transitions are no longer a standalone Program Component, entries and exits to elements will still be rewarded under Composition. For example one of the Composition criteria is Connections Between and Within the Elements. Judges will be looking for continuity of movement throughout the program and units of movement throughout the composition. A unit of movement = movements + element + movements. Creative, difficult or unexpected entries will be rewarded in the connection between and within elements criteria. Where units of movement and choreography match the musical phrasing, this will be rewarded in the Choreography Reflecting Musical Phrase and Form criteria. Creative and multidimensional movements throughout the program can be rewarded in the Multidimensional Movements and Use of Space. Where a skater performs a program that has movements threaded throughout that create a coherent and meaningful composition (ie clear mood, theme or concept based on the music) this will be rewarded in the Unity criteria. Maybe I am telling you what you already know but I hope my thoughts are helpful. There is a lot less overlap between the criteria now but to me nothing important has been lost. If anything, better judging of Composition and Presentation as well as Skating Skills (which now includes quality of movements executed throughout the program) should result from the move to 3 PCSs and lead to better and fairer judging of skaters. My hope is that judges will feel more empowered to reward skaters who demonstrate superior composition and presentation skills regardless of the level or difficulty of the technical elements they execute and/or their skating skills. So if you perform a Quad it doesn’t mean your skating skills are at least 7 - they could be average (5s) or fair (4s) or above average (6s). Judges should be able to give positive GOEs for well executed 3As and Quads and not be afraid to give PCS scores in the 4s, 5s or 6s if that is the level a skater demonstrates on the day… and of course to go lower or higher when that is merited by what the skater does on the day. I believe the move to a split panel where judges only focus on judging GOEs or PCSs will be another helpful change. This was rejected at the recent ISU Congress but it is going to be trialed at some ISU competitions in the coming seasons and will be presented as a motion to be voted on at the next ISU Congress. Without wanting to make excuses for poor judging, it is very difficult to focus on all of the detail of technical elements and all the detail of program components at the same time. There is only so much a person can focus on and their brain can process at one time. There were 27 criteria in the 5 PCS system that judges were supposed to evaluate as well as evaluating technical elements. The move to 3 PCSs brings a reduction to 13/14 criteria (Pairs, Ice Dance and Synchro include Unison) which is more realistic and a move to split panels where a judge only has to focus on identifying and assessing the 13/14 PCS criteria will be another helpful step towards getting better and fairer judging of our beautiful sport of figure skating

      @@aalleennoo if truly that is the way it goes then it will be better judging. Unless of course judges are biased towards some skaters, we know that happens. I think people just want to be sure that the most talented in all areas are scored the way they should be.

    • @aalleennoo
      @aalleennoo 2 роки тому +2

      @@annestep4868 that is what I hope will happen too Ann. Let’s hope judging will improve. The ISU now addresses bias explicitly in all judge training. You can see it on the ISU e-learning platform resources. We all bring biases to every situation including judges when they are judging. The ISU wants judges to be aware of the different biases that can impact on their judging and to consciously avoid those biases impacting on the scores skaters receive. It’s not just biases for or against certain skaters, it’s also availability bias, confirmation bias, availability heuristic, halo effect, anchoring and affinity bias. We all want fair judging with score that reflect talent, skill and what skaters demonstrate on the day

    Trust Hanyu to always make the most difficult transition steps regardless how the ISU downplays them in the scoring. That’s what makes his program so much more fluid and graceful than the others. Jumps are nice, but it’s what connects the jumps that makes the program memorable, and Hanyu is definitely the GOAT in that!

    that's right.
    Yuzuru does not pre-rotate.
    So takeoff and landing are the same speed.
    Jump naturally blends into the music as one of the choreography.
    But in the ISU. 🤬
    This perfectly clean jump It is dropped to the same rating as many others (pre-rotation & poor connection & isolation).
    We can enjoy yuzu's acting, 🥰🙏
    but we have to endure humiliation.

If you take out the artestry and the special and hard jumps out of the judgement, you take away the interest and the soul of the finger skating.

    Shoma is is about 155 cm "tall". He is very very small. Although it doesnt look good , Its actually good for him, bc if you have "deep knees" , you can land jumps better. The smaller you are hence the deeper the knees , the better you can save jumps.
    Yuzuru Hanyu is an exception, He is slender and tall for an asian, but he can save jumps nobody else Could, bc he is so talented and has insanely powerful mental strength .
    There are good Skaters , great skaters and there is Yuzuru Hanyu.The whole package: handsome, cute , talented, huge fucking load of presence on the ice. Like they always said, He is treated like a King for a reason! I hope ISU behaves and won't downball him that hard with the New scoring system.
    Its ice jumping with music now, no transition marks, etc., the PCS Scores arent almost there anymore. Its a quad and Quint jumping Contest that will begin soon. Hope Hanyu just doesnt care and is doing it for fun, bc ISU has a new Fav in its mind , now no Chen there, Hanyu they don't like so Its obvious who will make the best "Scores " from now in for the next yrs....

You can't like everything and this idea we are supposed to pretend to like things we don't like is preferring dishonesty to truth and some people do prefer the dishonesty but we don't all have to.

    I can understand the concerns about taking out transitions from the component sheet, but in reality skaters used to get high scores without actual transitions! When watching older skating videos skaters used to stay on two feet forever to prepare for a jump especially 3A and Quads so this is only recently and especially a Yuzu thing so lets hope he inspired at least some upcoming skaters to put some pride in their jumps and general skating.

    • @FigureSkatingFan
      @FigureSkatingFan  2 роки тому +7

      I kinda agree with you to some extent. Yeah when watching the old skating footage 20-30 years ago, there's a lot of two foot skating pre / post the jumps. Skaters like Hanyu changed all that! But honestly not sure whether in the future it would go back to the "old era" of two foot without transition with new rules 😫

    • @celsdd6906
      @celsdd6906 2 роки тому +1

      It takes integrity to keep doing what one thinks it’s good for the sport regardless of the rules. For now, I can only see Yuzu sticking to it. Do you think younger generations will still work on difficult transitions when they’re not rewarded? Take the latest ogm, he used to show SS in his junior years but then he went full jumps because they’re what ISU wanted. He’s part of the degrading of the beauty of FS.
