    Beyond excited to say this project is now out and live! Huge thanks to the UVI Team for all the help, my patrons for the awesome demo tracks, and all of you for making this possible!
    ALSO: this whole video score (and the demo track you hear at 5:47) was done with Noctua!

      It'd be dope if I didn't have to install yet ANOTHER mothership launcher to manage it and try to get me to buy their other plugins. Awesome plugin, just sad it's being used to funnel people into the UVI pipeline to buy their other software via the required launcher.

    I’m not keen on it. Now before you all jump to conclusions and just be rude, hear me out. I think it’s a generational thing. I come from a time when we wanted super clean audio. This plug in has lots of distortion and random frequencies in the sample data. Clearly it’s for effect. Ie not shoddy work, but part of the intended sound design. No one wants something tame, so I get why it’s been done. But it’s not to my personal liking. I have been creating sounds for 40 years both professionally and for my own music. I’ve owned over 70 yes, 70 plus synths and samplers. I’ve even built a synth and a basic sampler myself ! So it’s not something new to me. I’m determined to give it another go, to try to see it fit will grow on me. I try to keep an open mind. I do think the plug-in is one hell of an achievement. The fact it is free is incredibly generous, given the time and effort put in.

    I always leave your videos with a hint of uncertainty yet a tinge of clarity with a trace of an outline undertoned by sarcasm, leaving a pang of regret but still a breath of fresh air, cast with doubt by a taste of booze in search of a speck of gold, still a glimmer of hope, and a glimpse of a future that seems bright should suffice, but a shade of suspicion leaves a smidgen of remorse, yet still an inkling of determination, coupled with a taste of satisfaction brings a sigh of relief, only a touch of melancholy in the sign of the times remains yet gives way in the hunt on this journey of a lifetime, and I never leave your videos disappointed and always wiser for the watching, thank you for all you do, your work will live on in the creative minds and common unity of us all!

    Back when I was a young man 18-20 I studied drums and percussion at a music conservatory. This was probably before most of your parents were even born. I spent my nights and weekends as a rock drummer, but in my alone time I made tapes of all forms of noise. Traffic, waterfalls, machinery, children’s voices, sirens, just about everything. I would chop the tapes and reassemble them and overdub piano, guitar, strings, whatever. I had Stockhausen and Xenakis as my electronic music mentors. Now old enough to be Cameron’s grandfather, he is my guiding star and I look forward to each video, each new music release. Bravo!

    I said it on the UVI vid, but I'll say it again here, I've messed around with paid libraries that are based on the same cinematic principles. Not much stops me in my tracks, but this video did. I listened, I watched and then I sat and thought a while. Sometimes this is the most important part of life - not clicking next, switching on another thing and diving into the next project bouncing and itching to make, do whatever. Just as in music silence and space can be important, pausing and reflection can be revitalising. So thank you for this gift of the moment, and a new 'toy' too. Wow, 2 for the price of 8 minutes and 25 seconds, and 5 or 10 minutes of pause. Have a great festive break and may the pause be with you (sorry I couldn't resist adding that).

    You are by far the most influential synth developer that has continued to inspire my seemingly endless efforts to create all sorts of compelling content. I've managed to get some plays, on various playlists in Spotify and SoundCloud, but it can be discouraging at times. There are moments of depression, asking myself why am I even doing this, but then, out of the blue, someone reaches out with some positive support, so I keep going. I've appreciated your "human interest" personal stories, as well as the synth tech content you produce . . . and many thanks for Noctua. I've been poking around with UVI for awhile, this will reinspire my interest in UVI once again.

    • @VenusTheory
      @VenusTheory  5 місяців тому +7

      Long story short:
      - Tune the sample as close as I can to a defined pitch
      - Load in a suitable waveform (triangle and saw seemed to work best)
      - RM/FM using the sample that has been tuned either 1:1 or at some other ratio
      - 30% of the time results in usable sound you can then multisample, 70% hot static-y pile of ass.
      - ???
      - Profit

Now, I am working with my longtime partner Victor Pross-he's Canada's most notorious caricature painter-on a graphic novel-to-animated video project. One little question, Since I saw a Tascam Recorder (Portacapture X8 I guess?) in this video, I wanted to know if you've had any issues editing audio due to the ultrasonic hum that's ben mentioned in a lot of comments. Or if it's something that Tascam has already resolved. I wanted to buy one of these little recorders, but that ultrasonic noise is a dealbreaker for me. Great channel btw!

    As a tech biz lifer, for better and for worse, one thing I also try to remember about things like this is that despite what the Silicon Valley tech bro VC slime have made of the staggering advance of technology, it started as nerds sharing stuff with each other. We use the fruits of that often hundreds of times per day if you do what I do. How many times have you typed `rsync` into a terminal and hit Enter? Well, lest we forget, someone one day said, 'God damnit, I need a full featured way to sync two folders up and all of the existing tools suck balls. I'm going to write my own.' We don't think of rsync as art, because it's not art, but the moments of curiosity/ambition/revelation/execution are very, very similar. As a musician and an engineer I can say that with confidence. So, while I don't want to put words in your mouth, maybe this was part of your rsync. It's a tool you wanted that didn't exist, and now it's out for others to use.
    I love it that UVI got involved as well. Makes me like them even more as a company. Looking forward to playing around with this. And great work as always.

  • @scottk3292
    @scottk3292 5 місяців тому

    One question for you - is it really necessary for pitch changes across the keys? What about timbre changes, maybe more similar to a percussion patch? You could have multiple interesting sounds which "morph" into each other as you traverse the keyboard, possibly using convolves instead of fades as the "morphing" routine. I could imagine the sound of someone screaming blending into tires screeching - that kind of thing.
    It's pretty amazing that you put a good bit of effort over a year into all this, then give it away. I greatly hope that all other contracts/sales are going well to support you in this kind of adventure.

    • @wiegraf9009
      @wiegraf9009 5 місяців тому

      It's necessary in the sense that it isn't just a sample library, it's an instrument that can be played predictably. In terms of "making cool sounds" or even blending them it's definitely not necessary though.

    • @scottk3292
      @scottk3292 5 місяців тому

      @@wiegraf9009 Well, if you're wanting a sound to be part of the melodic and chord structure part of a piece, then yes, of course you need predictable tonal control. However, accent sounds don't necessarily need to fit into the key of the piece. I'll point out the stabs and effects used by Jean Michel Jarre, particularly on Equinoze Infinity. I'm not saying that those should be the majority of sounds in a collection, but if I were to load a patch named "screeching tires" I wouldn't expect it to be arranged into scales.
      All that said, I'm really considering picking up Avenger 2.0 just for its resynthesis engine. I've had Harmor for a while, and I love spectral analysis and resynthesis. Using that, you could turn pretty much any sound into a series of notes across the keyboard.
