    Reasons for the high temperature of the ignition coil in a Golf 3 car

  • @Eurospec73

    You check for resistance but you don't say what number is good and what numbers are bad.. on the first test that you did. I copied the same thing and I got 7.57 on the ohm setting so is that good or bad? My reading was a lot higher yours is roughly 3.50 on the 1st test.

      @@drivewaydiyer6504 I'm having a crank no start / no -spark issue, and it's not a bad CPS sensor . That's why I was testing this ignition coil module.
      So can you please answer this question what numbers are a good ohm reading and what numbers would be a bad ohm reading based on the video you made? I need confirmation here so that I can decide if my coil module is good or not.

      It sounds like you’ve got high resistance, do you have spark? A simple test light spark test would solve that. That is a good coil I’m testing, so you can take from it, they are good readings. If it’s not cranking, check fuel delivery, spark, compression.

    • @Eurospec73
      @Eurospec73 Рік тому

      I already answered you above saying that I have no spark. That's part of the main reason I'm doing this. I used a test light and it lights up on the 2 screws on the side. I also did a fuel pressure test to I don't hear the fuel pump clicking on. So that's another issue.

      @@drivewaydiyer6504 Okay so here's a quick update man, on the first test that you did my reading on my first pin came out good at 7.5k I know that's a bit High but when I went to test the second and third pin the reading never changed it just stayed at 1. So would that mean my coil module is bad? I think I might have a bad ignition coil module for that reason.
      But on your module you ended up getting a reading on your second and third pin which were both good I got nothing only 7.5K on the 1st pin.

    Could a faulty coil cause a vw golf 3 gti to start and die?

    • @drivewaydiyer6504
      @drivewaydiyer6504  Рік тому

      Possibly, but I’d check for vacuum leaks and a possible failed coolant temp sensor.

    Hello, I made the same measurement as you did at the beginning of the video. I measured the first pin as 3.9k, the second pin as 4.9k, and the third pin as 9.4k. Do you think the ignition coil is bad? Are the values normal?

      Is there spark coming from the coil. Check wiring into the coil. Check HT leads and distributor aswell. You maybe losing spark at the rotor.

    I have a seat cordoba 1.6 petrol i checked the ignition coil the same way the first port gave me 7.46 the other pins gave me 3.46 my car starts but when it comes to 30 rpm it chokes any advice ?

    • @drivewaydiyer6504

      Sounds like the resistance is high on the second port, which is why it’s struggling and probably overheating. Would be worth changing it.

    I am currently having problems with my car, the 1st pin has a value of 3.26, the 2nd has 8.58 and the third 7.22. The resistance between the 1st pin and the top link is 0 but that of the 3rd pin is 3.96. My car has no power and cuts acceleration. Can anybody help me?

      Sounds like quite high resistance on those pins. Are you getting spark on all cylinders?

    • @joaonanques4489
      @joaonanques4489 2 роки тому

      @@drivewaydiyer6504 Yes I have spark in all the cylinders, but the car vibrates a lot at idle. The issue is that when accelerating to start the car cuts acceleration and chokes which makes you not even able to drive, because the engine almost dies.

      The fact you’re getting spark doesn’t discount a problem with the coil, but I’m wondering if you’ve got an air leak or a fuel issue. Have you got an eml light on or any codes?

    • @drivewaydiyer6504

      You could do with finding the resistance specs and get yourself a dvom. Set to 20kohms and connect the pins to the ht holes and see what readings you get. Check for volt leaks and areas that look like they’ve been affected. Often coils fail when they warm up.

      @@drivewaydiyer6504 Yeah, there is. Few days ago i was driving and everything was fine. Suddenly the car lost pretty much all power and i could not accelerate. I opened the hood and could hear the misfires from the ignition distributor(it sounded like the spark was jumping somwhere where it wasn’t supposed to). Giving it gas stalled the motor but it could start up. I got towed home and the next day the car started for just long enough so i could drive it into the garage. Hasn’t started since.

      Sounds like the coil has gone , have you got a spark tester. Test for spark and chase it back to the coil. You can use a testlight if you’ve got one. Connect it to ground and see if there is spark from the coil.

    Hello, Are the resistance values in ohm and not in Kiloohm? On my coil between the 3 pins and the HT terminal I have 3 infinite values! No more ignition and the coil is split. I am waiting for a new used reel that I could test thanks to your video. Big thanks !
