  • Welcome back to our sixth series! For Episode 7 we will be sharing our last few days in Christchurch before we move on to something very exciting!
Our first day of the New Zealand South Island Road Trip was spent exploring Governors Bay and Diamond Harbour. We drove around the bay stopping off to see lots of beautiful points of the harbour. It sits on the South Pacific Ocean with Quail Island right in the middle. We have previously travelled around this area covering Lyttleton and stopping at a campsite in Governors Bay. This time we headed up a dirt track towards Godley Head and towards the open ocean.
On day two of the Road Trip we headed back out onto Banks Peninsula towards Pigeon Bay and Akaroa. Unfortunately we had a small travel fail and could not get to Pigeon Bay as we needed four wheel drive due to the roads and tracks. We did however get to see the bay from the top of the mountain and still got a stunning view. Then we headed down to Akaroa Harbour for a boat trip with Black Cat Cruises. Some tours have been able to see whales, orcas, seals, penguins and the very rare Hectors dolphins. Whilst the day started out with blue skies and sunshine, the summer vibes did not last. We did however really enjoy the boat tour. We were lucky enough to see lots of seals, some of which were super active. We definitely recommend this experience and will be going again.
For our third day travelling Christchurch we headed out to Lake Coleridge. The lake is tucked away in the New Zealand mountains in Craigieburn Forest Park. We drove there from Christchurch and we did struggle to find a point with lake access. The point that we found was located here:
    -43.291395, 171.525906
You can copy and paste this into maps for the location. It was definitely worth it as the drive through the mountains and through the small towns was beautiful. Sometimes the best travel adventures are spontaneous.
Our last day was spent in New Brighton at the Hot Pools or He Puna Taimoana as it's known in Māori. This was a two hour session and felt like a spa day out. It is on the edge of New Brighton Beach with a view of the South Pacific Ocean and New Brighton Pier. There were multiple different pools to choose from as well as steam room, sauna and cold plunge pool. George gave the plunge pool a go whilst Becki stood to the side laughing. This was super peaceful and relaxing. We really enjoyed the day even with the weather being slightly dull.
