Thank you. I bought a 1948 8N just a few months ago. It is in fairly good working order. I actually don't know much about these tractors and your videos are a big help.

Your tractor starts nice on a cold day for an updraft Carburetor. The Brake shoes are new, old ones would be riveted, these are glued. When you replace the seal, there is an inner axle and outer seal along with a gasket on the brake /backing plate. so you will need three seals per side. Also when you have brake shoes off the tractor, take your propane touch and LIGHTLY burn the oil/grease that has saturated the shoes, watch the heat as these are glued shoes. That big nut on the hub is installed to 400 plus foot pounds. loosen and tighten the nut before removing the wheels.

You now I think that you have one of the very early 8N Fords I don’t know if you are aware but 9 N stands for 1939 and 2 N stands for 1942 and 8 N stands for 1948 so your tractor doesn’t have the lever under the seat for taking it from position control to draft control and the inspection plate with the dipstick for the TDH is aluminum and like wise on the pto control inspection plate!
Henry Ford did not waste any parts when they changed production from the 2N to the 8N so any parts left over from the 2N would be used on the 8N until they were used up is the story I heard I can’t remember where maybe it was from The Claremont Classic Garage which I would recommend you check out he has a really good video on how to correctly replace all the rear axle seals on a early 8N also I can tell you for sure someone has worked on the brakes because the early 8N’s came with 4 screws on the brake drum and if I am not mistaken yours had 2 .
I would make sure you buy a shifter boot or if it rains you will get a lot of water in the TDH.
And the leveller box on the 3PTH might need some penetrating oil or heat to get it loose enough to adjust it while sitting on the tractor .
I am curious if you have taken off the oil filler cap while it’s running just to see if there’s any blow by ?
    Sure runs like Champ!😀🇨🇦

It might be a long time till that grease leak gives any trouble again.

I have a few TO-30 Ferguson tractors & had brake issues w/most of them, Ford & Ferguson were partners for a while so tractors were very much the same except motors. The repair for brakes was exactly as one of your commenters Brian Ferguson described, not a real easy fix, if your going to operate a tractor you need brakes, you will be glad you repaired your brakes.

PS examin your axel shaft carefully for wear if there is much wear your new seals wont seal & drip oil on pads & you wont have brakes.

All you did was talked yourself out of doing and showing how it was done. Jeez!

You could use a tractor with a cab on it
