Not an official Nightwish song. Tuomas and Marko wrote it for the 2007 Finnish film, Lieksa (The Matriarch). Jukka joined them on drums for the recording. Floor's backing vocals and Troy's guitar with EBOW are additions to the song. An EBOW ( electronic bow) is a battery powered device that vibrates the guitar strings ,making it sound similar to playing with a violin bow. Emppu is the lead guitarist, an original and current member. He was offstage taking a break during this song. To put Marko's opening comments in context, this was in London, not long after the Paris Nightclub bombings.
Emppu! Yes! That's who I was thinking of. And wow, I never even heard of a guitar with EBOW before. 🤔 That's very interesting and I'll have to look into that more. Thanks for sharing the info. ☺️
The song has nothing to do with lipstick - its meaning is rather that you should kiss your loved ones as long as their lips are still red from the blood circulation (they still alive).
Emppu was taking his break for this song. Troy plays about a dozen instruments, so for this song the eBow was the style that fit, so it was Troy on guitar. Never be surprised to see Troy pick up any instrument ... he is just a virtuoso on anything that makes music. You really ought try listening to AURI. It's a side project with Tuomas, Troy and Tuomas' wife, Johanna Kurkela - an amazing Finnish singer. Kai frequently plays percussion for them, but in interviews, all three say they plan on keeping AURI going for the rest of their lives. It's the soft side of their music, easy to relax and go to sleep to, and all three compose for it, so it's truly magical. Johanna also sings in a musical project called Eye Of Melian - music based on Tolkien and fantasy. Truly beautiful and orchestral, soft and magical also. Nice reaction to a beautiful song.
NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. Glad you loved this song. Empuu was taking a break during this. I LOVE Tran Siberian Orchestra! Made me fall in love with symphonic Metal. So imagine my insane excitement when I discovered NightWish. ❤🤘
Hi Nikki, greetings from UK The sound from the Ebow is just magical, isn't it? Marko is one of the few people in the world who can say that Floor Jansen is his backing singer! 🤣 I love the way that she keeps her voice just underneath his, that takes some control I should think
There are some fantastic lead singers who also have the great gift of humility, i.e. to take a step back and let others shine as a vocalist. They truly are the best backing vocalists one may wish for. Thinking of e.g. Anneke van Giersbergen, Marcela Bovio and of course Floor here, whose vocal blending with Marko oftentimes produced one single voice that will always remain unmatched in NW history. Sometimes she's even proved capable of channeling Marko as if he's still there, like in her delivery of "Planet Hell" at ... [drawing a blank here..]. Was it Hellfest or Deichbrand? Anyhew, great & delicate performance all 'round. Troy's EBow is just magnificent, adding a whole other dimension (as it did in the final part of their BA2018 performance of "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean"). Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
I wish to have this song played at my funeral....the title says it all....don't ever forget to show your love to your loved ones...wife and family....😶
This technically wasn’t really a Nightwish song to begin with. It was written by Tuomas with Marko, for a Finnish film, Lieska! (The Matriarch). They did employ Jukka to play drums on it. There is a video for it you may want to check out. Troy, Emppu, and Anette were not part of the song, but Tuomas and Marko eventually decided to treat it as a Nightwish song. Personally, I like this version with Troy playing e-bow and Floor singing backing vocals. Emppu got to take a break for this one, Yeah…. Peeking inside Tuomas’s mind would be quite something. Floor was not pregnant at this time.
@@nikkireviews It is an interesting video. It uses clips from the Finnish movie interspersed with some shots of the band. In all honesty I am not a big fan of the video because IMO the clips from the movie don't fit the lyrics or at lest my take on them. You have this sweet song with hauntingly beautiful lyrics about innocent young love and the video is showing a love triangle that ends in violence.
Great song ! Marco is brilliant & we miss him performing with Nightwish ! I agree You Should of had Red Lipstick on 💋 I think you would look 🔥 With red Lipstick 💋💋💋 Respect from Steve in Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🏄♂️🍹
That's a beautiful song and you are right most of the time I'm waiting for floor to start singing and again thanks for your reaction greetings from Chicago
Hi Nikki, everything that I was going to type has already been said. What I can add, is that in the Wembley show, this song was swapped-in for 'The Islander' which (again) heavily features Marko with Floor on backing vocals and is performed at Tampere. I think in any concert, our ears need a break from the faster and heavier songs, and this is a perfect example. See ya K x
3:23 Oh Nikki, you know Floor is always lurking closeby,if shes not having the lead vocals. Patience, young lady 3:43 Told you! Floor just has on some great camo for this dark Wembley stage 4:08 I love Troys guitar play on this song!So dreamy and beautiful. Yes,Emppu is the much smaller lead guitarist, dont worry he was at this concert too,he just let Troy shine on this song. He is in pretty much every other Wembley performance
A little slow down for the show. Troy plays many instruments. Emppu got to take a little beer break. This was written for a Finnish movie soundtrack called "Lieksa". The Matriarch. TSO is a great band with some amazing guitarists.
Troy is a multi-instrumentalist and a vocalist. It seems like it would be easier to say what instruments he does NOT play, than to mention everything that he does play. And being a singer...he is MADE of music just as much as Composer Tuomas is, or as much as Floor is, or Marko... World-Class band members all the way around, no weak links, all coming together to make a World-Stomping LIVE band. :)
Great reaction! Finally a slow ballad for you! One of my favorite songs with Marko singing lead. A beautiful ode to innocent young love. This really shows the vulnerable and emotional side to Marko's voice. I love how Floor steps back and give the stage to Marko and really lets him shine here. A great sign of the respect all of the members have for each other and how they support each other. For another really sweet Marko moment here he is singing Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan as a lullaby for Jukka Nevalainen's infant daughter. ua-cam.com/video/XpOrknB-QR8/v-deo.html.
If you want to see Troy play guitar like guitar, not a string emulation with E-Bow, check How's The Heart acoustic session at Planet Rock. It's just Floor, Troy and his guitar. And it's gorgeous.
every time I hear a Marko-led song I think... He's one of the few people in the world that can claim, "Floor F'ing Jansen is MY backup singer!" lol :). The Islander live at Tampere is another one that is pretty much all Marko you might enjoy... once Wembley is over...
Love wembley, love any live Nightwish, it's where they shine best, afterall. However, Can't wait for you to delve into later stuf from "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" and "Human Nature". There are some lyric vids worth your time, Shoemaker and Music being 2 faves of mine. I suggest doing the Shoemaker vid then recting to a live version after. Floorgasms galore.
So there's already a lot of comments so they've already answered your question probably but that was Troy, he plays acoustic guitar with an "voice-to-text literally did not even know what I was saying. So here you guys pick up on everything that just happened there. That's great. Troy admit this part was hard because it's not the way you would traditionally play an ebow.
😂 I love voice to text but for some things yeah, it just doesn't have a clue! 🤭 I never heard of the EBOW guitar before, very cool concept for an instrument!

And the guitar was a mandolin
@@patchouli2274 You're thinking of his Irish Bouzouki, which is a relative of the Mandola. Here , he is playing a PRS guitar with EBOW.
@@nikkireviews You will hear quite a bit of the EBOW when you get to 'The Greatest Show On Earth' in this concert.

Troy was showcasing his e-bow guitar work. Empuu sat this one out.
Troy playing his PRS guitar with the E-bow!
Tuomas genius
There is more songs were Marko is the lead singer. The islander at Tampere and and the Pink Floyd cover(tribute) at the end of an era concert.
Also Endlessness from Human Nature. I go back forth between that song and this one as my favorite Marko led songs.
this song makes you stepback and look at your life and your loved ones, and realize your love for them.... and you should show that
Very deep 💛
This has become one of my favorites. Marko had a heckuva backing singer here!
He really did! 😁

Beautiful Rock Ballad
Troy plays a type of guitar in a number of Nightwish songs, sometimes with an e-bow.
Troy is a multi-instrumentalist. He basically plays everything.
Here he uses an ebow. This is used to simulate string instruments on the guitar.
Troy, a man of many talents. This is a great song. Not to mention his vocals.
